  • My experience of the first month Milan Art Institute Mastery Program. I am giving you 21 Tips along the way and show you all the assignments that we did in Section 1, section 2, section 3 and section 4.
    I started the program on January 1st 2024 and want to finish by December 31st 2024!
    I learned how to oil paint - I made my first 6 oil paintings along the way and they turned out great. I hope you find this useful! Please comment if you have questions or requests for art tutorials!

      Awesome! Please don't feel that you are "failing" if you can't finish within a year, there is nothing wrong with that! I think it is important to keep the momentum and motivation going, so having a bit of a set schedule is worth it (for me at least), but it isn't worth burning out over it! I hope to find you in the community! Keep it up!

I’m learning new things when I didn’t think I needed to do some of these lessons! It really is worth it. I’m so impressed with the teaching style of the Milans. I like your take about sticking within the time limits to finish on time. I have not been able to stick to the time limits because I am a slow painter but maybe my focus should be more on the technique. I agree that following time limits and having an accountability buddy would be helpful.

    • @katjart3649
      @katjart3649  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes well... that depends on whether you want to finish in about year or whether that is not your goal. But I really think the first part is all about the technical knowledge - not so much technical mastery - so that when you get into painting what YOU want to paint you know how to do it. And then you can master the techniques that you need... I know for myself that I am really looking forward to painting my own sources, and that is also when more care/attention/time will be invested...

      Does working with oil paint smell really bad? Don't you have to have a well ventilated area to paint? I have a small apt. How big is that easel?

    • @katjart3649
      @katjart3649  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, I almost didn't see your question because you posted it as an answer to someone else ;-) Nowadays there are pretty good non-toxic options. There is a bit of a smell to it, but not too bad, depending on the products you use. Also, if you don't like it, after the first part (3 months) you can stop painting with oils entirely if it isn't your thing. My studio is small and not too well ventilated, especially in winter of course. So if I can't have a door or window open while painting I make the sessions 2 hours at the most. I don't get headaches, some people do.
      The easel they build is about 8' wide by 7' high (2,5meters by 2 meters), mine is about 6' by 6' (180 cm). Of course a lot of people make or use smaller ones, depending on what space you have available... I hope that helps?

    • @katjart3649
      @katjart3649  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Yes, it is possible, but depends a lot on where your priorities in life are. And this is said without judgement - if you have other things and living beings that demand your attention aside from making art, it doesn't mean you can't be an artist or can't do the mastery program. But it means that maybe you do it in a longer timeframe, which is entirely possible. I also answered you on Insta, but I thought other people might be interested in this question, too.♥️

    What is the best medium to use to encourage drying.

    • @katjart3649
      @katjart3649  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is a great question! I Suppose you mean for oils? Well I probably don't have enough comparison to be able to answer that. So far I have been using Winsor & Newtons Liquin as well as Schmincke's Rapid Medium, and I can't tell a difference. I like the gel-like consistency of Liquin. I also have some Winsor & Newton Griffin Alkyd paint, which is supposed to dry faster, but I haven't noticed that much of a difference. The most important factor is the climate in your studio. If it is cold and damp it dries much slower...

    • @katjart3649
      @katjart3649  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a great question! It depends on what you choose - you can join "group feedback" or a private mentor. The latter is almost always reachable by text message, and you get a monthly feedback call - I believe 1 hr. The group feedback is always available and you can ask questions there, too. These are different price points of course. I don't have any of these at the moment (but might book it later into the program) - but I can still post within the community and get feedback there. I get no feedback from teachers or mentors however. Honestly, the price I paid would be way too low for that, but I can see that someone might want/need more feedback.

    I've never even "held a paint brush" that's a small exaggeration as I've held some but never tried painting ;) Milan says you can take their program even if "you've never held a paint brush " What is your view on this??

    • @katjart3649
      @katjart3649  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for asking! It really depends on you and your own expectations! You will get very good basics and impressive before/after results if you take this course. Whether you are ready to sell your art at the end of the year is another question. But maybe you could! If you do the program in one year, you have to be pretty quick with the assignments, and maybe that is a stretch for a beginner. Practise makes perfect, and you just might need a bit more practise, meaning time. The main thing is training the eye. Also you would want to be careful about who you compare yourself to. Some people in the program are experienced artists - if you take that as motivation rather than being frustrated, that your projects don't look as good, you are in the right mindset to make progress really fast... Does that help?

      aaaah, yes, I know that that is a luxury to have which many don't! But you can dedicate a section of your apartment to your art and call it your artist-corner. Organization becomes even more important if that is the case - you can do it!

    How about giving a supply list and letting people buy the materials on their own? I find it really shady when information like this is kept secret to make people buy the supplies directly from them, and them make you feel like it’s YOUR fault the techniques aren’t working because you don’t have the correct supplies. I’m pretty sure Liquin can do the job you said you had a hard time with. Gatekeeping materials to make money out of people is disgusting

      Oh but they do! They provide an in-depth materials list and you absolutely don’t have to buy their supplies. In fact, I believe most people don’t. Sorry if I wasn’t clear on that - it just so happens that their offers are actually a great value and then you also end up having exactly what they are using. I do use Liquin and yes, it works.

      How much extra is it to have a mentor. Plus how did you find others that are doing this the same time you are doing this?

      Check out Milan Art Store... the package deals seem expensive, but if you buy all these products in that quality, you will pay just about that, too@@DG-zt9mo Once you sign up on the waiting list, you immediately start getting sent a lot of (free!) lessons and information. And from there on you will be informed once you can buy/enrol in the program. But of course you won't be forced to do that at all. You can just enjoy the free content and never sign up. Which is why I suggest you just do that. I hope that answers your questions...
