So many daggers thrown in this scene. George's poem play is very beautiful. His talent and charisma is obvious to everyone except Bronte. But even she is touched by his performance here as it shows he really understands her.
I really love the surprise element here... what the audience is expected to think is a setup to a disaster, because of all the lies they've come up with, Bronte was expecting this to be another one. What a beautiful u-turn it turned out to be. Totally knocked us off. And melted hearts.
Yes. The video is missing the context that up till this point in the movie we didn’t know if George was really a musician. Everything he said up till that point was a defensive lie, though it turns out a lot of it was actually true. So him banging on the piano is hilarious, and then he plays this beautiful chord progression and it’s shocking.
I pity those that marked this down as they simply must have paralysis of the soul. In a bittersweet comedy this is beating heart of the movie and a joy to watch. Like I say you deserve... only pity.
I wonder if this scene was ispired by that scene in Taxi where Jim is Elaine's escort and almost blows it by playing horribly, but then starts playing piano beautifully.
Gary York Used to be the best. In the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s....From the 90s onwards started to fall.. ..by the year 2001, it was all over !!! I’m sorry. I really am!
It was all one "song". First part is the setting, to set the background and mood, it represents the life of the children in chaos. The melodious part represents how life would continue for them in sadness and despair would they not get the trees. Having the woman translate was an important part of the convincing, he had her feel the music and hence the children's suffering first hand.
I’m context. George appeared to be a lying con man up till this point in the movie. She had no reason to believe he was actually a composer or could play the piano at all. So she was mortified when they pressured him to play.
It does make me wonder, given the size of this home, and the astonishing, eyewatering affluence of the mother, why Bronte would need to marry George for the money. 'Bebe' Neuwirth is brilliant.
@@sallylydon397 How did I miss that? Thank you for the clarification. Bronte herself must be loaded too to afford to rent such an apartment. Especially that Lilith is impressed over Bronte's apartment. Pour les arbres.
Thumbs up if you think the piano scene is the coolest part in the movie......
Coolest part....the old lady trying to get in the elevator.
👍👍👍👍👍👍
One of the best film scenes i've ever seen!
this and shine flight of the bumblebee scene
And the funniest 🤣🤣
One of the best movies in the 90s
This is the heart of the movie. Yes, music part is no Mozart, but this scene is.
The paradigm shift.

One of the most Influential and emotional scenes
It’s abstract piano music. I like it. The high note at the end is the cherry on top.
I cry every time the poem starts
You, too?
One of my favorite scenes in a movie.
Gerard Depardieu who touch my heart always.

The mother isn’t Brontë’s mother, she’s her friend’s mother, and Brontë wasn’t marrying George for the money, it was so she could have her apartment.

Yes, you can actually get it online somewhere if you google it. Start with "soundtrack green card piano sheet", you can get it for a few dollars.
