  • I’ve been thinking a lot about color zones recently so I wanted to make a quick video breaking down how I remember each zone.

    Yo! Did a couple paintings in acrylic gouache where I talk about the differences between painting light and dark skin.
    Check 'em out if you’re looking to learn more about how melanin effects the colors of the face.

    you have no idea the absolute amount of bullshit I've waded through, all the shitty 144p ripped tutorials on pinterest, google misinterpreting what I mean by "face color map" and what have you, all to have this pop up in my recommendations is an absolute godsend. thank you for making this

    Tried this today and for someone who has always had problems with color (esp skin tones) this is a GAME CHANGER. Worked with pro digital painters for many years and never saw this technique. Will definitely experiment with iit more!

    This is really good but it would be great to see a side by side of light skin vs dark skin or maybe a separate video focusing on darker skin.

      I'm actually working on a video focusing on darker skin tones, so stay tuned.

    Omg this is awesome, I think I am some kind of color blind with pink, red and orange, also with brown, blue and purple. Very good references, your right!

    hello i found this video to be very informative, i have a few questions though and would be great if you could help me. When you talk about adding blush to the areas like cheeks ears etc. is this different from what people refer to as subsurface scattering? If my character is more tan or leaning more towards the orange than reds, do i hue shift more to the red area when i apply blush also additional advice for hue shifting for different skin tones would be appereciated! Lastly, i recently started delving into applying varying skin tones in my work but i use the color layer blending mode to apply while using a soft airbrush then blur tool as fit, is this wrong? what are the benefits and why use vivid light blending mode?

    • @ilokin
      @ilokin  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's nothing wrong with applying different techniques, as long as the outcome is what you're looking for. Don't get too caught up in how you get the the finished product as long as you're happy with it.
      As far as your subsurface scattering comment, that's more to do with light passing through translucent skin and bouncing out. I'm planning on making another gouache video explaining darker skin tones, so stay tuned.
