This is still one of the more underrated doll lines ever! STILL 4 years later
I wish they had made ALL of it gender-androgynous - like, the long wigs shouldn't be so feminine-looking (no head band), and I wish they had made all the skirts androgynous (straight, no ruffles, non-gender-specific). Guys wear "skirts", masculine style, like the Scottish kilt, and the straight narrow to-the-ankle denim skirts I've seen trendy boys wearing.
Maybe they’ll come out with new clothes for them!! And new wigs and everything. Definitely room for new things :D

It's really incredible that Mattel has done this - gender-ambiguous dolls!!! WOW - I'm impressed and was not expecting it - what a "surprise" as you say!! It would have been more fun (for me) if the dolls were adults, rather than children. I think any doll designer worth his weight could design a gender-ambiguous doll, and it would be a blast! I don't want to make my doll "male" or "female". I WANT a gender-ambiguous doll! Hee hee! THUMBS UP!!!

And you're right: The idea with these dolls is kids can pick a gender for their doll - not to be "androgynous" Ha ha!!

Congratulations Mattel i really like this new line of dolls, high quality super gorgeous I order 2 sets of this the curly and asian, although I like all of them I already happy with 2 sets bec I limit my doll buying I never buy a doll for a year ,now I decide to add creatable to my collection. With these, you can create many characters, which is awesome! The paint splattered shorts are the design of my pillow cases. Also the design of a shirt I wore in elementary school in the 80s, which I still have! It's my favorite shirt and I bought another with the same design recently so I can wear it.

I think the redhead and the Asian one's look the best. Then again, I am very biased towards black-haired, pale skin or redheaded dolls. I just wish the red hair could be just a bit more vibrant...

Yes I read online news about them as you and other toy critics talked about them. They are very good for kids as they can choose what gender kids they want to play with. I will get one of them soon.

loved this doll line!! your review was super fun as well. my favourite looks you did are definitely the rocker and the first one, he looks like an artist with all the paint splashes and mis-matched shoes!! also i love those checkered slip-ons the redhead came with, they remind me of my vans sneakers! Mattel outdid themselves, this is a such a fresh idea. hoping to see you play around with these and their looks some more!!!

So you are only the second to toy channel that I've seen with these other than Paul and Shannon so yay for you! I totally agree with you that with Mattel and Hasbro if you really like the first line you probably need to stop there lol but this is an and amazing fan saver for Mattel. Wild Heart dolls look to have great articulation but honestly this line might outdo them for the number one fact that the clothing looks outstanding! Now at least in the US these dolls are double the price of wild hearts but you're getting double the quality so I actually don't mind am I sold on the skipper body I don't know but did you show to be good quality

Melissa K at least it’s mostly carboard packaging tho! if they had windows they’d have way more plastic. also, since it’s a nice rectangle box-shape, you could use the packaging to DIY some rooms or closets!

If I was designing the "androgynous collection" I'd include "bun" hair pieces, because those can go either way, too, and are no longer strictly "feminine". I like the idea of a person/character who isn't DEFINED by gender. I love the idea of a "PERSON" without all the baggage of gender. We think our gender is our "identity", which is false, imo. Same goes for "race", "age", socio-economic status, etc. etc. etc.

Went looking for reviews of these guys and I was glad to see your extensive review! I'm picking one up with my latest paycheck and have been trying to decide which one! You did make me want them ALL though! Ah well, my gang will have to be acquired slowly. I WOULD really like to see the braided wig on the dark skinned doll since they're one of my top choices.
I’m curious as to if they can fit Skipper, Barbie or curvy shoes. They could make a great body swap for Skipper or Stacy and it would be awesome if they could wear Barbie heels.

These look like "it (SNL Pat) dolls" where male and female interchangeable. Not very interesting unless they are modifying skin tone and size and body thickness that Mattel is starting with in the She-Ra line (unless they aren't going to do more)! I can't wait for Wonder Woman84 line that would probably do that next up!

Most pre-pubescent (around 12 years of age) to just before adulthood people don't break away into their sexual identity looks until they are around adults to around 21 years of age (approximately)! These dolls are confusing the issue of what the person is (as the SNL "Whose Pat?" show parodied) when for most people in adulthood it's more obvious! Noting a great movie of the past in the 1980s "The Crying Game" showing even when unclear ... does it matter for people who love another, otherwise! This is independent of people born of a sexual gender but growing and maturing to the other (I have no problems with) but, according to healthy maturation life many people will look male or female by the age of 21 years of age independent, again, of what their body form completes for reproductive purposes! ... Reason why I'm more interesting in the Barbie or Ken doll heads looking more as they should in adulthood!

I dislike toys used as propaganda, not getting. Of course real kids are smart and want labels. They want real stuffs not cheap imitations or bootlegs. Kids don't need to be confused by confused adults like born a caucasian hunk but identified as an Asian lady. It's the adults who keep praising how good these are for them. 😂
I would have more praise for this line if it wasn't Mattel. Mattel pretty much CREATES the gender bias consumers have towards toys, and now they're marketing a non gender biased toy. OK. Profit off the issue YOU created.
The doll is never used as propaganda unless you are some weird parent to tells their kid what it should wear and have to wear, like forcing them create a boy with a dress who identifies as something else. Do that that there is a problem. But this doll is just there for creativity and to have a kid distracted with creativity. Plop the doll in front of them and they will do whatever they want with it. No abuse or manipulation if that's what you think it will happen
Also, not all kids want labels. I never did. I wasn't allowed to have a toy car because it's a boy toy but instead they gave me a Barbie car and I wasn't so happy with it because it's not cool to look at. Not even allowed to get toys of a video game franchise and because of that, I literally pretended to be a dude and hated feminism.
