I have a Suvgun for maybe three or more years and still love it. I like the longer distance between the tank and the front of the torch so I can get the flames down to were the charcoal is in my Green Egg. The only problem I had with the Suvgun is it doesn't stand on its own. But it does have a ring on the back that I just hook to the bottom of my side table with a J hook.
I feel like this was as deliberate as it was dramatic. If you have already decided your opinion before you start comparing... you'll find out that your right. Every time.
I’d like to see a comparison that would include the $20 Harbor Freight sear gun vs the $100 Sear Pro vs the $180 GrillBlazer. For most users cost is the first consideration. Great video. As a SearPro user I thought your conclusions were mostly fair but your reluctance and refusal to use the SearPro to light charcoal was absurd.

Lighting a grill with the sear pro really isn't an issue. The flame is long enough where there really isn't a concern with the propane tank getting to close

Testing something by using it in a way that the product labeling and warning labels and manual tell you EXPLICITLY not to use it is bizarre. Oh, gee, it's dangerous to do what they practically scream at you all over the packaging not to do. I thought that as soon as he said he "had a great relationship" with the other product the fix was in.
While I feel what you're saying about comfort @ 2:06 I think that might only be an issue if you were going to be holding it straight ahead. I mean you're going to be aiming down at the grill to begin with so that means you're fighting the weight of the Su-V gun instead of using the weight like the searpro. Just my thoughts though.
Hey there. Honestly it's like a well balanced knife. It just balances in your hand - you're not really pushing or pulling it, you're just aiming your wrist. I found with the SearPro that I was having to exert energy to keep it from just tipping all the way down. But to each his own right! Thanks for stopping by! -Al
An interesting comparison. But $100 difference is pretty big. And you used the SearPro in a manner that they guided you not to do (beyond 45 degree angle). Yes, many products (especially flame throwers) can be used in ways that make them dangerous. If it hurts when you do that, don't do that. I'm not convinced that it's worth an extra $100 to be safe if I choose to use the product in a way in which it was not intended.
I have the Grill and Su-V Gun, ordered them when he was still doing the KickStarter. Zero Regrets! They are simply awesome. The guy who made the SearPro is the same guy who made Guga's first torch oh so long ago, so actually he was ahead of Bob Healey , just took too long to get to market. Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he came out first.
I'm with you - I love these things. It's disappointing that the SearPro guy didn't really innovate after taking so long to come to market. But that's ok - I love my GrillBlazer torches! Thanks for watching too. -Al
I love my Grill Blazer and the only advantage from the other is it can stand on its own. One thing to note about the Grill Blazer is if your flame out put ever stops working correctly they sell a parts kit and once you swap out the parts they run new again. I don’t know if the other gun sells replacement parts for their gun.
I chose the sear pro. It was less expensive. It works perfectly. The instructions tell you to never tilt beyond 45 degrees. And I never do. It’s perfect for me!
Al, if you’re attaching the grill gun with a 8’ hose to a 20# propane tank do you still have issues with tilting the gun > 45 degrees and can you lay it down on a table without disconnecting?
I am concerned on why didn't you light the charcoal with the SearPro? The tank is outside of the grill, not in contact with the coals. Thanks for the video....
Standing there holding it, it really just doesn't feel safe. I'm sure it would do a fine job and probably wouldn't blow up in your hands. I just feel safer not tempting fate like that. Thanks for watching!
I'm just wondering why you did not talk about hooking it up to a 20 gallon propane tank and the safety issue of standing back farther with the longer one
Hi Billy. I probably should have mentioned that the GrillBlazer flamethrowers kit comes with the hose so you can do that. Good catch. I think I did mention the safety issue of how far back the van is when lighting but I don’t think I mentioned that it’s safer to stand farther away too. Your observations are spot on. Did you get one of these?
I was fortunate to get my Grill Gun and Su-V Gun as an early Kickstarter supporter (I actually bought two of each and gave one pair to my son as a Christmas present in 2019. Both work exceptionally well, but will only work reliably when connected to a 20-lb propane tank with the hose from Grillblazer (I tried 3 or 4 others without success). But at today's price of $180 each or $346 for both, I wouldn't shell out that amount of money. I would continue to use my $35 piezo-ignition flamethrower from Harbor Freight that I've had since 2017. Lighting charcoal or searing meat, it does just as good a job.
Hi Max. If you're having problems with 1lb tanks, it could be a bad check-flow valve. They sell a kit to refurb your own for like $20 (I think my coupon code EMV10 works on that too).
I'm about to get my SU-V gun thanks to your review! My question is do you detach the gun from the propane tank each time after you used it? Or only when you have store it away for a long time?

Good question. I seared 8 huge ribeyes last month and didn’t use up the tank. So at least that many. But…..there’s a hose that comes with the complete kit that allows you to hook it up to a 20lb tank. Which would pretty much sear a whole cow.
