30 years ago Montana had about the lowest Utility rates in the Nation and a Power Company with no debt. The GOP won the majority on the PSC, they “deregulated” to allow the power to be bought and sold on the open market. The PC took on a ton of debt to enter into the fiber optic business. Long story short, Montana Power went bankrupt and we now have the 4th highest rates in the nation. It only took Goldman Saks 4 years to do all of that.

Having personally paid those rates as a student in Arizona, none of this surprises me. Gas + electric are required to function in modern society, their provision should be a right and utilities must be publicly owned for the public freaking good! The hard part is, that big investors wont invest in utility markets where they can't make as much money. So when limiting potential ROI, less money will flow into the state, and as such, there will be less for other public works. BUT it will be temporary, and greed will eventually give-in. Rate payers save money for a time, but it requires indirect related costs. I think it's worth it, as someone who's lived in AZ, NV, and now CA.

The increase took effect on March 8 and will increase rates by about $10 to 12 per monthly bill. The commissioners also voted to approve a controversial amendment adding a monthly charge of $2.50 to $3.00 for residential customers with rooftop solar systems. The extra fee will allow users to plug into the grid. Except my bill for July August and September went up $200-400 dollars. Not the $10 to $12 dollars!! My July bill was $647.00!! It's PROFIT and the AMOUNT of profit as well. AND the list is extensive: For profit utilities, meaning electrical / gas etc., for profit WATER and SEWER UTILITIES, for profit healthcare, for profit insurance, for profit medicines, for profit communication services, for profit education, for profit basic housing, and it's all taxed, then we pay it with our already taxed money. I've been screaming about corporate greed, CEO salaries AND PAY OUTS when they get fired! They're making an average of $33,000 an hour, for a 40 hour week. While an employee making $30 an hour, is eligible for government subsidized assistance for food, housing, medical care. etc; because it's NOT A LIVING WAGE. Meanwhile every day people cannot buy a home, because they can't save for a down, because of the cost of living AND THE FACT that their RENT is NO DOUBT, almost 50% of their income. So adding insult to injury, the masses are in an ever widening division for BASIC QUALITY IF LIFE.
It used to be DAD could work a REGULAR JOB, raise a family while Mom stayed home and made the family unit a UNIT.....his salary bought food and clothes and a house and a car and a vacation to grandma's EVERY summer! Kids could work to go to school WITHOUT owing TENS of THOUSANDS upon graduation. Mom could take a job here and there for Christmas money or Dad could grab some overtime. THIS WORLD HAS GONE INSANE and it's ten times worse after COVID, which seemed to give every business a reason to take an interest-free and / or a forgiven loan, while recording record profits AND SALARIES FOR MANAGEMENT AND PROFITS FOR SHAREHOLDERS. I lived in Tucson from 1971 to 1979 and attended the UofAZ during that time. I lived with my parents. The house had both a swamp cooler with refrigeration (AC) back up for those 100++ days and nights. I am wondering if people still use the swamp cooler technology as it uses a lot less energy. Doesn't sound like it. Also, sounds like the home builders haven't built houses for the Arizona climate. With everyone is moving to Arizona, demand is significantly higher since the '70's, so it costs more to meet that demand. So, of course, Wall Street is there along with those who have positioned themselves along the money trail. Too bad that the State's leaders haven't demanded houses built for Arizona's climate, which include using both of the cooling systems to keep costs down. Won't be surprised if the Dems win hands down, but I doubt anything will change.

Take a look at your government and who are some of their big contributors to their campaigns surprisingly, well, maybe not so surprising your local government, it's selling you out.
For a campaign contribution. Why is it that we don't have options for electricity and our basic utilities. We shouldn't have only one option..

"sun goes down at night, wind doesn't always blow"
It shows you the cognitive dissonance or plain stupidity of those against such technology but have no idea why

Coping with the variability of solar and wind energy costs enormous amounts of money.

This was a good story. I’m making sure to be heard at the hearing. On the 28th of October. It is open for comments. I don’t anticipate a change in their ruling but hopefully the document for the future members of the commission on how there has been wrong decisions and to hopefully better manage their role in the future from the peoples feedback.

This is not a republican/democrat issue. California is democrat and has the 2nd highest rates in the country even with having solar. In fact they are making it more expensive to put up solar.

Same thing happened down under when our government decided to privatize the power grid. Why? Well they said it was to put some competition in the market & drive down prices, but sold it to a majority stake holder who quickly doubled the rates. Then exactly like you guys our government agreed to every price rise they asked for. Funny they say that you shouldn't hate the government but in our case they knew exactly what would happen even before selling the grid as we followed the New Zealand model which went the exact same way. In other words they knew we'd be screwed but did it anyway. Democracy these days is a broken dirty thing ruled by big business & it's cronies, the ones we call politician's.
