Fracking is done on shale which contains high levels of radio active radon and radon gas. It's in all the drill cuttings from drilling the well. That's besides the toxic chemicals and known carcinogens injected into the rock to help release the methane and other gasses. I worked for years on campaigns to ban fracking in our city of Buffalo, then our county of Erie, and ultimately a ban on fracking for our state of New York. Then I moved to Pennsylvania, frack central! We were surrounded by fracking and all the toxicity that comes with it. My gf worked for the PA-DEP in the "clean water department". This is so unbelievable. Why is it “overburdening” a company to have solid cleanup procedures and regulations in place BEFORE it begins operations and then all the way through to when it ends its operations?? Can anyone answer this? A company allowed to create toxic waste with no real plan to contain it safely ..
They can have a "plan," they can have (lobbied for) regulations, but standard practice is for a mining company to operate as a shell that goes bankrupt when everything that can be extracted has been and before vital cleanup is dealt with. Legislative bodies need teeth against weaseling practices, or there needs to be an environmental tax on production in industries with this kind of issue to fund government cleanup efforts, because more often than not companies do not contend with their waste. There's article "Millions of Leaky and Abandoned Oil and Gas Wells Are Threatening Lives and the Climate." I saw a vid on the challenge of capping abandoned natural gas mines, can't find it now.

they want quick profit that is all. private equity gives people like this a lot of money and buying power to grab land or chunks of industries to bleed them dry and move on. also for the last handful of presidents they have all been hands off when it comes to regulating. there has not been a push to get more people into college so that we have people to fill these jobs. add to that poor towns that are in desperate need for jobs and a political system where we are spending more time of voting season that actual work leads to this. these are the questions and issues to talk to our political candidates about. not lame stuff like traditional family anti lgbt stuff. we need to tax the rich more so we can pay people to hold companies accountable. but its also up to local governments to be more open about what is happening in their town and for us to ask these questions otherwise nothing will be done.
Take the profits. Leave the public clean up the mess. This is why subsidies and tax breaks are WRONG. Where is the radioactive material coming from? Is it in the tailings because it is present in the soil naturally?
In America, if you're a multi billion dollar company, you get welfare. You get to privatize your profit, and you get to subsidize your losses. If your a human. That makes you lazy, a loser, if you're a business that makes you a winner. We have succeeded in making America the perfect home for money. The left needs a new movement solely focused on economics and a foreign policy free of Israel.
The radioactive material is from forcing the fracking fluid (a mix of water and other chemicals [much of which is toxic]) through the ground. The fluid picks up radioactive isotopes buried deep under ground and brings them back up to the surface.
NC makes it illegal for private citizens to release the ingredients to fracking fluid. Just like body cam footage is not releasable without a judge releasing it.
So we know what side NC is on, the corporations and the rich 1% and everybody else can just deal with it....some country we have here, everyone and everything can be bought and paid for apparently and screw the consequences to others.

I doubt anyone will go to jail or even be held accountable. This is the result of Trump being president. Trump was only president for FOUR years. Trump PROMISED to do this during his election campaign and it's one of the FEW promises that he actually worked hard to make happen. This kind of stuff is the result of that. If Trump gets in again, agencies like the EPA will be GONE. Do you trust your OWN state to properly regulate this stuff. Or are you just interested in saving on your taxes. YOU decide!

I had no idea fracking produced radioactive material. The mainstream media doesn’t tell us much about fracking; purposely I’ll bet.
Because they dig really deep and extract oil but they flush in a lot of water and the water can carry a lot of sludge and radio active particles. Imagine diggong very deep , you will go into radioactive substances as you are digging into rocks , same as talcum is on the same rock as asbestos.
Fracking (and coal) creates more radioactive waste a month than all US Nuclear power plants created since inception (1.5 football fields)
Well if they told you, your leader Trump would claim fake news and you would believe him. LOL
Kansas never had earthquakes until Oklahoma started fracking. Fracking is just bad.
We really tried hard to get a ban on fracking in Pennsylvania but many of the locals are far too brainwashed by gas and oil propaganda and truly believe that it's a good thing, even though their drinking water is sometimes flammable.

The radioactive material is from forcing the fracking fluid (a mix of water and other chemicals [much of which is toxic]) through the ground. The fluid picks up radioactive isotopes buried deep under ground and brings them back up to the surface.
NC makes it illegal for private citizens to release the ingredients to fracking fluid. Just like body cam footage is not releasable without a judge releasing it.
So we know what side NC is on, the corporations and the rich 1% and everybody else can just deal with it....some country we have here, everyone and everything can be bought and paid for apparently and screw the consequences to others.

Nowadays the entire capitalist system is the local bar🎉 I feel like a fireman without a fire hose just watching it all burn!🔥

@@kathrynw3 only after they get paid for moving it around four or five times then and only then will it get loaded onto a ship that is owned by a subsidiary of black rock, Vanguard, Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, or one of the others will they dump it off in the Arctic far far away from any of their privately owned Islands in the tropics
More people need to know this
As an OEPA scientist/biologist, all too common.
Greed is destroying everything! This is heartbreaking!
Voting Republican is like buying cheap toilet paper. YOU ALWAYS END UP WITH SHIT ON YOU.💩💩👿
Don't kid yourself and stop engaging in the fighting blaming and separation, that is exactly what they count on you doing, and it seems you're willing to be their lap dog. Dumbocrats are JUST as corrupted, JUST as devious, and JUST as full of shit as the Repubes. And unless your life is just peachy, you got shit all over you, and it sounds like you're a dem. So who's to blame for that?
Stop using gas and electricity
Take a tour on Memory Lane. Obama was touting our " energy independence" through fracking.
Paraphrasing Ralph Nader..." Both sides of the aisle dial from the same dollar. "

I very much appreciate your videos! Thank you for informing people about issues like this.
Yep
They should make the regulators and the owners/board live across the street until it is cleaned up.....bet they find the money real fast.
Fantastic content once again
Appreciate the work, man. As an Ohio native, it's great to see a focus on the environmental issues that hit close to home. Many old coal country communities and Appalachia as a whole have been trampled in by corporate greed. The area is left as a toxic wasteland for the residents to worry about. Stuff like this shines a light on the downsides of our society without regulation or containing lax regulation for very important things like clean water and air.
Wtf? This is absurd. And disturbing!!!!🤨
Its normal in a red state.
AND YOU CAN THANK J D VANCE FOR THIS, THE GOVERNOR, ETC.
FOLLOW THE MONEY, THE BRIBES, AND YOU WILL FIND OUT WHO APPROVED THIS!!
And just the tip of the iceberg, i'm absolutely sure that it's worse than you can even imagine.
2:49 And this is the problem. People looking for a quick fix not having the forethought of what the outcome might be.
Or as i like to call it corporate and political greed.
@kathrynw3 this falls mainly on the EPA. A lot of planning and permissions go into building a place like that. A fracking facility built 150' from a river on a flood plain? Blame the administration who put the bureaucrats in the position to allow this.
Who represents this district? Gym Jordan?
This is so crazy. I live down river from this town. I never knew anything about this waste storage.😮
right into the Ohio river jfc
Kudos to the people of this town for their victory!
Welcome to your fascist future.
Love your work. You and your team are great. 👍
And how many of them are going to vote for Trump 🤦♂
