It kinda stood out to me for that. Some episodes I'd recommend checking out are the season 5 episode "Rain of Terror," which skews into horror territory with a "trapped in a house with the killer" narrative, or season 6's "Alienated" where Jesse apparently gets abducted by aliens, and features cameos by Bill Mumy, Wil Wheaton, Walter Koenig, George Takei, Majel Barrett, and Grace Lee Whitney.
Her next victim is "Terry Bratwurst"? Ah, it's Terry _Broadhurst._ That sounds less... juicy. I legitimately thought the vampiress was going after a victim named Bratwurst for a second.
This channel consists of so many things I was forced to watch as a child by my mother while I complained about missing cartoons....now as an adult these shows are all so nostalgic to me and this channel just brings me back.
Julie Carmen must really love playing vampires, considering her role in Fright Night 2. And honestly I respect the show for going full supernatural. I like it when a seemingly normal, grounded show peels back the layers and shows there's horrific stuff in its universe.
it's funny that there are a handful of like "tv safe paranormal" things where so long as you keep it a bit ambiguous it's fine like prophetic dreams, reincarnation, UFOs that are just strange lights but then you've got stuff like vampires, bigfoot, sea monsters, mummies where it's such an odd stark shift
Yeah, it's funny how it's always some other profession outside of detective in these cosy mysteries. Even British television gets in on that act, with one show having the characters that solve crimes be *gardeners*. Admittedly, one of them is a former cop, so she knows some stuff. The show was called Rosemary and Thyme, in case ya were wondering.
By definition the sleuth in a cozy mystery cannot be a professional investigator of any kind. That's just how cozies are. (Also, love Rosemary and Thyme! Such a good show!)
You should check out Ms. Fisher’s murder mysteries. It’s a fantastic show set in the 1920-30’s Australia featuring a recent heiress slash flapper who opens up a detective agency with the aid of her heavily sheltered Catholic maid. It deals a lot with the politics and issues of the time (the first episode is literally about abortion) and is generally rooted in reality (if you ignore the fashion and the serial killer who thinks he’s the reincarnation of the god Ra). It’s easily my favorite murder mystery show and I feel a rather unique one at that which deserves more attention.
It’s such a fun show. The ancient Egypt thing I actually really disliked, because it felt so divorced from the vibes of the rest of the show, which was fantastic. Have you seen Miss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, the 60s set sequel? It’s not as fun without the flapper vibes and Phryne is much more fun than her descendent sleuth, but it’s still good.
Ah there is still a ton of whacky stuff. Doom patrol just ended. Then everything Neil Gaiman is pretty whacky (Sandman, dead boy detectives, good omens). And there is probably a ton of stuff I'm forgetting right now.
I chuckled when I saw this video because I thought it was the name of a Murder She Wrote episode. Then I was perplexed to know it was an actual show. Then I was just incredulous to learn it wasn't like a spinoff sibling series to Murder She Wrote. All those feelings before you guided us through this crazy episode!I'd be down with seeing more videos on this show, especially if you can find more unhinged episodes like this one!!
Holy heck, this is the funniest episode roses has made a in a while. I normally chuckle during their videos, but this is the first one in a while that had me annoying my roommates with laughter.
Seriously, Barry Van Dyke has a world-class jawline. Oh yeah! Dr. Bentley also played the FBI agent in Dumb & Dumber. Thought she looked familiar. Diagnosis Murder did way better with paranormal stuff than Baywatch Nights did. Probably because of the cozy mystery aspect.
@@awordabout...3061 Yep, I believe Diagnosis Murder was on BBC1 after Doctors at 2:15pm, then either Murder She Wrote or Monk on BBC2 at 3pm (I watched a lot of daytime TV back then lol)

I am simply 1000% (thousand) thankful for even mention this show. I am lazy to memefy this (I am even sure I couldn't attach the picture here), but: She was a Murder, she wrote girl. He (me) was a Diagnosis Murder boy.
Have you ever seen Father Dowling investigates? It was even weirder than both murder she wrote and diagnosis murder combined. A catholic priest (with a wacky evil identical twin), with a young nun (with a streetwise rebel past) as his sidekick solves crime.
Also Due South was the best, a Mounty with a pet wolf and an American cop solve crimes, who both can see the ghosts of their dead dads without the other one knowing. The 90s was the best for wacky murder mysteries!!!
@@Nick-wm5xx No, a big part of me watching wacky murder mysteries in the 90s was the fact that there were only 4-5 channels at the time and no internet.
Julie Carmen also played a vampire in the underrated "Fright Night Part II". Also, as "Diagnosis Murder" exists in the universe as the real "Mission: Impossible" - ie the TV series (no seriously) the opportunity for the IMF to take on vampires exists!

considering how many other 80s/90s crime dramas are covered on this channel, i'd love to see PushingUpRoses take on an episode of the original Macgyver. I binged the entire series over the course of a few months and its great, and right up the alley for the channel. also if this show ever had a crossover with Murder She Wrote or any other show covered on this channel (like Magnum PI), then that means vampires are ALSO canon in that universe, and therefore canon in the Murder She Wrote universe if they crossed over with that

Good suggestions! Alienated and Murder On The Hour are two of my favorite episodes. (Actually, most of s6 is excellent; definitely the best season imo.)
This show is not one I ever watched, but it looks like a lot of fun. As far as weird stuff goes, apparently there are at least two UFO related episodes (2x22 My Baby Is Out Of This World and 6x6 Alienated) - maybe they might offer goofy paranormal shenanigans on par with this one?
There's also a non-paranormal, but still unhinged episode I caught once involving known shock jock a-hole Morton Downey Jr. playing pretty much himself getting offed by a Martha Stewart-type stand-in host mid-commercial break of her show. Googling puts it at S3x17 and it was apparently written by comics' own Gerry Conway.
Alienated was one of the "theme" episodes where the main guest stars were in sci-fi TV shows, in this case "Star Trek". It included Bill Mumy who was in "Lost in Space" and "Babylon Five".
The last episode for Diagnosis Murder has stuck with me since I first saw it when it premiered. It is called "The Blair Nurse Project" and it is a doozy. I would love to see you do an analysis of this episode. Have a great day!
Neur, I used to watch Diagnosis Murder with my mom when I was like 7 and this episode gave me nightmares because it was usually a "realistic" show and I was suddenly unsure if vampires were real or not
i remember one where the ghost of a long murdered victim apparently protected her adult son her from dying in a fire, which the Dr Sloan and crew saw on a video tape of the security footage, so Im honestly not surprised that this was an episode (growing up, episodes of this show would play around 2pm and i would love to watch them, and this is actually the first time I've even heard about this one, maybe the bbc felt it was too out there for show?)
I would love to see more Diagnosis Murder videos. My grandma loved this show as well as Murder She Wrote, though I don't remember very many specific episodes. I do know there's one episode where Mark's sister comes to visit, and she's played by Betty White, and that in and of itself is just delightful.
Deciding that a bachelor contest would be good for PR despite having exactly zero things to do with their operation is EXACTLY the kind of weird, out of pocket, and out of touch move I've come to expect from management honestly 🤣
I used to watch this with my parents, we called the show "Happy Murder" because the tone of the show was so lighthearted despite gruesome murders (we weren't super familiar with the cozy mystery genre). Very cheesy but fun viewing. I don't have a specific ep to suggest, it was a long time ago, but would be happy to see you cover more if you decide to.
regarding the stake, a lot of vampire media plays it fast and loose with the stakes, in buffy the vampire slayer as long as its wood it works, she stakes vamps with pencils a few times, same thing in from dusk till dawn, they stake some by throwing them onto an upside down table, and they also do the pencil thing
There are several supernatural themed episodes in the whole series, this one, and then one from later where ghosts are revealed to be cannon, as a ghost investigation team investigates a closed down part of the hospital. There's another vampire episode where a woman claims she needs blood to not have her skin disintegrate. She uses her dog to kill the victims and then drinks the blood via smoothies. That one leaves off a bit more ambiguous, though totally implies that she was right as the last shot seen of her is her face looking all red and infected. Outside of those one of the spookiest episodes for me was one that had Mark and company trapped in a house during a really bad storm. One of those where the killer has to be someone with the group or a ghost. And the episode does a really good job confusing the two until the end, with good evidence on who it actually was. If I remember later I'll teach down downbthe episodes information. I watched it so out of order with my mom that I never really paid attention to the title or ep number info.
Oh, I seriously approve of this new series. I'm looking forward to more! For a possible suggestion for Diagnosis Murder I remember one episode, but sadly I do not remember the title for it. Basically, an author creates this character based off Amanda, and it becomes her imaginary friend, so to speak.
Of all the TV shows in the "American shows that were on daytime TV on the BBC when I was off sick from school" genre, Diagnosis Murder was my favourite, I don't remember this episode though!
Fun fact, the reason the music sounds so similar is because CBS aired both shows. They overlapped for three years, so they would end up using the same sounds.
Diagnosis Murder episodes worth consideration. “Murder Two” (Season 4, Episode 15): the Matlock crossover. “Miracle Cure” (Season 1, Episode 1): the pilot with a murderous priest. "The Plague" (Season 1, Episode 18): Steve catches the literal black death. "All-American Murder" (Season 3, Episode 3): no, I can't explain it either. "The Murder Trade" (Season 3, Episode 14): a sort of knock off of Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train".
The fact that she really was a vampire makes what she said prior to the reveal blatantly obvious and realistically you wouldn’t be that careless with your secret.
Not embarrassed to admit I thought Barry Van Dyke was dreamy when watching this as a teenager. ...slightly embarrassed to admit I may have shipped Steve and Jesse in my head. 😅

I loved rain of terror
Agreed, and I'm glad someone else recognized her, she was great in FN2.
it's funny that there are a handful of like "tv safe paranormal" things where so long as you keep it a bit ambiguous it's fine like prophetic dreams, reincarnation, UFOs that are just strange lights but then you've got stuff like vampires, bigfoot, sea monsters, mummies where it's such an odd stark shift
Don't forget about Cadfael (Though admittedly, that was a book series first.) Derek Jacobi as a 12th century crime-solving monk.
i ADORE rosemary and thyme!
By definition the sleuth in a cozy mystery cannot be a professional investigator of any kind. That's just how cozies are. (Also, love Rosemary and Thyme! Such a good show!)
Love it!
What happened to parsley and sage?
I LOVE Ms. Fisher!
She's seen it. She did an entire video on it. If you click on her channel, it's actually the first video to show up.
We've gone from Bedknobs and Broomsticks to Mary Poppins! _This is why you're my No.1 Random Channel I Subscribed to During the Pan-Dam!_
Just the fact you fairly randomly picked an episode to have it go "Vampires are real lol" is so wild
Diagnosis Murder had rails?!
There is a two part episode where Mark Sloan gets kidnapped. Find it, it's probably the best piece of daytime television I have EVER seen.
Bro the one where they tie him to a spinny chair and put him in a van 😭😭
I miss how crazy tv used to be. Almost everything now is, "hardcore", "intense" and "grounded".
So true. I remember Sunset Beach, a show with baby-swapping, evil twins, and literal cursed jewels.
Ah there is still a ton of whacky stuff. Doom patrol just ended. Then everything Neil Gaiman is pretty whacky (Sandman, dead boy detectives, good omens). And there is probably a ton of stuff I'm forgetting right now.
Not really true. There's plenty of crazy stuff, you just haven't had as long to discover it
"gritty," "grimdark".
But still not particularly realistic.
Used to watch this with my grandparents, love this show.
That describes every episode of Diagnosis Murder.
Isn't a remake?
Was just about to say that
So thrilled you’re covering Diagnosis Murder, my absolute favourite of these shows - more, please!
A vampire who moonlights as a hitman (hitwoman?) sounds like a Vampire: The Masquerade character
Ah yes. Moriah Thomas, famous hitvampire.
Totally a Toreador
Assamite impersonator perhaps?
And she isn't even a hitman, she just feeds AND earns the passport. That's like a side quest in an unrelated VtM story.
The banu haqim in Vampire the masquerade are actually a clan of Vampire assassins
Looking forward to the Diagnosis Murder episode "the Karloff Catastrophe" 😆
Holy heck, this is the funniest episode roses has made a in a while. I normally chuckle during their videos, but this is the first one in a while that had me annoying my roommates with laughter.
Seriously, Barry Van Dyke has a world-class jawline.
Oh yeah! Dr. Bentley also played the FBI agent in Dumb & Dumber. Thought she looked familiar. Diagnosis Murder did way better with paranormal stuff than Baywatch Nights did. Probably because of the cozy mystery aspect.
She also had a long recurring role on Young and The Restless as well she was doing double duty with that and Diagnosis Murder
I’ve never seen diagnosis murder, however I would love to see you cover more episodes. This was bonkers in the best way.
I loved watching Diagnosis Murder, it was always on repeat on BBC 2 in afternoon growing up.
Glad to know that such a slice of Americana made it to the Beeb.
Yes, it was either that or Monk in the Noughties. Murder, She Wrote was on ITV. 😄
@@Arakhor I definitely remember M,SW on BBC2, after Diagnosis Murder around 3ish?
@@awordabout...3061 Yep, I believe Diagnosis Murder was on BBC1 after Doctors at 2:15pm, then either Murder She Wrote or Monk on BBC2 at 3pm (I watched a lot of daytime TV back then lol)
It's still shown here if you have Great TV! channel/app. My telly has the app and it's on Sky as well I know. Decent little channel playing just a few programs but constantly 👌
I am simply 1000% (thousand) thankful for even mention this show.
I am lazy to memefy this (I am even sure I couldn't attach the picture here), but:
She was a Murder, she wrote girl.
Have you ever heard of a UK show called Father Brown? With Mark Williams as a crime solving priest?
@@Nick-wm5xx No, a big part of me watching wacky murder mysteries in the 90s was the fact that there were only 4-5 channels at the time and no internet.
I loved Sister Stevie! She was the best!
@@Nick-wm5xx Father Brown is really good. BBC cozies are really fun.
This show is so utterly formulaic that my husband calls it "Diagnosis: Boring"! But i love it and will watch every single video you make about it!
It's so nice to see roses back again. always a pleasure.
Julie Carmen also played a vampire in the underrated "Fright Night Part II". Also, as "Diagnosis Murder" exists in the universe as the real "Mission: Impossible" - ie the TV series (no seriously) the opportunity for the IMF to take on vampires exists!
I nearly spit out my water at 4:17. Bravo Roses, I truly wasn’t expecting that.
I used to watch this series all the time with my Mom. I loved it.
I was going to suggest Quincy as a TV detective who was actually a detective, but I completely forgot that he's a coroner
I swear theres a Diagnosis Murder episode where Jack Klugman plays a character thats essentially Quincy in all but name.
Columbo is a detective but he is weird enough that I think it counts
@@AeonKnigh432 but that's just it though, I can't think of another one that's actually a detective
There is Midsommer Murders.
I love Quincy, got all the episodes
Pleasssse start covering this more 🙏 it fits right in with the other older shows you covered. I didn't even know this show existed until now and I'm going to start watching it now and your humor fits so well with it.
My mother loved this show. Murder, She Wrote as well. And Columbo.
It's weird watching them now, but I still like them, too.
Same love... Same.
I so enjoy when you break down these types of episodes. It takes me back to my youth with no cable tv.
Yayyyy!!! Diagnosis Murder aired back to back here with Murder She Wrote so I associate the two shows very fondly. So happy to see this video from you! But if you want bonkers in the Diagnosis Murder universe, wait until the show's finale because... well... you'll see!
considering how many other 80s/90s crime dramas are covered on this channel, i'd love to see PushingUpRoses take on an episode of the original Macgyver. I binged the entire series over the course of a few months and its great, and right up the alley for the channel.
also if this show ever had a crossover with Murder She Wrote or any other show covered on this channel (like Magnum PI), then that means vampires are ALSO canon in that universe, and therefore canon in the Murder She Wrote universe if they crossed over with that
I think these episodes are exactly your brand:
Death By Extermination S02E11
Murder By The Book S03E16
Rain Of Terror S05E16
Blood Will Out S06E05
Alienated S06E06 (The Star Trek Episode)
Write, She Murdered S06E07 (For obvious reasons, lol)
Murder On The Hour S06E15
Trash TV S06E19+20
Murder By Remote S07E16
A Resting Place S07E19
Good suggestions! Alienated and Murder On The Hour are two of my favorite episodes. (Actually, most of s6 is excellent; definitely the best season imo.)
Ooooh,I *loved* Diagnosis Murder! The BBC used to air it in the afternoon when I was a student, and my flatmates and I were obsessed.
Oh, HELL, yeah! More Grandma TV with PushingUpRoses!
SO glad to see you're making videos again!
2x22 if it's the one I'm thinking of is not actual aliens
Alienated was one of the "theme" episodes where the main guest stars were in sci-fi TV shows, in this case "Star Trek". It included Bill Mumy who was in "Lost in Space" and "Babylon Five".
The last episode for Diagnosis Murder has stuck with me since I first saw it when it premiered. It is called "The Blair Nurse Project" and it is a doozy. I would love to see you do an analysis of this episode. Have a great day!
My Mom and I loved watching this show and observing the evolution of Steve's hair
I had never even heard of Diagnosis Murder before now! Thanks for the video on this.
Great, now I gotta figure out where Diagnosis Murder is streaming so I can relive that childhood nostalgia
Five seasons are on Pluto. Unfortunately neither season one or two isn't included.
I watch on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries
I would love to see more Diagnosis Murder videos. My grandma loved this show as well as Murder She Wrote, though I don't remember very many specific episodes. I do know there's one episode where Mark's sister comes to visit, and she's played by Betty White, and that in and of itself is just delightful.
YES! Hoping this turns into a little spin-off series
Yes! I'm so happy to see you review this series.
Deciding that a bachelor contest would be good for PR despite having exactly zero things to do with their operation is EXACTLY the kind of weird, out of pocket, and out of touch move I've come to expect from management honestly 🤣
I'm so glad you kept the title pattern from the first murder she wrote episode!
Love when shows suddenly do supernatural stuff. ☠️
Even the made-of-wood part is negotiable; in the original novel, Dracula was killed with a knife.
This channel is by far one of my favorites.
Agreed! Loved rain of terror
This was a lot of fun. I love how you enjoy the crazy plot.
9:11
For a second, I thought she was gonna go "Wrryyyy..."
Oh daaaaamn I loved this show!! I always thought it was wild, but it slipped my mind! Thanks for refreshing my stoned memory ❤
Of all the TV shows in the "American shows that were on daytime TV on the BBC when I was off sick from school" genre, Diagnosis Murder was my favourite, I don't remember this episode though!
Yes!!!! I loved this show !!!
OMG I grew up with this show, CANNOT wait to see more of these!
Love your content 🎉
This is amazing. I wanna watch the show now and please do more of these.
I absolutely love when shows take a random supernatural turn. I wish more did stuff like that, even if it's just in Halloween specials.
Except no one would believe she was a vampire so she could be as obvious as she liked.
I never watched this show, but I love your review! Please do more 🥰
Not embarrassed to admit I thought Barry Van Dyke was dreamy when watching this as a teenager.
...slightly embarrassed to admit I may have shipped Steve and Jesse in my head. 😅
Well, Steve/Jesse *is* the ship with the highest count on Ao3.
@@mikakestudios5891 ...I suppose I shouldn't be surprised to hear there's Diagnosis Murder shipping fic on AO3. 🤣
Same.
You’re definitely going to love the alien abduction episode. There was also one that was pretty much a tvpg version of the film Flatliners.
My personal favorites were the one with the writer that commits multiple murders to get over her writers block and the one involving a Ben & Jerry ice cream copy. 😂
Scott Baio aka Lawyer Bob Loblaw, pitch line:
“Why should you go to jail for a crime someone else noticed?”
Another great video! Thanks for doing one on diagnosis murder, its a pretty good show but its no murder she wrote. How bout some Matlock vids? ❤👍
WHAT???? I keep expecting that they were going to Scooby-Doo it, but they Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island'd it?
SDoZI is 26 years old. Just going to cry a little bit.
So excited to see this, I LOVE Diagnosis Murder. I don't remember much because I was a kid when it aired, so I had no idea they ever went full supernatural in it LOL I do remember that Walker Texas Ranger would go full supernatural all the time. The one that always sticks with me is an episode where a buffalo statue is crying real tears for some reason
I used to watch this show when I was younger. I don't remember any specific episodes, but I do remember that it aired on a PAX TV in my area along with super market sweep!
I didn’t know this show even existed. This is a treasure! I would love to watch more Diagnose Murder videos from you!
I had never heard of this show but you've got me intrigued! And your commentary is delightful, as always 🤣
Thank you for making THIS the episode you begin reviewing Diagnosis Murder with.
I love that your covering another one of my favorite shows from my childhood! Id love some more Golden Girls in the future, but this is awesome!!!
