It’s obvious that Ariana’s technique is getting better overtime and she’s getting close to her prime so her voice will mature and be darker but she can maintain to keep good support on her belts
I hope Ariana gets even better than where she's currently at. Mariah is dominating the lows and chest (mid belts) and the iconic whistles, but Ariana is progressively better and healthier with the high belts and head voice/falsettos. Interesting to see that Ariana, though possessing adequately healthy vocal chords, has rasp that seems to be creeping in her upper belts (Mainly in E5/F5, and even in her D5 notes here), unlike pre-2018 where she would virtually have no rasp even throughout her belting range. I feel that since Ariana is such a light soprano voice, the more she pushes for "power" the more her rasp will creep in. Mariah's case at 28 was... As every lamb will resoundingly echo... But there are plenty of girlies who replicate Ariana's tone pretty well, however, much credit to Ariana for being the current pop singer who is unmatched in belting ease in that arena.
@@radipranaja5763 I agree to a certain extent. Maybe on occasion its intentional and on some it isn't. She could be leaning into it for all we know, unless she herself has stated that she does it intentionally. imo, I think she may benefit from embracing a more naturally raspy tone in her upper belts because now her belts have more emotiveness to them. But my observance still holds true that there is a significant amount of rasp in SOME of her upper belts that were virtually not present pre-2018? (Definitely not in 2014)
As an arianator&lambily i really like both of them vocal, ofc mariah is better but ariana have a very significant improvement compare to herself in the past😭😭😭💖

Definitely the best vocalist of their generation and there’s no one that can prove it wrong Mariah’s low notes are so good but what about the Save Your Tears performance? Ariana’s tone was so deep and well achieved that I can only say both have what it takes to actually be considered the best of the best.💜
Mariah is better in every register. The only note that Ariana was better on 28 years was the G5 on upper belts. Every other note we can hear only Mariah, even in bad quality audios. This woman is incredible
ariana grande has the healthier technique and vocal health in this age range. Ariana grande is close to mastering her voice In every register and she's so careful with how she uses it. Mariah still went on tour and did promo even tho she wasn't in a great condition she overworked herself IMO.
Ariana is not even close to mastering her voice in every register. Her lows are still underdeveloped, chest voice is extremely underdeveloped, and her head voice is underdeveloped as well.
@@Sttephy30 she mostly uses head voice its just airy and light so people mistaken it for falsetto. There's no comparison, just my opinion. Mariah is the original and every one maybe not every one wanted to sound like her. Those that came after might refine it more but just like antique and precious things the original is always better. Moral to this story is find your own sound...
The first low note you showed for Ari was an E3, not a Bb3, and I think the first low note for Mariah was a C3 not a Bb2 but I may be wrong on that one
Lows: Mariah no contest Belts: Ariana (they were tied until like C5/C#5 but after that definitely Ariana. Honestly, Mariah was just overly raspy, off pitch, and too constricted/tense here) Hv: Tie Whistles: Mariah Now based on the categories alone Mariah took more technically, but in general tbh I think Ariana took this as a better vocalist overall. Ns but she just was in a better state vocally than Mariah was at 28. The consistency and control was lacking but I will say when butterflyriah was on, *SHE WAS ON* If the whole era was filled with performances like if only you knew/somewhere over the rainbow, to be real, and chain of fools it would’ve been over for Ariana Lmao
This would’ve been more matched if there were other performances besides the vevo one Low notes:Mariah Mid Belts:Tie Upper Belts:Ariana Hv/Falsetto:Ariana Whistles: Mariah and it’s not even close😭
it's clear that Ariana's voice is healthier. She wins in most high belts. But Mariah was great with what she had at that moment. That tone is still unmatched
Tbh Ari won this one. Mariah was doing good up to C#5 but then Ari well preserved mix took over. Those D5’s 2:21 and E5’s 3:49 are legendary. Mariah was unfortunately struggling with her mix during this time. A very chest dominant mix and nodules had began to take their toll.
Arianna is awesome but Mariah makes her sound basic. Nonetheless I love both. It is almost like you compare by similarities and Mariah is the greater of the two. Maybe Arianna is as distinct to me.
I remember when Ariana started back in 2013 ppl was always saying "she's gonna lose her voice in one year singing like this, with this bad technique" and look where we are now, 28 and her voice still preserved, still resonating, her notes still bright, ease and with full vocal chords conection, meanwhile Mariah was completely shaky even at mid belts, her voice was dry, her belts couldn't resonate, her vocal chords couldn't close properly, she just wasn't vibrating. YEAH she had nodules, but she had nodules BC of her OWN technique, it was destructive. And even puting both side a side, hearing Mariah strugle with painful dry notes and no proper vocal chords vibration ppl still assume her technique was better than Ariana's. I absolutely LOVE both, yes i'm an arianator but Mariah is without a doubt the artist i listen the MOST, she's my favorite vocalist... but in studio versions. Her voice became so inconsistent bc she overused with a destructive technique (in a long-term), which doesn't mean she's a bad singer, I'm completly sure that her voice and technique was way more DEVELOPED than Ariana's, BUT both techniques are different. Mariah gave her all, her full capacity, she literally sacrificed her voice to be the best she could be bc that's what she WANTED, and she did it, she was, she was untouchable and still.... in her prime, bc that sacrifice had a price and it came early. With Ariana we always felt she was holding herself (still), her full potential, with a light voice with ease approach to reach those notes, some hate that approach bc "sounds boring, she lacks power, lacks depth, she lacks soul"... but we just can't deny that this is what is preserving her voice and that's what she also always WANTED. There's no right or wrong, there's choices, they did their best to reach their goal and each goal had its prize, but also its loss. Ariana will NEVER top Mariah's vocal prime and Mariah will NEVER top Ariana's vocal longevity. we should respect their choices bc both did an amazing job reaching their goals *just clarifying, for any grammar or english mistake, english is not my first language
You remember when the lambs accused her of faking her whistles? The lambs have always wish for her downfall. Ari vocals age like fine wine. Ariana is resting and taking Broadway vocal lessons. Her next performances are gonna be killer.

Ariana Grande Vocal Analysis (2024) Voice type: Light-Lyric Soprano Vocal range: C3-B5-E7 (4 octaves and 2 notes) Range with the most consistent quality, comfort, and technique: G3-C#5/D5-A5 At best: F3-F5-C6 Lower register: (7/10) Low notes are bright and clear and have a good projection up to G3 consistently and F3 at best. Quite surprising for someone with a high tessitura considering her high sitting voice. However, she loses consistency, projection, and becomes airy and weak F3 and below. Mid-belts and mix: (7.5/10) Mid belts are surprisingly strong for someone who frequently utilizes a heady mix in her belts. Her approach in her mid-belts during her later years (2019 onwards) is more balanced compared to her honeymoon era (2014-early 2016) where her approach is more heady and dangerous woman era (late 2016-2017) where her approach is chestier. She has good control over her mid-belts and it is more balanced, consistent, accessible, and more tensionless than people assume resulting in an open, free, well-projected, and controlled sound consistently from G#4 to D5 especially from Bb4 to C5 at her best. She definitely improved this part of her voice over the years. Upper-belts/mix: (7/10) As a soprano like her, her ease and control in this area are good. She may not be the very best and the pinnacle of upper-belting out there, as some of her diehard fans tend to believe, but her consistency and stamina in this area is no joke. Although not consistently, she produces the best and balanced quality from Eb5-F5. As she goes higher beyond F5, she tends to sound thinner but still often avoids straining and too much tension up to G#5 (her signature upper-belting/mix note). However, she loses consistency when she reaches A5 and above which can sometimes be prone to tension, although this doesn't happen much as she was still able to possess a decent quality of mix up to Bb5 especially in her be my baby and breathin performances most of the time. This ease and consistency in her upper-belting range is due to her heady approach with her mix and mixed-belts. Nowadays, she utilizes a more balanced approach (balanced head and chest mix) to her upper-belts/mix especially in her thank u, next and yours truly era. This balanced approach is evidently showcased especially in her sweetener tour and 2023 yours truly 10 year anniversary live performance where she produced a decent but balanced mix. Although she has improved this part of her voice over the years, it has always been consistent in quality and technique with minor flaws and inconsistencies. Upper-register (head voice and falsetto): (7.5/10) Contrary to popular belief, Ariana utilizes her head voice just as much as she utilizes her falsetto. Her falsetto is probably one of the best that pop music has to offer. It is polished, smooth, controlled, and easily accessible. On the other hand, her head voice is also good and is consistently well-coordinated and connected up to A5. Performances such as moonlight, thinkin bout you, be alright, get well soon, and many more including song covers such as no one mourns the wicked and I wanna dance with somebody showcases her control and consistency in her head voice. She may not possess the best and most developed head voice in the music industry, but she can still keep up. Her head voice possesses a bright, strong, and roundness quality consistently up to F#5 and sometimes up to A5. However, her head voice can sometimes sound airy which limits her true potential. Further analysis with her head voice after the wicked (2024) movie will come out with her role as Glinda the good witch. Vocal Agility: (7.5/10) This may be the vocal skill she possess that has consistently improved over the years. She may not be as good as the best riffers out there like Mariah Carey, Tori Kelly, Beyonce, JoJo, and many others, but her vocal agility is definitely above average and is an integral part of her singing style. She can consistently execute vocal riffs and runs that are precise, fast, and complex with good creativity and musicality. The only downside is that there are few performances where she sounds pitchy and unstable and her vocal runs are sometimes repetitive. Lastly, during her early years, she tends to move her jaw a lot and fortunately, she got rid of that habit almost entirely. Whistle register: (9.5/10) One of the best whistle register user in her generation. Able to control her whistle with ease and is also able to create vocal runs and vocal phrases with it. Vocal Dynamics: (6.5/10) She has showcased vocal dynamics from time to time where she sang from pianissimo up to fortissimo. This is greatly showcased in her 2023 yours truly 10 year anniversary live performance. However, there are very rare cases of her showcasing crescendo and decresendo. Vibrato: (10/10) Her vibrato is one of the most controlled and well-developed that pop music has to offer. It can range from soft/subtle to aggressive/intense and can even shift to it smoothly. This great vibrato is also evident throughout all her register especially in her belts and upper-register. Vocal transition: (9/10) Able to easily and smoothly transition between registers from chest to head to whistle and with great control. Pitch: (8/10) Her wide vocal range allows her to hit high notes and low notes with good pitch accuracy. She rarely gets off-key and goes sharp/flat. Vocal stamina: (9/10) She is able to consistently perform in long periods and still able to maintain a decent to good technique and quality while doing a bunch of adlibs. The disadvantages she has with her stamina are the very few vocal performances where her voice got exhausted performing long periods and minor inconsistencies with some of her live vocal performances. Note: this analysis is based on an educated opinion and knowledge about vocals and music. Hence, this analysis is based on what I hear from the vocalist's live performances throughout the years. So feel free to politely disagree. Overall: 8.04/10 Overall comment: She is not as bad as critics say she is and also not as great as diehard fans made her out to be. Her development is distributed fairly evenly throughout range with her mid-belts and upper-register being currently the most developed register. Her major weakness may be that she tends to sing beyond her range with the most consistent quality, comfort, and technique. Fortunately, notes beyond her consistent range are rarely strained, tensed, or weak. Lastly, her biggest asset may be her whistle register, musicality/creativity, vocal stamina, vocal transition, and vibrato. At the end of the day, Ariana Grande is rather a stylistic vocalist with an adequate vocal technique and skill to back up her singing style. She tends to change her singing style depending on the era that she's in. Mariah Carey Vocal Analysis (prime) Voice type: Light-Lyric Soprano Vocal range: G2-A5-Bb7 (5 octaves and 1 note and a semitone ) Range with the most consistent quality, comfort, and technique: F3/F#3-Eb5/E5-G#5 At best: D3-G5-Bb5 I'll make it shorter for Mariah since almost everyone already has the idea of what she's capable of with her vocal technique and skill unlike Ari who's always a victim of inconsistent vocal analysis on the internet... Low notes: 8.5/10 Mid-belts: 9.5/10 Upper-belts/mix: Eb5-E5 is 8/10 and F5 and above is 6.5/10 despite having a better technique than Ariana, she's prone to inconsistencies in upper-belts and often encounters tension and strain probably due to her chestier approach... Upper-register(falsetto and head voice): 7/10 Vocal Agility: 10/10 Whistle register: 10/10 Vocal dynamics: 7/10 Vibrato: 10/10 Vocal transition: 9/10 Pitch: 10/10 Vocal stamina: 9/10 Overall: 8.84/10

its so hard to compare because these are both gifted women singing songs in two completely different generations. with that comes different styles of songs, singing, runs etc. if they were both the same age in the same era of music it would be an easier comparison. i heavily believe if ariana was 28 in the 90's, she would produce very similar songs to mariah and hence they would be on par in terms of musicality/wonderful runs/great head voice. despite this, i think they're both the best female singers within that generation, mariah being the best in the 90's and ariana being the best in 2022.

REST!! 1997-1999 is when we needed Restriah? But give Mariah credit for still giving iconic vocal moments and an impeccable tone despite overworked vocal chords.
One last thing... I have yet to hear a singer replicate Mariah's Tone.. But there are plenty of girlies who replicate Ariana's tone pretty well, however, much credit to Ariana for being the current pop singer who is unmatched in belting ease in that arena.
that rasp is definitely intentional
@@radipranaja5763 I agree to a certain extent. Maybe on occasion its intentional and on some it isn't. She could be leaning into it for all we know, unless she herself has stated that she does it intentionally. imo, I think she may benefit from embracing a more naturally raspy tone in her upper belts because now her belts have more emotiveness to them. Ariana grande 🔥
Mariah sound strain above Eb5
Ariana will NEVER top Mariah's vocal prime and Mariah will NEVER top Ariana's vocal longevity. we should respect their choices bc both did an amazing job reaching their goals
*just clarifying, for any grammar or english mistake, english is not my first language

Ariana Grande Vocal Analysis (2024)
Voice type: Light-Lyric Soprano
Vocal range: C3-B5-E7 (4 octaves and 2 notes)
Range with the most consistent quality, comfort, and technique: G3-C#5/D5-A5
At best: F3-F5-C6
Lower register: (7/10)
Low notes are bright and clear and have a good projection up to G3 consistently and F3 at best. Quite surprising for someone with a high tessitura considering her high sitting voice. However, she loses consistency, projection, and becomes airy and weak F3 and below.
Mid-belts and mix: (7.5/10)
Mid belts are surprisingly strong for someone who frequently utilizes a heady mix in her belts.
Upper-belts/mix: (7/10)
As a soprano like her, her ease and control in this area are good.
Upper-register (head voice and falsetto): (7.5/10)
Contrary to popular belief, Ariana utilizes her head voice just as much as she utilizes her falsetto.
Vocal Agility: (7.5/10)
This may be the vocal skill she possess that has consistently improved over the years.
Whistle register: (9.5/10)
One of the best whistle register user in her generation. Able to control her whistle with ease and is also able to create vocal runs and vocal phrases with it.
Vocal Dynamics: (6.5/10)
She has showcased vocal dynamics from time to time where she sang from pianissimo up to fortissimo. This is greatly showcased in her 2023 yours truly 10 year anniversary live performance. However, there are very rare cases of her showcasing crescendo and decresendo.
Vibrato: (10/10)
Her vibrato is one of the most controlled and well-developed that pop music has to offer. It can range from soft/subtle to aggressive/intense and can even shift to it smoothly. This great vibrato is also evident throughout all her register especially in her belts and upper-register.
Vocal transition: (9/10)
Able to easily and smoothly transition between registers from chest to head to whistle and with great control.
Pitch: (8/10)
Her wide vocal range allows her to hit high notes and low notes with good pitch accuracy. She rarely gets off-key and goes sharp/flat.
Vocal stamina: (9/10)
She is able to consistently perform in long periods and still able to maintain a decent to good technique and quality while doing a bunch of adlibs.
Overall: 8.04/10
Overall comment: She is not as bad as critics say she is and also not as great as diehard fans made her out to be.
Mariah Carey Vocal Analysis (prime)
Voice type: Light-Lyric Soprano
Vocal range: G2-A5-Bb7 (5 octaves and 1 note and a semitone )
Range with the most consistent quality, comfort, and technique: F3/F#3-Eb5/E5-G#5
At best: D3-G5-Bb5
I'll make it shorter for Mariah since almost everyone already has the idea of what she's capable of with her vocal technique and skill unlike Ari who's always a victim of inconsistent vocal analysis on the internet...
Low notes: 8.5/10
Mid-belts: 9.5/10
Upper-belts/mix: Eb5-E5 is 8/10 and F5 and above is 6.5/10 despite having a better technique than Ariana, she's prone to inconsistencies in upper-belts and often encounters tension and strain probably due to her chestier approach...
Upper-register(falsetto and head voice): 7/10
Vocal Agility: 10/10
Whistle register: 10/10
Vocal dynamics: 7/10
Vibrato: 10/10
Vocal transition: 9/10
Pitch: 10/10
Vocal stamina: 9/10
Overall: 8.84/10
I think this is an unfair comparison because ariana singing is studio recorded, and mariah carey is unclear live performances so It's harder to hear her, but I've seen Mariah Carey's incredible performances and she will always be my fav
Ariana’s clips are all live, they’re just better quality than Mariah’s obviously because hers were recorded on old cameras
Wow! I actually consider this era of Mariah as one of her worst vocal moments. But I didn't even think that it could still match Ariana, considering that Ari has no vocal issues. Wow, Mariah!
That's bc Ariana has a weaker chest voice. Mariah's voice, even in 1998, still had a solid chest pull with weight.
Butterfly is actually REALLY REALLY GOOD vocally !
@@Sttephy30 Mariah vocals are way more fragile. She sounds like this after doing only 13 shows (Daydream era) compare to Ariana 101 shows.
@@emekajohnson2630 Ariana still has a weak chest voice w/ no weight. Her doing over 200 shows, should've made her chest voice stronger but it hasn't tbh. That's bc Ariana really doesn't sing in full chest, she stays in heady mix, which is what allows her voice to do many shows. Ariana would never be able to sing HEAVY chest.
@@Sttephy30 How would you know? Also listen to her at age 28 compare to Mariah? If not singing chest voice and restraining from belting is preserving her voice then what’s the problem? Mariah vocals are extremely fragile, she has said it herself. I mean, look at her at Ariana age, she sounds a mess and her performances were inconsistent. Ariana technique is working for her, the evidence is right there.
(my opinion on this video)
lows: mariah
mid belts: ariana
upper belts: ariana
head voice: ariana
whistles: mariah
its so hard to compare because these are both gifted women singing songs in two completely different generations. with that comes different styles of songs, singing, runs etc. if they were both the same age in the same era of music it would be an easier comparison. i heavily believe if ariana was 28 in the 90's, she would produce very similar songs to mariah and hence they would be on par in terms of musicality/wonderful runs/great head voice. despite this, i think they're both the best female singers within that generation, mariah being the best in the 90's and ariana being the best in 2022.
If I have to make an objective judgment... I simply can't make an objective judgment... When Ari is involved, I think as an arianator and I always support Ari!
Haven’t watched the video yet lol….but l do however know that Mariah is the BEST!😘😘😘😘 She’s my fave!😘😘
0:30 Ariana’s note there is an E3!!!! not a Bb3
Mariah Carey is a masterclass vocalist and she proved her musicality already throughout her career, on the other hand Ariana is also a great vocalist.. but MC is incomparable! that's it.
Isnt the Bb3 note an E3? I swear it's an E3
love both! period.
2:12 which city?
Not trying to disrespect Ariana since she's also a very talented singer, but Mariah helloooooo...!!!! She's the blueprint for so many female singers that come after her. Without Mariah, there would be no Ariana and that's a FACT!
mc is something else but i like that sweet voice of ari
0:34 - Ariana actually sings an E3 here.
Ughh 1998 was the hardest year for mariah😢 She's been through a lot since 1997. I dunno why but I love mariah raspy tone than ari sound nasal
@@issamoodissavibe i mean about her divorce also about her and jlo feud at that time
@@issamoodissavibe how do you know it was not her big problem.. are you mariah? Her voice drastically changed at that year.. do you know what she's been through?
Ariana sound so rasp like Mariah
You mean she sounds like a rat next to Mariah ? 😂
I think both are good. No comparison needed. Ofc mariah is a legend and ariana is still growing to her prime.
But it’s kinda of annoying because how much production goes in to vocals these days.
Mariah always. 😍
