@@Ananastygirl “Mariah was never” kindly look up the definition of “never”. She was consistent below F#3 hence why she can go all the way down to Bb2 with her tone still clear and present while Tori disappears. The issue is, some of you do not know the difference between actual consistency and techniques that are employed for artistic/stylistic reasons.
@@Gui-mt2wu If you really think that the lower the better, you are mistaken. Vivian Reed for example never went below A2 and she would wipe the floor with Mariah Carey without breaking a sweat lol GOOD projection, clarity and depth >>>>
Something important to note is that Tori Kelly never specifically only imitate Mariah (yes! Mariah was an inspiration for sure) but Tori Kelly had so many other artists that she drew inspiration to create her own unique sound. Stylistically, each artist uses more of their vocal register by style (Mariah enjoys whistles and high belts and Tori enjoys low notes and falsettos). With the amount of skill and sheer dedication to their vocal craft, both could easily be unmatched but we adore these queens for their songs, voice and vocal style, not always for their amount of vocal talent per se (however, that's up to the listener). Also Mariah drew inspiration from the greats before her too, but never wanted to copy them, but be the best version of herself! :)
Tough one, they are both excellent and similar to the fact they can reach healthy lows and healthy highs. Lows: both. Tori was better from D3 to B2 though. Belts: both up to D5. Mariah was excellent up to F5/F#5 since the beginning of her career. Tori was only up to D5, becoming inconsistent past that. Nowadays, she has developed her technique to reach higher and better, but 90-96 Mariah is still better. Tori for head voice. Prime Mariah for whistle register. Currently Tori is a tie.
Another great match up (although it has been done plenty it is still a great one). Its like mother and daughter, they're styles have so many similiariries. You can definitely hear Mariahs influence in Tori vocal. It makes for a great comparison. Anyway, basing my opinion purely on these clips. Tori wins for on the lows as she is has better consistency throughout, decent ease and tonal quality and is able to maintain that throughout most of her lower range (b2 and bb2 were clearly just a bit too low imo, so they werent very audible) whereas, mariah does not have great consistency or control in this part of her voice and the tonal quality is not great due to it being mostly air and not having great vocal fold closure. We can clearly tell she has a naturally ability to go low but doesnt necessarily have the technical prowess to have control, ease tomal quality to more than an okay standard. Occasionally there are some better moments (the eb3 and d3 were her best here) but these are overshadowed by tori's being really great to an e3 and maintaining a good standard on every note down to the c3. So in my opinion, Tori's clips show a better technical approach to the lower range. The belts were a bit closer. Both gave superb mid belts with very similar approach, but the upper belts are have a bit more variation to them. Tori has better ease, control and sustainability than Mariah, but mariah has better tonal quality and resonance. Tori can becoming a bit contrained at time making the sound a little tight and mariah pulls a lot of weight into it making it a bit pushed and putting extra pressure on the voice (which due to its exhaustive nature makes it harder to maintain). I'm leaning more toward Tori here mainly because I feel that her technique here is more sustainable in the long run, and she has more ease so is able to do more and stay there for longer. So overall, I'm gonna give the belt to Tori but i can definitely understand why soneone would prefer Mariahs. Head voice. Mariah has very poor consistency, its extremely airy (even in falsetto its surprising how breathy it is) and I'm not sure if that's stylistic, but considering the loss of control at times and just generally how weak the sound is i doubt stylistic. I'm trying to think of nicer things to say but im struggling which kinda says everything, so im just gonna lace that there. Tori's has decent consistency, although the tonal quality, control and support could do with work. And she demontrates decent control. Nothing super amazing but pretty decent. So tori wins here. Mariah wins the whistle hands down. Her control over the whistle is unparalleled. The tonal quality, being able to phrase there, the agility, its unbelievably impressive. Tori is really great this register but she does not have the same level of consistency, control, or just general mastery that mariah has achieved here. So yeah mariah on the whistle. So overall, for me, Tori has the better technique, but obviously, they're both world class at what they do.
Thank you so much for this, been waiting to watch it while doing my plates. Btw I found one fail video for Tori. Do you still need it? Sorry it took more time to find one, I’m bad at determining flats and sharps not unless they’re too obvious.
My only problem with TK is her nasal tone. Her riffs are STELLAR, her agility is really impressive and she sings with so much ease it’s outrageous. But I can’t quite appreciate the nasality in her voice. It’s like a watered-down version of Kristin Chenoweth 😵💫
u guys are always complaining, back then on 2015-2018, tori's voice was so dark & chesty, in 2019-2021, she was into that nasally tone for gaining ease, nowadays she sounds great, the vocal sounds rounded & light at the same time
This video is about vocal skill butttt Preference wise, Mariah’s tonal quality wins out, Her timbre, tonality and musicality for me is head and shoulders above Tori, Again that’s just preference! Both are vocal queens! Great video!
Mariah Carey BY FAR. Superior vocal and musical talent. Not only is her sound production much more optimal, she's also a far more intelligent vocal musician.
Correct me if I’m wrong but to y’all saying they’re tied in upper belts… I have NEVER seen Tori Kelly support a belt above Eb5/E5 live… Mariah has supported up to G5. Not only that but the quality of Mariah’s upper belts are MUCH thicker and she can ACTUALLY resonate extraordinarily well in them, something Tori can’t rlly do. So the only reason yall put Tori above Mariah for upper belts is because she has gone above G5 live multiple times (which Mariah doesn’t rlly do) yet all of those notes are almost ALWAYS strained… Same for agility, they might be on par in terms of riffs and runs but agility isn’t JUST riffs and runs, ya’ll forget transitions & register flips, staccato, and all these other things also are in the agility department, to which Mariah IS superior at.
@BaddieRiah Y'all and this word "support"....💀💀💀 Tori has more ease in her upper belts than Mariah. Mariah does not has ACTUAL resonance in her upper belts, and she is NOT the queen of F#5s. Tori is actually the queen of F#5s. Mariah can't even sustain an F#5 belt for her life.💀💀💀 Tori has WAYYY more ease in sustaining upper belts.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ And she has more ease now due to lightening her belts, something that Mariah couldn't do.🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Mariah's upper notes are actually belted (M1), it peaked in 1994. Those are COREFUL upper belts. But I think the safer way to do those high notes are thru the M2 mix or mask. Tori be sounding like she singing thru her nose). Head Voice: Both are weak, but Tori wins. Mariah wins overall, bc at her vocal peak. Her voice created far more COREFUL resonance, richness & depth. It's not about range it's about the RICHNESS and DEPTH of the voice quality. Tori is a GREAT singer tho. Agility is tie. Mariah's agility (at her best) was very coreful. You can really hear the influence that Mariah has on Tori's voice its insane. Obviously Mariah is better, imo, but i see and hear a lot of Mariah in Tori.
Here is my opinion:
Lower register:Tori
Mid-belts:Tie
Upper belts: Tori (Unpopular opinion: Tori has more ease on her upper belts and she is the actual queen of F#5 belts)
Head voice: Tori
Whistle Tone: Mariah:
Vocal Agility:Tie
I agree with this!
*Lower Register:* Tie, Tori completely disappears around C3 and that Bb2 had no tone.
*Mid-Belts:* Tie
*Upper belts:* Mariah (Tori’s upper belts have improved but her best upper belts still pale in comparison with Mariah)
*Head Voice:* Tie (the weakest part of both of their voices)
*Vocal agility:* Mariah (Tori has excellent riffs and runs but I have yet to see her do extraordinary transitions between registers, staccato etc.) countless octave jumps live on stage etc.
@@GarageStudio7 Mariah was never consistent below F#3 lol she only started to "improve" after her voice dropped. Tori is better in the lower register
See now this is the most accurate one that I’ve seen and actually agree with!!
Lows: Mariah
Mid: tie
Upper: Mariah
Head voice : tie
Whistle: Mariah
Agility: Mariah (almost tie)
Mariah lows are overrated, Tori is way better
@ Tori after Eb3 is just air and it’s barely audible, Mariah can go down the F2 so she is way better
@@Gui-mt2wu that's not how it works lol
@@Gui-mt2wu If you really think that the lower the better, you are mistaken. Vivian Reed for example never went below A2 and she would wipe the floor with Mariah Carey without breaking a sweat lol GOOD projection, clarity and depth >>>>
@@Gui-mt2wuand Mariah isn’t airy???
mariah has done more falsetto than anything else in her voice lmao
i said this in another comment but i think tori draws more inspiration from xtina
I love them both
Tough one, they are both excellent and similar to the fact they can reach healthy lows and healthy highs.
Send this to The Honest Vocal Coach finally a fair video for both singers lol
Omg I agree! I love the honest vocal coach.
All I'm gonna say is, I hope when it comes to a biography, they better choose Tori Kelly to play Mariah.
Mariah Was A Great Vocalist, now is a great lypsinger 💋
Thank you so much for this, been waiting to watch it while doing my plates. Btw I found one fail video for Tori. Do you still need it? Sorry it took more time to find one, I’m bad at determining flats and sharps not unless they’re too obvious.
Yesssss, can you link me? Is fine don't worry!
My only problem with TK is her nasal tone. Her riffs are STELLAR, her agility is really impressive and she sings with so much ease it’s outrageous. But I can’t quite appreciate the nasality in her voice. It’s like a watered-down version of Kristin Chenoweth 😵💫
u guys are always complaining, back then on 2015-2018, tori's voice was so dark & chesty, in 2019-2021, she was into that nasally tone for gaining ease, nowadays she sounds great, the vocal sounds rounded & light at the same time
@@danjulianoIts just biasness at this point
@@grandeflamesbutera3949 Right. They be using that to degrade our queens.
Tori is the only person to come close to Mariah vocally, if anyone it’s gotta be her doing the biopic
Mariah all day. Her range, tone is so soothing.
Mariah can't even sustain an F#5 belt for her life.💀💀💀 Tori has WAYYY more ease in sustaining upper belts.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ And she has more ease now due to lightening her belts, something that Mariah couldn't do.🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Mariah was never consistent above Eb5 in her prime...

@JesseAtataAre you serious?!💀💀💀 Mariah has never been consistent above Eb5 in her prime even in the Daydream era when she has ease in her upper belts.
Para mí gusto prefiero a Tori Kelly😂❤🎉 la amo
Lows: Tori (I prefer Mariah's lows tho. She can create a very masculine sound down there, especially on GMA 1990. But Tori I suppose are "safer" lows)
Mids: Mariah (Tori's are too thin and whinny, sounds like somebody is pinching her nose. Mariah's mid belts had far more CORE, and foundation, especially in 1994).
Uppers: TIE but not really... Mariah wins tbh (Tori's are more effortless, but NOT from the CORE... It's mostly mixed in M2.
Tori's best agility is mostly in the mix or heady mix. Tori's more smooth, but Mariah's more foundational. I'd say tie.
@Sttephy30 I'm sorry, but heady mix doesn't exist. Plus, Tori Kelly is belting 80% of the time.
@ She’s not really belting. Most of her uppers are in M2
@@Sttephy30 She is mostly belting her upper 5th octave.💀💀💀
@ No, she’s mixing, heavily. Those uppers have little to no core attached. They’re clearly in M2. It’s the same thing Ariana Grande does.
@Sttephy30 You clearly don't know Tori's technique.💀💀💀 Tori is a full belter, and she only use mixed voice above G#5.
On tone alone Mariah wins. But kelly is great too.
