It's been a wild couple decades for sure in the MOPAR world, a few bright spots here and there but definitely a lot of ... not so bright. The whole build things people want and can afford thing is just so natural to me, makes you wonder why none of them care to anymore. How is this thing that's so obvious to ALL of us, not obvious to them?
Had a slew of Chrysler badged products. Now on my third Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn pickup. Love them. Current 2020 BRD as I call it which stands for Big Red Dodge pulled my race car and trailer all around hells half acre without a complaint. The true test as I have stated before was the 7 mile pull up Fancy Gap mountain while maintaining 70 MPH fully loaded trailer and all. I actually had a 1979 Dodge "Ho"-rizon TC3 four speed! Not a bad car after I modified the suspension, there was no help for the "Rabbit" engine. Had a Dodge Daytona Shelby turbo which was a fast car for a 2.2 Liter four banger. Next was a Dodge Shadow five speed with the Mitsubishi 5.0 Engine. Very quick car but rusted easily. Embarrassed a few Moosetwangs off the line. When I went vintage road racing I bought my first of three trucks. I agree, they have not made any exciting affordable cars in a long time. The Eye-ti's pooched it.
It's crazy to see just how far things have fallen, and how absolutely insane pricing has become on just regular old I want to do some work in my work truck pickup trucks. With the death of the Hemi, the only thing is holding the Dodge truck, excuse me RAM trucks in their place is Cummins. And talk about a premium price! YIKES! The little 2.2 turbo could definitely put in some work for what it was back in the day, highly considered putting some effort into making the one in the GLHS something fun, but it's so far out of the normal market right now, it just doesn't make sense. Wouldn't it be nice if the people who built stuff paid attention to the people who bought stuff?
Austin for the new Stellantis CEO! My next door neighbor has an AMX and a Gremlin. I had two Chrysler Dodge products in the 80's and both fell apart after three years, a 2.2 Turismo and VW powered Dodge Omni two door hatchback. A friend had a Charger GLH and it was fast and fun to drive. Dodge Chysler always had nice styling with fair prices but their quality was bad. People bought them because they were cheaper than a GM or Ford. Stellantis comes in a raises the prices a lot and now they have no advantage over GM or Ford. They have lost their way.
I have daid many times as a corner marshal for SCCA and track day events since 2015 i have only seen two Challengers on track. One was in a Trans- Am race at Daytina the other was an SCCA club race this year. I have never seen one at any track day event i have worked.
Even their T/A car was no where near capable for any actual track use. Way too big, way too heavy, horrible in the turns, horrible with visibility... what's wild is even in drag racing / no prep racing you see very very few of these cars in competition. Which is crazy for a family of brands that had incredible generations of automotive motorsports.
Yessir! I totally agree! Let's All' make our builder's bring back the dependable car ". How about the new Ford Capri that's supposedly coming back for 2024 40,000$ Bologna it's Too much! Make them like they were when they were made! Affordable! To the consumer person
Even worse the "New Ford Capri" is a crossover built by VW with a Ford badge on it! Ummmm WHAT?! True insanity. American Automotive Manufacturers have lost all attachment to the market and what people are actually interested in buying/owning
It's amazing how literally the entire industry has these giant blinders on about such a simple thing. If you don't build ANYTHING people with purchasing power want to buy, why in the world would you be surprised when no one buys your stuff? I don't need parking assist, and lane assist, and automatic this or robot that. I need a decent fun attractive car that won't need a PHD to work on and won't cost me almost a mortgage payment to own!
The owners of Stellantis are oblivious to the American car culture, and they are also probably timid as to what to do because the U. S. govt. seem to be pushing the demise of the ICE in favor of electric BS. I do, however, agree with your solution.
I don’t pretend to have all (or any) of the answers, but I feel like the problem is, most “enthusiasts” have cars that they didn’t buy new. You listed what, 3 mopars you have right now, none of which you bought new. There are a boatload of folks out there today who would love a demon or a scat pack charger, after they’ve got some mileage on them and the depreciation peels off. The market for selling brand new performance vehicles is very narrow in this economy, but the 2nd/3rd owners and beyond are out there.. doesn’t help if you can’t move them when they’re new. Majority of enthusiasts I’d say have families to haul around and feed, they’ve probably already got some type of suv/crossover and most of us in our areas (oh/ky) are going to have a truck too. Parting with 55-75k for a fun extra vehicle isn’t in many people’s budget these days. On the AMC thing, I’m with ya, but you and I are about the same age, and we’re in the minority of folks with a fondness for the AMC brand/history. Most older folks who were consumers through AMC’s heyday are either khaki shorts with white knee sock wearing corvette buyers or are already long gone. I can’t see (many) folks in their 20’s and 30’s getting excited about an AMC comeback and rushing out to buy them but maybe I’m way off. “RAM” was a dumb move. No Hemi, dumb move. Chrysler’s “cool” wore off decades ago. Why do you hold that and hang up the Dodge truck name? Sounds like the patients are running the asylum inside Stellantis.
I thought it was a joke at first. But you’re right. Look at the weird following of the pacer. They could make a newer version. Hell could even be a hybrid. Have a Wayne’s world edition. OR bring back the Ramcharger. Like full on 2 door suv with a truck chassis. Give it a hemi or somthing of equal.
The BEST jokes are the ones built on some kind of basis of truth, and there's a whole lot that makes sense to this thinking! Excellent point on the Pacer, make it a fight simple useful hatchback. I would LOVE to see a new Ramcharger for sure especially to try and compete with the Bronco that has come back to life (let's not talk about the new Blazer)
The one car everyone wants to see Stellantis bring into reality that Dodge has been saying it will happen is the Dodge Tomahawk. That , AMC’s revival , and getting Chrysler to finally let go of the Pacifica (and bringing back the crossfire) will bring Stellantis American market share up.
There are SO many easy "wins" in this that it really makes you wonder how can they not see this stuff? Are WE just all wrong and don't know what we're talking about?
As a MOPAR guy I can say without reservation that if I were in the market for a new car right now there is nothing that would draw me to a Stellantis product. Not one vehicle that I would be interested in
I totally agree with you and understand the feeling, I'm in the exact some boat. Even when I go to the dealership (to buy parts) I don't even bother looking at the stuff sitting around the showroom or on the lot. There's not a tire I would kick. @@buelliganx1 it's a heck of a change over the last couple decades for sure, to be honest though, the MOPAR world is probably suffering more from that than the other big 3. It does indeed but I think what's really cost him his job is the total lack of success in the American market. As THE place to succeed in, playing 3rd fiddle and not even really understanding what's going on isn't a great position to be in. Europeans are buying cars from all sorts of brands, Americans... aren't. And definitely not from Stellantis
HOW we don't have more TRUE light trucks in this country is absolutely beyond me. How many MILLIONS of S10 / Ranger / Dakota trucks were sold to service this market, and now there's basically nothing short of $40k!? Truly nuts. I'm actually a fan of the Chrysler 300, even if it is just a rebadged comfy Charger. But let Chrysler die, agreed on the Dodge Caravan, make the Hornet a fun affordable car, and bring me back a USEFUL enjoyable possibly motorsports ready pony/muscle car!
@@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin Not to mention the Ranchero and El Camino utes. Maverick and Santa Cruse and Ridgeline are selling well. Automakers killed the old ranger and S-10 because they wanted the higher profits of full size pickups.
@@chuckschultz7028 the Santa Cruise I think is the 1000% proof that there is a need/desire for small useful utility trucks and that we DON'T all need/want something the size/cost of a modern F150... which is consequently the side of an older gen F250-F350 essentially. Bring back The Little Red Express Truck & Dodge Ram Charger. Oh and the Dodge Raider....
I’d really like to see a line up of reasonable cars that run from $20,000 to $40,000. Bring back standard transmissions, bring back the stripper models.
Dodge needs get rid of the HEMI and bring back an updated version of the 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum. The Gen3 Hemis architecture promotes self destruction. They need to bring back the late 80's early 90's Dodge Daytona and make it rear wheel drive and use the Daytona moniker. Keep the Cummins Turbo Diesel and make it stronger and solve the number 6 cylinder cooling issue. Bring back MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. Bring back the AWD Eagle Talon.
very nice video,as far as im concerned that idiot out the door couldnt happen soon enough,no doubt they need to start building cars people want. That new charger is a cool looking car but its not going to sell as a ev or with pos hurricane motor
It boggles my mind how they could imagine gutting their flagship cars of THE thing that motivates most their buyers... it's just wild. Like, HOW did this get through the decision making process!?
If you want pek and feathers say that name over here(europe) do not know there origins. If its usa and tryed to get a foot between the door they did. Lucky that we are not allowed to carry guns. I hate.... who come here, wreck our industry and bail out.
It appears to me that Stellantis came on to run Dodge into the ground, intentionally... If they want to revive the company they need a Roadrunner. Not so much the muscle car with a big engine, but something simple, inexpensive, with the ability to NOT get all the bells and whistles. Make them affordable in the world of $80,000 bare bones 2wd Silverados. Like the exact opposite of what GM did with the GTO in 04-06, which they turned into an expensive luxury car targeting the BMW drivers who would NEVER buy a Holden no matter what badges you put on it. Sell a cheap V8 truck that can pull trailers and haul stuff, without the leather interiors and screens plastered everywhere inside it. You know, like chevy used to do with the square body and OBS. Give it towing capacity and enough power to drag trailers up mountains, without the huge price tag. All of them are too damn greedy, wanting to sell vehicles for lots of money with hugely marked up crap that nobody really wants or needs. They think luxury cars are the way to go, which leaves all the young people out of the market. The GTO was a big thing because they put a big engine in a somewhat light car, then they made it heavier and milked it until they ended production in 74. Young people like performance, but they need to be able to afford it. 700hp with 4500lbs to haul around, yeah its no wonder people steam then burn the tires off them. Especially now with the buying power of the dollar being trash, young people can't even buy used stuff anymore. There is no way most of them can afford a new vehicle. If Freightliner actually makes an $8000 pickup like I have heard about, I will buy one. I'd probably put my own V8 in it if they don't come with one, so I can pull trailers with it. I will not buy a $60k pickup that has less use and towing capacity than the rusty junk I can buy for $500 and rebuild for $1500.
While it IS a little tongue in cheek, I'll be honest the idea of bringing AMC back to handle some of the more budget friendly and FUN models, it really actually DOES make some good sense.
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin yeah trust me I've 100% been on your thought train since just before I could drive but still knew about the car game. 1 would definitely think this is just the natural way of thinking but apparently we are just in the wrong generation for stuff and thought process. Everywhere I look I see vehicles just sitting there waiting to be bought up. They also need to get back into the vibrant and different color scheme on even their entry levels vehicles. It's just the simplest of changes that would draw in the right crowd to boost sales and MAKE MOPAR GREAT AGAIN. Even me I've told my wife that even if I could afford the high dollar stuff I have no desire to buy it. Gimme sumtin from the 90s and 00s over this newer mundane cookie cutter stuff

You're rowing the same boat I am! AND heck yes on the Magnum Wagon, but there better be a damn SRT option for it thats RWD!
All of the above!
I’d really like to see a line up of reasonable cars that run from $20,000 to $40,000. Bring back standard transmissions, bring back the stripper models.
1000% yes, bring back reasonable cars (and trucks) at reasonable prices without piles of options I don't need, don't want, and won't use!
@ yes, bring back non humongous pickups! Square body chevys, standard cab size!
Bring back the AMC Gremlin!!
Right!? Tell me something like that wouldn't sell well against something like a Honda Civic!
He didnt resign he was fired
There's a fine line between these things in the modern world ;)
very nice video,as far as im concerned that idiot out the door couldnt happen soon enough,no doubt they need to start building cars people want. That new charger is a cool looking car but its not going to sell as a ev or with pos hurricane motor
It boggles my mind how they could imagine gutting their flagship cars of THE thing that motivates most their buyers... it's just wild. Like, HOW did this get through the decision making process!?
Brad k won a nascar championship in a dodge charger. But your rt there really not known for round races
Uh huh... and how much MOPAR is in that Nascar Charger? ;)
Thay won't fix nothing on thier new ones
There's a whole host of other deeper issues to talk about for sure, but I wanted to keep THIS video pretty ... lite
No more madador
Hey I don't care what they call it, just build something!
Cool😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅?
Thanks for not calling me cool not crazy Terry! :)
If you want pek and feathers say that name over here(europe) do not know there origins. If its usa and tryed to get a foot between the door they did. Lucky that we are not allowed to carry guns.
I hate.... who come here, wreck our industry and bail out.
Funny!!!! He did the same thing as Joe Biden!!! NO I ain't stepping down!!!! And then steps down!!! Lol
Never underestimate the power of the Switcharoo! ;)
@AutomotiveAdventuresWithAustin ROFLMFAO!!!!!! THATS TRUE!!!!
AMC can. Make truck's people would buy
While it IS a little tongue in cheek, I'll be honest the idea of bringing AMC back to handle some of the more budget friendly and FUN models, it really actually DOES make some good sense.
They make there on parts to and don't use other people's parts
