Quite the necro... but a great question none the less. There is some news out there re: the 293(US import) and 243 variants, but not a lot. You can buy a Walther/Umarex .22LR version without the tactical stock (still folding, just not adjustable), but I heard from the Walther USA folks that they were no longer supporting the HK reproductions (so if you are interested get it while you can). I love the platform, but politics being what they are I'm not holding out hope for owning one any time soon.

I'm really looking forward to this rifle coming to the US. I'm glad that they have 2 configurations to choose from, but I admittedly don't understand their choices. IMO both configurations should include a flash hider and rail with flip up sights (not fixed ones. I don't think anyone is buying a G36 to use the iron sights). And the stock on the standard model should include a cheek piece and probably be the short version since I hear that the long one is really *too* long and uncomfortable.
The way it is, probably every person who buys one will want to make basic changes like that just to bring it up to a configuration that's more on par with other rifles, and that will make its total price be higher than it should, so I wonder if that will hurt sales.
Hopefully all the parts will be available separately to make those changes though, for those of us who are willing to pay the extra cash because we really like the platform.
I was referring to the stock being long, not the rifle itself. It's just what I've heard, and I have to admit that it looks long in the photos. If this thing ever comes to the US then I will probably replace the stock with a short C one or a collapsible one.
As for price, I think there's good news. I've checked out the price on German sites and when you convert to US dollars and compare the fact that the MR556 is actually cheaper in the US than in Germany, then the price we should expect the HK243 basic version to be is about $2,000. It'll of course cost a little more total than that because I'll buy a different rail, more magazines, and add a flash hider.
I hope I like the long skeleton stock too because then I wouldn't have to spend money to replace it. I got the chance to shoot a genuine full auto G36C before and the short stock felt perfect so idk how I will feel about the longer one.
I love the polymer handguards so I will definitely keep that though. I figure that if I ever want rails then I can just attach them. The polymer handguard can have rails attached I believe, like the Bushmaster ACR. In fact I am very sure that the designers of the ACR copied multiple core concepts from the G36. The grip and trigger guard look identical to the G36's; the handguard is polymer and the same overall shape and attaches the same way; the handguard has attachment points for rails.
Personally I wasn't a fan of the Hensoldt dual optic. It looks cool as hell, but the optics themselves aren't very high quality (since they were made to be cheaply produced for foot soldiers). I noticed that the German army is replacing the red dot with a much nicer one with a larger lens and brighter dot on their rifles (and they seem to be phasing in the Zeiss ZO 4x scope to replace the normal carry handle optic altogether), and German special forces and a lot of the countries that buy the G36 use Aimpoint optics or EOTechs instead because they are such quality optics. So I will probably go for either an Aimpoint, EOTech or Zeiss ZO if I can get one. It's all about personal preference though. No use in using an optic that doesn't fit what you want.
I just want the HK243 to get released finally! It's mouth-watering looking at the rifles on the Hk site and the huge list of different parts and mags (like the new ones without the couplers) etc that you can use with it.

That said, I don't think it's HK's fault. It's various US and German laws iirc that prevent them from being able to export them to us.
