How effective is a "compensator" that moves with the slide, and away from the mouth of the barrel, during firing? How does this "compensation" compare to just sticking with the additional length/weight of the standard XL barrel? Does Sig have actual comparative research on this that they are willing to share?
Ported barrels and comps blow gases up ⬆️ & after a few pistol shots the front sight, sight picture is diminished because the soot, smoke on the front. A rear optic may be a big asset.
I own other ported pistols with no issue. This one however I’m left with many questions. Does gas escape into the frame? What about heat? Will the frame eventually melt? This is somewhat confusing to me why this product was made like this
I think this another example of fixing something that isn't broken. So you trade barrel length for a comp? No idea what that buys me except for less velocity than a standard XL. I see people modding the shit out of these guns. To me the 365 and XL are carry guns...aka....tools. I have a few slicked up 1911s, but they are range toys....not EDC. I pick the 365 or XL based on where I'm going, what I'm doing, and what I'm wearing. On the other side, I'm waiting to hear the cries from someone who spent big $$$$ modding their carry 365 or XL who actually was in a self defense encounter, and has had their gucci gun impounded as evidence. To each their own, but this is something I'm not buying.

This gun has the XL Grip module and plate for a optic, the slide & barrel are the same length as the standard P365, this version has ports cut out to help release gas, but I don’t think this gun is snappy, I have the XL Grip Module on a P365 standard slide.
There's plenty of reasons not to. Like excessive flash and noise or hot gasses and peaces of jacketing being flung around. Both can be a serious issue in small spaces and awkward positions. I have both comped and ported guns an they're great for plinking. However I've shot them enough to know I don't want either on a defensive gun.
I have a 365XL Spectre slide on a standard FCU, a custom stippled grip module and a true precision threaded barrel. I like it - so I'm not just trolling this. Sig must mean 'Comp' as in Competition because this technically is not a compensated pistol. Sure some of the gasses 'squirt' out of those milled slide cuts... but a comp usually has a barrel extension with ports to direct gasses in a direction that mitigates muzzle flip. The round is ahead of the expanding gasses as it passes those ports and they are still confined until the moment they can vent - usually upwards so there's more directed pressure to mitigate muzzle flip or rise. On the XL Comp the round is already out of the barrel and gas expands inside the end of the interior of the slide and has other directions to vent - not just upwards, so the effect is diminished. Now add that 3.1 inch barrel. What prevents that muzzle blast from blowing backwards and down inside the slide and cooking the polymer end of the grip module? Lastly while not a huge difference there's going to be a velocity drop going from a 3.7 inch standard XL barrel to a 3.1 inch barrel. In my case it would be going from a 4.3 inch(threaded) barrel to a 3.1 so there'd be a measurable velocity drop considering the i.2 inch difference. Considering what you give up for what benefit is achieved ... I'm a skeptic.
You the man on that. Wondered about and thought those same things. I'm wild guessing that you might get close to the same amount of comp effect just from the exiting gas pushing downward on a light extended further than the barrel. That gives me an idea, too. You might get some comp just by making the upper side of an extended light flat or even concave.
I like that they have optic cut AND rear sights. Finally. I don’t like the gold bling. Unless the barrel is ported and I didn’t see it, I also don’t think the comp is gonna do much since there’s not much of a chamber for the gases to get trapped and need to vent up (normally the hole is big enough for the bullet but not for the entire barrel). ** It would have made more sense to port the barrel at the front where the comp holes are (like with some of the chunk port-comps). The aftermarket should get on this and make a longer, ported barrel.
I'm definitely digging this new pistol as I carry CCW with a P365 that has a swapped grip module from a P365XL but the only drawback to this fantastic pistol is this firearm is very snappy and lots of recoil, I've been trying to figure out how to machine my slide and barrel to make it ported like the original P365 SAS! I'd love to see some footage of this gun in action before I run out to purchase it, I want to make sure that compensator is actually making a big difference in the performance of these firearms.
I promise you it won’t. That is not a comp at all. Just slide cuts. I love the 365 but this is just lying about putting slide cuts on an extended slide to make it look like a comp
@@jrc79lou I’m sure it’ll work slightly as any openings will help redirect the gases especially since the barrel is shorter and recessed in the slide but it’s going to be nominal! I believe they would have far better results if the actual barrel was ported as well as the slide just like the original P365 SAS porting had!

My only criticism of gas ports on barrels is that it increases the risk of fire of blinding blast in tight spots and it completely blanks out your night vision. Sure low flash powder helps but believe me your going to have two flame stacks out of those ports
How does ports on the slide compensate for muzzle rise I thought that the barrel would need to be compensated as this is where the gasses leave the barrel?
I just placed an order with my local gun shop...hopefully they become available soon. I have a 365XL, with a tru precision barrel and micro comp. I love it, but adding the threaded barrel and comp you essentially now have a 4.2" barrel. It's length is now longer then my other main CCW gun, Wilson Combat EDCx9. Although the XL still is much lighter and thinner so easier to carry with lighter clothing. I'll be trading in my current XL as soon as the Spectre comes in.
@@nateb4543 They had a list price of $1075. So not that bad. Considering that by the time I added the comp and tru precision barrel on my current XL the total cost of the gun was in the $800 range. Plus I'll trade in my current XL when this comes in so I'm guess I'll pay around $400-$500 when it's all said and done. Just move my 407k over to it and it'll be good to go. I also have that new Wilson Combat 365XL grip module ordered, should be here early next week. I'll swap that over to.
I own a Sig Sauer M400 Tread like the one on the left under the Virtus. I have kept it pretty much as is except for a few necessities (charging handle, light and stock) but I love it. My friend helped me name it Scarlett because of the red reflection off of the romeo5. Shit bangs.
Sig is fantastic with their innovation but I'm sure this will be a $1200+ gun. If the slide works with a 3.7" barrel it will be an easy way to get a lightened slide, then just wait until they go on sale.
I think there's some confusion about this pistol because of the "XL" in the name. I think this would be better described as a compensated P365x except the comp is built in the slide, not threaded on the barrel like the Hellcat RDP. If I understand this, putting this slide on a standard "XL" barrel would not be compensated. This is a "XL" slide with a P365 barrel.

It is not working compensator. All pressure will escape by large hole for barrel and non by 2 slots in slide. It will only get dirty.

The barrel is shorter than the slide, so the part of the slide that sticks out past the barrel replaces the barrel-mounted comp.

Cheaper and more secure to mill it and directly attach the dot. $125--150.
