What a lovely town it used to be, really makes me sad to see what remains. The council should be appalled with what they've allowed to happen.

Wonderful. That was like a time machine. I was born there in 1960. Does anyone remember the Tudor Rose Shoppe in The Ironmarket?

What kind of shop was it? I don't remember it and 5 years older than you. :)

@@scoppio07 I only remember it being closed. It was very old. There was a apparently a murder committed there, my Aunty told me. It was accross the road from the George and Dragon pub.

I can remember way back when the ring road was being built. I also remember shops like Tikos and Halfords. I bought a Raleight Bomber bike from there back in 1983. It cost a hundred pounds which would be about 350 pounds in todays money!

Oh wow great footage of Castle.i bemoan the demolition of theold Municipal Hall and what do we have now a glass cage.but Newcwastle still is a old and ancient Borough have a walk through the town see the buildings .come on you council leaders please do not let this lovley old town fall or let it fail . Be proud of your heritage .if you care for nNewcastle take care of it .if you cannot you are not deserving to call yourself a true citisen of this wonderfull town.

Pity there were no shots of the station and goods yard I loved it there, but otherwise a breath of my childhood.

Newcastle’s been vile for years. All the shops (rubbish ones too) are all shut, the good ones are all long gone. The only thing I go to is the cinema.

You would expect things to get better with the passage of time but this is not the case in this borough.

The Uk government and local councils over decades have failed this once proserous town and the city of Stoke. If you visit similar cities around the country (Sheffield for example) they've had huge investment, which attracts retail and business. Its the job of our local MPs to get money from central government to regenerate, and our MPs are happy clapping gaining 20m which doesn't even paper over the cracks.

A beautiful town, spoiled by The Tip at Wallys Quarry and poor decisions made.
