      It was amazing for sure. I watched Succession on HBO a little while ago and it was amazing to see the helicopters actually landing in those piers on the Hudson like they do on the show.
      Won't need to pay for one of those now ;)

      @@davidt21 David, I used to love flying into LGA and hoped for the Hudson River 22 which provides a closer view of Manhattan. However, as I stated in a prior post you were SO lucky to have a go around and extra special it was crystal clear weather and no clouds or haziness to dampen the amazing skyline.

    This is probably the best video of an approach at LaGuardia including the NYC sightseeing, with the unintended go-arounds well, and because this video is recent, and LaGuardia's renovation is complete in this video. I thoughrohly enjoyed every second, just staring at those buildings!

    I had a go around flying into Sydney once a few years back. When we deplaned after finally landing, I thanked the flight crew for going around again so I could get the photos of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House that I had missed on our first approach. They weren’t expecting such a positive reaction and burst out laughing. You definitely made the most of yours going into LGA. Nice job!

    • @OSTARAEB4
      @OSTARAEB4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thanked a crew years ago by telling them “that was quite some flying over Virginia”. They didn’t reply but smiled. I was flying New York LaGuardia to Tampa and about ten minutes or so past Washington, D.C. we made a slight turn which I thought was rather unusual. I had been looking out the window as I love seeing the land when clear. It was a near miss to me as for about two seconds a northbound 737 flew under and slightly down at an angle where I clearly saw the white shirt of the First Officer and had no problem reading “Continental”. I froze for a bit and figured , “Gee, he must be heading for Newark”. He was much too close for my comfort.

      The video is incredible !!! The only reason it's not getting the exposure is because of the title. Add a few more words like " Incredible view of Manhatten from the air" or "Incredible Aerial view of New York City (Manhattan)" .. etc. You get the idea. More people will search those words than LGA Go-Around... :)
      Ive been flying (pilot) out of LGA since 1994, this video takes the prize for clarity, clean window, and an incredible day. At first, I thought it was filmed from the cockpit...lol. Job well done !!!

    One question I have with this is how busy is the air traffic around that area? Did you have to wait a while for the go ahead? Or at this height it’s okay?

    • @davidt21
      @davidt21  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m not 100% sure how it works. I know there is separation between incoming traffic to allow for a go around to be squeezed between two incoming planes.
      Traffic is pretty busy at La Guardia and JFK is not too far away either. I would guess that the tower at La Guardia vectors you to try the approach again!

    • @davidt21

      The traffic over NYC is extremely busy. You have flights to and from LGA, JFK, and Newark Liberty, and they are all within a 10 mile or less radius. Also throw in smaller jets from Teterboro airport in Lodi, NJ.
      In this case here and this video the flight into LGA is landing on runway 31. Most of your Newark flights are well to the west and are taking off to the north from runway 4L or 4R. And any incoming JFK flights from the west are flying much higher at about 15,000 ft over NYC and will loop back over the Atlantic to land on runway 31L or 4R.
      Nonetheless there is certainly a lot of traffic for NY flight control to handle

    • @OSTARAEB4
      @OSTARAEB4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Satyam, the airspace is very tight with three major airports. The Pilot clearly would’ve monitored this go around closely and the flyer got a special tour and lucked out with clear weather!

    • @kenito1967
      @kenito1967 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible, but there was a plane at the departure of 4 ready to go. From what my pilot experience flying in and out of LGA I'd say he was just a little high on final. This approach doesn't really have a square pattern like the norm, downwind, base, then final. It's more like an oval. So you have to continue descending throughout the whole maneuver or you'll end up high on final. The city buildings don't help you either because you don't want to buzz them. Then when you cross the Flushing Bay you feel it's right to descend quickly but it's not a lot of water to cross and you'll get the GPWS yelling at you not to sink. They did the 100% correct action. Go around. No harm, no fault, and I think this is the best video I've ever seen of that pattern especially through a passenger window!!!! Awesome video !!!! Can you tell me was that your IPhone or a professional camera ???

    • @FlyLeah
      @FlyLeah ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenito1967 is it like a DME arc?

    • @kenito1967
      @kenito1967 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyLeah ... it's called the Expressway Visual approach. You approach from the south side of Manhatten. You're suppose to fly direct to what's known as the Maspeth tanks. Then make a right turn and follow the LIE (Long Island Expressway )(495). That part is the downwind. Then make a left at the Van Wyck Expressway (678) to a point that intercepts the final curving around Citifield stadium. From downwind to final, it's a constant turn. You really don't level off or fly a base leg unless the tower tells you "square your final" so they can get a departure off of runway 4 before you land. If that happens, you would level your wings and make a short base leg. The error most pilots make with this request is that they continue to descend. You should stop the descend until you join final or you'll end up really low over the Home Depot in Flushing.
