    I'm the same way brother about the OCD thing. Even though aesthetics may not have any bearing on the tone, there is nothing wrong with taking pride in your work.

    Instead of a jig, you could just lay a roll of tape down on its side and sit that on top of it with the pots going through the hole. I decided I'm gonna do that after I used copper tape to shield my guitar and the roll seems decent for holding it steady.

    I'm glad I found your video here. It's so instructional. Please my bass has for POTS and I need to wire them. Which configuration can I use.
    1. One volume, one low, one mid and one high for the tones
    2. Two volumes and two tone controls one for each volume
    I am using a500k for tone and b500 for volume and 47 for capacitor

    Thanks so much for this Zach / Strings Attached. I managed to rewire my own J bass copy with this guide, hugely helpful and I really appreciate it (although going to take me many attempts to make the wiring as neat as yours!)

    Enjoyed your video. I am going to attempt what you did. What kind of wire did you use for the hot leads and the grounds. Tried putting a pre wired Mojotone into my Squire vintage modified Jag bass SS I did not work so I like what you did. And yes the stock wiring is a rats nest.

    I know this is a year old video, but there is a reason those are called pushback wires. You dont clip them, you just push the cloth back :)

      Tinned copper wire is what you need to look for. It's nothing special. 22 gauge or similar will be fine.

    Just got a CV 70s J. Stepping up to fender vintage 74s. My rep said no need to change pots. I disagree I think some better fender pots ( want to keep it fender for resale purposes) like the ones in the American basses. Will be my first wiring job and pup swap. Think I should get a pro and take notes.

      47nF metallised polyester film is what he's using. It doesn't need to be anything special. Just don't use a ceramic one because they're microphonic.

  • @jazzdrumguy5044

    I don't know anything about my Squier Jazz bass insides. I do want to upgrade the pots, jack and pickups. I was able to follow along the first part except I didn't understand soldering directly to the back of the pots, but I think I could do it. I was unclear on the bare wire you added, too. I was hoping for guidance when it came to the pickups, but you lost me! I saw 6 wires and wasn't sure what happen to them, which are "hot" or "leads" and which are not, and what to do. I actually ordered an Obsidian control harness plate with CTS pots and Switchcraft jack and quick connects, but I think I could do the soldering. My concern is now I will have 6 pickup wires and no clue which is which! Also how do I ground, and do I need to shield? I also need to get the pickups.......thanks for some guidance, though. I am curious how much you charge to do the harness and install new pickups though?

    Hi, how are you doing? I have a doubt about your procedure, what is the orange capacitator purpose, why its connected to all pots?I I am an amateur wanting to change my pups. Thanks! cheers!

    • @Lonewerewolf777
      @Lonewerewolf777 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don’t know if you have figured it out by now or not but the capacitor is sending the top frequencies only to the ground. The tone pot works the same way as the volume pots. When the volume pot is turned counter-clockwise, the signal is sent to ground which means you get no volume from that pickup.
      For the tone, turning the knob counter clockwise is sending the signal to the capacitor which is only passing the top end to ground. This gives a darker sound since the top end isn’t being sent to the output Jack. I hope this helps

    Where is your flux, my dude?! Also sweet jesus i come from the nerf modding hobby and some of your wire choices make me nauseous lol. Why not just mark all of the connextions on the ground wire circuit on an uncut line of wire, stip them at the marks, then solder at the exposed points?

    • @johnm2012
      @johnm2012 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The flux is one or more rosin cores inside the solder wire. I'd clean off the excess with isopropyl alcohol afterwards to get rid of the sticky brown residue.
