    You question, would I get one of these. I'm now thinking to getting the URSA Cine 12K for that 16 stops of DR. It may be as high as 14 at an SNR of 2. This is equal to the old Arri Alexa amd Ameira. ut still less than to awesome Alexa 35. But curiously t may be above the Red VRaptorVV sensor's DR of 13.5 at an SNR of 2. Then have the PYXIS as a B cam. These will fit with my current canon cn-e full frame Lenses. I'm interested in seeing how much DR Cine D will achieve. I suspect 14 stops at an SNR of 2.

    Dale your spoton right saying that second screen on the new Ursa Cine 12K not making sense. Mostly because the camera moves. Dose BMD think we're going to strap the AC to the camera or something crazy like that. It's been many decades since the AC has pulled focus remotely. I don't think anybody will be returning to the 50's using static camera shot because the AC is attached to the lens. I think have a more comprehensive amount of in and out sockets similar to the Alexa 35 would be a better use of the camera real estate than the second screen.

    The Pyxis is perfect for me! I've been rocking the P4K with the .64xl speed booster-- the lowlights amazing, and I have no complaints that I couldn't solve with a little bit of rigging.
    However, believe it or not this new camera allows for better battery life, BNC connectors via SDI, and a better post-production workflow in a more rigable body WITH a full frame 6k sensor for $3k?!
    This is exactly what I've been needing and I'm happy that they finally released it. Definitely going to purchase this and use it as my A cam & keep the P4K as my B cam.
    REALLY interested in the Ursa Cine, but I thought price point, I couldn't justify using it over the Pyxis, so renting it would definitely be the plan.

    If Blackmagic made the BOX camera with the URSA cine sensor instead of 6K sensor and priced less than $10,000 they would have taken away RED / Venice's lunch, dinner and sleep.

    I’m not sure what to think of these new cameras. The box design is cool, and when they come up with a faster gen two sensor I will probably be first in line. But I’m not prepared to dump the two CCs I’ve picked up in the last few months to make the “switch” to the same sensor, even though rigging will be easier in some circumstances. And the new Ursa is a powerhouse at a very fair price, but it will be a major pain to fit into more typical workflows. There’s not a DIT on the planet who will know what to do with those new memory modules, and most commercial oriented production companies have no interest in dealing with BM cameras anyway. With that said, I do like the look I see in the 12k sample footage shown during the presentation. There’s no doubt the DR has expanded quite a bit and the overall color depth seemed really beautiful. But a lot of spec sheets are looking for Sony FX packages, and though once in a while you can talk people into BM, a lot of the time that’s where the conversation ends. So I’m still waiting to see what comes next in the FX lineup before I start saving up for an Ursa Cine.

      That’s a tough call as you’re fresh into the CC bodies, I’d been toying with the idea of a Micro Cinema Camera G2 as a mini box camera. But would far rather use something that isn’t a unique build so when other people are working with me they can just pick it up and run with it.
      I still like the URSA body size for the weight and interia you get, not sure how the pricing will sit in the market. The burano feels like it may be having a rough time…

      @@Dale_Campbell yeah, I think in general, filming immersive videos which probably require at least 8k, is going to be a trend. Alongside the AVP, they released these experiences, a tightrope walker, baby rhinos, Alicia Keys studio session.
      I think that as AR/VR becomes more of a thing, there will be a greater demand for higher resolution video. Disney seems to be going in on it, and I think soon we will see more live events offering it, I have heard something about NBA games from courtside.
      Obviously, this is still really early days, but the rumors are saying Apple is working on a cheaper version of it, and I think the fact that they released it has also helped Meta with their quest lineup.
      Grant Petty said something like "what if everyone could shoot imax", in the announcement.
      Blackmagic has a super close relationship with apple, so I wouldn't be surprised if these cameras enabled some sort of immersive video experience. Obviously, this is all guessing, but why else would people need 17k?
      As many people say, maybe they didn't make this camera for you, maybe it enables someone else's workflow. Either way, its still a pretty cool idea.

    Just something else to think about. Thus far Blackmagic has not included internal ND on any short flange distance (L mount) camera, because they are sticking with traditional internal ND vs electronic ND. Given that they are doing this it means the mount options must have a longer flange distance. So Pl, EF and LPL are the only common Cine mounts that would work. Hopefully in the future they will adopt a ND system that is compatible with L mount.

    The side screen on the 12k and 17k allows you to set your focus or iris marks for the focus puller on the screen. Even if they use a wireless follow focus. I believe it's a well thought out design.

    Mixed feelings on all the cameras...
    - Pyxis is one of those "it's about time" upgrades - as it is only $400 more for the new box body I would be pissed if I bought the Cinema Camera 6k a few months back. But, I wouldn't rush to sell my Komodo unless they REALLY improve that sensor readout speed on the Pyxis - the rolling shutter on the 6k pockets was so bad I'll never consider getting another one, no matter how amazing the color science is. If it's the same sensor in the Pyxis as the Cinema 6k, I'll pass.
    -The Ursa Cine 12k and 17k are VERY interesting, but at that price ($15k USD) I'd probably just rent them if I needed that kind of look. They are definitely disruptors, as nothing comes close to being large format with that resolution at that price point. I can't wait to get a used one in 2026. ;)
    - New Micro panel is a banger, as it addresses all the problems I have with my current micro panel (too bulky for travel, not enough function buttons for 2ndary actions). And for $495 USD...wish I sold my panel sooner. :(

      The Sensor Readout is my big question…. Can’t wait to see if the body has allowed for some upgrades to the rest of the internals to allow for faster readouts…. Ha it’s always impossible to judge when the right time to jump out of old kit is!

    • @Meatyowlleg
      @Meatyowlleg 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Same thought on Pyxis here, the rolling shutter from the BMCC 6K FF is kinda bad even you can partially fix it in post which will take some time. But finally you we can do some anamorphic open gate gimbal shots.

      @@Dale_Campbell I hear that! I was going to sell my micro panel about 3 months ago but had a couple personal projects that needed grading and I didn't want to send it to a colorist! Saved a few quid and now I'm stuck with a piece of kit that's worth half what I could have gotten a week ago. :/
      The sensor readout is crucial for my handheld work, if I'm not on sticks/gimbal I can't deal with the jello the CC 6k was throwing...

    Blackmagic won’t be used on big films yet, main reason is high end producers don’t trust BRAW just yet. R3D, PRORES, ARRIRAW are all proven and solid. BMD decided to remove PRORES from their cameras to force users to adopt BRAW, won’t happen just like that. It’s not as robust a codec as the rest. They should have kept ProRes, it would have been the gateway to test BRAW. 🤷🏽‍♂️

    • @Dale_Campbell
      @Dale_Campbell  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I believe a big part of the challenge on the higher resolution sensors was file size. For example on the G2 at 4.6k BRAW can be fairly frugal, prores is considerably heavier!
      I think it’s a bad risk / reward calculation for the bigger higher budget films and series. Ultimately how much would they save when everything else is so expensive in terms of a whole project.

    • @blackicestudios
      @blackicestudios 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@Dale_Campbell the other problem is BMD hardware is usually unreliable. There is always a problem somewhere and cameras don’t last like the other manufacturers cameras. Investments shouldn’t be this way.
