      Hi! That’s so lovely to read, thank you for taking the time to comment 😊 I’ve now filmed an ‘ultimate guide’ to cleaning vintage jewellery that covers lots of different types of jewellery, that may be useful: Ultimate Vintage Jewellery Cleaning Guide: Costume, Sterling Silver, Brass, Copper & Alpaca Jewelry

    Definitely would be interested in the ultimate cleaning guide. I was horrified when I looked at some of my butterflies through a loup - the gunk is revolting, I found soaking them overnight in rubbing alcohol helped loosen and then used a toothpick worked the best. I vowed never to buy butterfly backs ever again though! I have a rhinestone necklace set in 925 silver I need to clean but found a few bits online saying categorically not to soak in water as it gets behind the stones and discolours the mirror backing. I have found heavily tarnished stuff comes up a treat using the tin foil/ bicarb/ hot water method but I bet most people would think that too harsh and a big no no - I looked at the pieces through a loup and couldn't see any particular damage after doing so... it was worth the risk as it had been abandoned for a couple of decades & would've had to be tossed anyway, one set of art nouveau style earrings with onyx in - I decided to keep myself!

      Thanks for sharing your cleaning experience too! I was quite embarrassed about the state of those backs 🙈 glad I’m not the only one! Your rhinestone set sounds lovely. I’ll be sharing a special cloth I use in the guide video, maybe that will work for that set?!

      excellent, thank you :-) will look forward to hearing about the cloth in your upcoming video. It's a Jay Flex piece with champagne coloured rhinestones with topaz accents, I love it! @@jewelrescue

    Hi Cat, I like the way it brightened the stones on the lizard. 🦎The final result is impressive. Thanks for sharing! 🤗 🩷✌️

    I don't think that ultrasonic works well on silver tarnish. My experience is that it works best on the typical slightly gunky non-precious metal costume jewelry. And always rinse in clear water after the ultrasonic.

      Ooh thanks for the tip! I did find the tarnish really easy to remove after a cycle in the machine so that was a bonus. Thanks for watching 🥰

    This is very interesting. Thank you very much! Would love to see more videos on cleaning.
    I'd really like to get one for myself but would be careful to put anything with foil back rhinestones in there because of the water.
    That gold piece came out very nicely! Also, great that it helped remove the silver tarnish!

      Yes you’d have to keep foil backed away from it. This was a good experiment, I’m looking forward to trying more in it!

    I would touch that ring up with a silver pen, it would look like new.

    Ultrasonic cleaners work on Gold not silver!

    • @jewelrescue
      @jewelrescue  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This one doesn’t specify particular metals, it says it’s a versatile cleaner for jewellery, watches, glasses, dentures and coins! It didn’t remove the silver tarnish of course but it did make it very easy to wipe off with a silver cloth 💕

    Just been to Aldi, and they had jewellry ultrasonic cleaners for sale. I thought of you as reminded me of this video. No idea if it's any good.

    Gotta love an ultrasonic cleaner! Satisfying to see the jewellery come out gleeming. I'm surprised that you can put them in loose. The ones we use at work have a basket to put the instruments in.

    • @jewelrescue
      @jewelrescue  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes I’ve seen them before with baskets but there was something quite satisfying about using the tweezers 😂😂 do you have to put a special liquid in or do you sterilise separately? I think I’ll still need to sterilise earring hooks after a clean and dry.

    • @TheStormChasingVeterinaryNurse
      @TheStormChasingVeterinaryNurse 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jewelrescue we add an enzymatic cleaner to the water. If really soiled, we soak the instruments in this first, and scrub them, before putting in the ultrasonic cleaner. Rinse, then soak in a cold sterilising solution, rinse, then bag up and autoclave.
