I just installed my GX AXS. A big thanks to everyone who shelled out the big $$$ for the pricier models so that I could get the more affordable model that performs just as well!
There were many rumors that the XX1 and X01 use a ceramic bearings and the GX uses steel bearings. SRAM has confirmed that to be false. They all use steel bearings. They are completely identical products with the exception the cage. The GX pulleys bolt in from the back for a cleaner look. Remember, the GX is a newer product that fixes small bugs and issues that were previously on the X01 and XX1.
@@kentao4 GX is $409 on some websites now. Yeah I did read that somewhere. But I can’t imagine the GX won’t last me plenty. I usually ride 12-15 miles a week. Also, check your hanger alignment!!!!! I love the GX. Super fast smooth shifting.
Mixed feelings... at first I felt cheated for getting a new bike with X01 AXS just 2 weeks ago. But on the bright side, now I have a cheaper backup plan for when I smash that X01 derailleur on a rock or something :D
Thanks for the great comparison video! Can you do a comparison between the standard GX and the GX AXS? I’m curious how they each perform in comparison to each other and also which GX configuration is lighter.
Great explanation.. I'll wait for the version with "All" the bells and whistles. Cadence, distance, speed, ect...Able to operate with different cassettes.
Currently, I changed drive train from shimano xt to sram gx eagle. SRAM gx is really better than shimano xt. I hope to use gx wireless within five years...
GX axs derailleur looks like they used the nx eagle cage. NX has the same bolts. They make them thread in the opposite side so you cant replace your cage to upgrade to a better derailleur. Edit. After looking closely the cage is different, but it appears the GX axs derailleur is the same quality as the nx non axs derailleur. While GX eagle AXS is a step up in shift performance, it's a step down from the non axs derialleur in terms of build quality.
Owned GX for a year. Bought XX1 today. Weight difference is negligible. The motor sounds different on the upshifts to easy gear. The fit and finish are clearly nicer on the XX1. Hopefully the carbon outer cage will hold up against flying debris. Swapped out the XX1 controller’s silver mounting piece for the GX’s all black. Selling GX soon. Oh yeah, replaced titanium hardware with oil slick Better Bolts. Bike was full GX drivetrain a year ago. Slowly upgraded to full XX1 today. However chainring is Absolute Black. I ride XC.
@@bmzinga The $ difference doesn’t justify going with XX1 unless you’re a weight weenie. Both GX AXS and XX1 AXS shift well. But personally I prefer XO1 mechanical. I love how robust and durable it is and it can shift under load without having to adjust cadence.
I have just installed x01 axs it shifts fast and smooth but I don't really like the feel of it. I am getting thumb fatigue after one hour of riding with the asx... And I am coming from nx rear derailleur paired with SX shifter.
if you really want the best bang for the buck, you can get the gx axs and change the cage with the one made by ratio technology, that nearly matches the weight of the xx1, for a lot less money
Sram say xx1 axs has ceramic bearings in its pulleys BUT someone on the MTB forum took the bearing covers off to check and what they found is that only the blue pulley bearing actually has ceramic ball inside it and it only has 1 of them and the rest are not ceramic. So, I guess if you just fit 1 single ceramic ball you can then get away with saying the bearings are ceramic.
looking at the sram documentation and the ethirteen site, it looks like this sould be a no compromises range upgrade. the differences of teeth should not result in an noticible shifting difference for the rd side of things. and the main purpose of the helix seems to be replacing the sram casettes.
Yes. I am running a hybrid "mullet" drivetrain on my monstercross bike. Rear derrailuer is AXS X01, SRAM Force Brifters, cassette is e*13 helix 12sp 9-50t, Guarbaruk 12 sp 1x chainring 42t And a KMC DLC 12sp chain. It runs quiet, shifts like butter, offers redonkulous range for all road/trail conditions.
Two weeks ago on Saturday they reckon they were to busy to fit one (expensive model r-about £950) I was disappointed, not now with the money I've saved might have dropper post done as well. I can't believe seven months ago I was on the verge of giving up cycling because off bad motorcycle accident (broken neck resulting in nerve damage, left elbow broken like jigsaw puzzle ,two steel rods and steel plate in pelvis bleeding in me noggin intensive care trauma ward 53day's, has left me no memory of what happened obviously some pain desperate enough to consider ending it bla bla etcetera. Then I got a Focus jam emtb it's been my it's given me something to Focus on. I'm 68 now going on 16yr with plenty of plans next one get that money saving gear changer, maybe get one for the cube hard tail that's mysterious who would give up the E bike? I'd make a deal at the crossroads with the devil for my soul to ride hard earn respect no matter what when and ho
I bet this stuff is great, but I would prefer something that doesn't need to be charged, and more reliable. Something mechanical. Like a cable actuated derailleur or something. Jokes aside electronic shifting will start making sense when it becomes also automatic.
Does anyone’s gx, xo1 or XX1 have micro adjust? My gx axs doesn’t. SRAM said they were coming out with in the next app update but that was over a year ago. I just want to know if the XO1 of XX1 has micro adjust because the GX doesn’t.
Did you figure out the micro adjust? My gx, all you do is hold the sync button on the shifter, press the shifter the way you want to adjust it, super easy
The GX is known to have a weak clutch. Pinkbike talked about it during their latest endure bike comparison. I think If you really want to do a fair comparison you need to put each one on a bike and do a drop test.
How is it the charger cost $45? That is just stupid expensive. When is someone going to make one of these in the aftermarket for 15 bucks? Even the price of the battery is silly.
V interesting. Outrageous that sram dont include the battery cover on the higher groups, and more that they charge £20 for it. They add it as even the pros were taping batteries on to keep secure. Equally outrageous to charge 50 more for same shifter without painted cover. They are taking the mickey... include the battery cover and make the shifters one price SRAM...! Come on, be better to people that that pricing and battery cover bs.
The Eagle AXS derailleur is HIGHLY PRONE TO DAMAGE. It sticks out too far and if you set your bike on the ground it may pivot on the derailleur and damage the pins and rivets which permanently ruins the shifting quality and your pricey part. I had this happen and ZERO help from SRAM after 2 rides!!!!

Yes. Cool as shit. I just installed a GX AXS. Super easy install and set up. Love it so far. Got it for $430

Best info and comparison I've seen so far
November 2022 got a GX AXS for $430 🤘🏼✌🏼 loving it so far. Super easy install and set up.
Debating this vs paying the 600 for x01. Apparently the longevity between the two is a thing? Did you look into that? I can’t decide!

Actually you can get Rocker paddle shifter in X01/XX1 version, or you can just upgrade every AXS shifter version with new paddle.
I've changed 12s SRAM mechs to Shimano 11s XT on both of my bikes, the best MTB mechs ...
@3:45...that’s called the “break edge”-it’s where the stamping die actually breaks the metal in shear.
Great explanation.. I'll wait for the version with "All" the bells and whistles. Cadence, distance, speed, ect...Able to operate with different cassettes.
Thanks for the great vid. Very informative and money saving information for me at least. Keep it up and happy trials.
The GX cage looks like a stamped and bent (probably in one operation) part.
Great video my friend exactly what I was looking for thank you
Nice overview of them...
Currently, I changed drive train from shimano xt to sram gx eagle. SRAM gx is really better than shimano xt. I hope to use gx wireless within five years...
Thank you - Just want to double check if the xx1 is using ceramic bearings? Some articales says no.
I wish i saw this video before going to the X01 Upgrade $200 diff
Thanks, great overview.
Hey Good Review I enjoy that.
Here’s small question - Does the Axs Battery Cover leave scratches on the derailleur?
No it doesn’t, mine at least.

Thanks for comparison! Just bought the GX AXS Upgrade Kit. What's a few grams compared to the 24kg of my new Turbo Levo... 😀
Do you have mircoadjust? Mine doesn’t. It’s making me kind of upset that mine doesn’t
@@cashanderson6521 I have not had to use it but to my understanding all AXS comes with micro adjust.

if you really want the best bang for the buck, you can get the gx axs and change the cage with the one made by ratio technology, that nearly matches the weight of the xx1, for a lot less money
Tip: buy gx axs + replace cage to aluminum from regular gx cage = weight profit!
The mounting plate for the cage to the body is also different from the mechanical derailleurs.

Can I use a 10-36 sram cassette with the GX AXS System? thanks for your help .
Is it possible to use a different brand casette with axs? Like the ethirteen helix 12 speed casette with gx wireless parts
looking at the sram documentation and the ethirteen site, it looks like this sould be a no compromises range upgrade. the differences of teeth should not result in an noticible shifting difference for the rd side of things. and the main purpose of the helix seems to be replacing the sram casettes.
Don't see why not. if it works with standard eagle, it should with the wireless. I run the e13 helix as well so we will see.
Yes.

Awesome video! Now thanks SRAM for coming up with basically same cheaper stuff while I just purchased a XX1 group. :(
I like how you put a sad emoji after xx1 group. I mean rnt u happy u have xx1. Isn’t it a great drivetrain
Same for me, just bought X01 AXS, but I don't regret a bit.
Could you upgrade the pulley wheels on the GX for the X01s?

I think no need to buy expamcive one
For what?
If will damage it and u are not pro rider
U will pay for fix or new one againe
So GX is best
Hi seems like a silly question but can you upgrade just a cage?
I heard there was a 5g weight difference between controllers/shifters for XX1/x01 and gx?
Nope. They all weigh 68 grams.
I bet this stuff is great, but I would prefer something that doesn't need to be charged, and more reliable. Something mechanical. Like a cable actuated derailleur or something.
Jokes aside electronic shifting will start making sense when it becomes also automatic.
How does the clutch on the GX compare to Rival XPLR? Is it the same spring design?
20 years ago it was the same equation... So what is new?
Did the guy just say you can pull in a battery from a front derailleur ?
Is the XX1 AXS derailleur lunar grey color or completely blacked out?
Does anyone’s gx, xo1 or XX1 have micro adjust? My gx axs doesn’t. SRAM said they were coming out with in the next app update but that was over a year ago. I just want to know if the XO1 of XX1 has micro adjust because the GX doesn’t.

Can it operate at -20 F for fat biking
Shifter battery life up to 2 years, I bought the gx axs kit 2 days ago and the shifter battery was flat 😂😂🙈
same here... hmmmmm.. but that's according to my phone app.. but it still shifts

How is it the charger cost $45? That is just stupid expensive. When is someone going to make one of these in the aftermarket for 15 bucks? Even the price of the battery is silly.
Mountain biking is expensive, I suggest another activity for you lol
With my gx I have a problem pedaling back... On 50 fall down, chain lenght...??!? do you think this system can solve this question?
probably have to replace the chain. Too stretched
"Same shifting performance across GX,X01 and XX1" Yet people buy a $700 XX1 derailleur that has material taken off versus GX.
Can you use a Shimano cassette with this set?
I work in a bike shop and we built up a bike just the other day that uses GX AXS with a Shimano XT cassette. Everything works just fine surprisingly 👍
Just make sure to stick w the Shimano chain lol
Can you upgrade NX to GX Eagle AXS?
Different driver and cassette size on nx, iirc.
GX Eagle AXS is compatible with NX
