As a young child in the late 80s, this movie was mind blowing to watch, I had never seen anything Christmas related before so dark and twisted, it’s definitely one of my top five Christmas movies ever
My favorite fun fact about this movie is that Frank's brother, Frank's father, and one of the guests at his brother's Christmas party were all played by Bill Murray's brothers. Also, "You broke up in a dog costume! That break-up was RUFF" is one of my favorite reactor one-liners of all time.
Starman, which stars Karen Allen and Jeff Bridges, is a must watch if you like Karen Allen. It was nominated for 6 academy awards. Karen Allen was nominated for best actress, but Jeff Bridges got the win for best actor. Its a very touching story and has some funny moments, too. You'll love that movie. I dont think anyone has reacted to it yet.
It's rare, but a few people reacted to it a year or so ago that I saw. I don't recall which channels anymore though. But I completely agree -- it's an amazing film. I watched it a lot as a teen. Didnd't wear out the tape, but I just loved it.
Bill Murray's brother Brian Doyle-Murray played his father ( he's also in Groundhog Day ). Singer David Johansen ( New York Dolls, and at one point he created a new performing persona called "Buster Poindexter" ) played the cabbie ghost. Comedian "Bobcat" Goldthwait played the guy he fired who comes back for revenge with a gun ( these days he doesn't do that voice that used to be his trademark ).
"i didnt know this movie would be so gross" rewind back to the PG13 warning she read at the start lol this is my fav Christmas Movie, its the last one i watch xmas eve night before going to bed
Now you can watch this classic holiday movie every year now! Lee Majors was the Six Million Dollar Man, a series in the 70's, an astronaut Steve Austin rebuild with bionics (six million dollars, bionic eye, arm, etc.) Carol Kane (Christmas Present) was Miracle Max's wife in the Princess Bride. Bocat Goldthwait was a comedian, popular on the Police Academy movies (maybe check those out!)
A real cool piece of trivia is the actor who plays James, Frank's younger brother; is played by Bill Murray's actual younger brother John, is elder brother who most folks today know as the Captain who does the Intro to the Spongebob Squarepants cartoon Brian Doyle-Murray played Frank's father in the flashback scene and Bill's other brother Joel played one of the guests at James' christmas party
This movie is my only annual tradition. It used to be It's a Wonderful Life (which I still have an appreciation for), but Scrooged replaced it about a decade ago. It's the only movie I've purchased digitally so I can watch it on almost any screen anywhere as long as I have wifi.
This is my favorite Christmas time movie. I always loved how he shocked his brother by giving him the answer to a game he wasn't there for. Bill Murray did an excellent job here. *edit* 😂1🤣 I swear that slip and fall had to be real
The ghost of Christmas past was played by David Johansen, singer of the legendary New York punk band, the New York Dolls. One of the greatest musical acts ever formed.
Love this movie. Saw it as a kid off the back of watching Ghostbusters. Didn’t get certain jokes until a few years later. Especially the “I thought you were Richard Prior” joke
Addie!!! Her name is Claire!!! Told ya it's A Great Show! For me after watching the "same ole" over and over This became a classic. Yeah! I cried in the theater!
Carol Kane is awesome!!! (Xmas Present) While filming, the part where she pulls down Frank's bottom lip, she pulled down so hard that she injured him. They had to shut down filming for a few days because Bill couldn't speak.
Carol Kane (Ghost of Christmas Present) is a gift. She's my favorite part of Scrooged. Her airy delivery (mixed with demonic low tones) pairs delightfully with her slapstick abuse of Bill. For more of Carol - Transylvania 6-5000, the original When A Stranger Calls, and Flashback (with Keifer Sutherland and Dennis Hopper).
At the time, this film was very under-appreciated and not many people gave it a chance. It was also a great satire of the over-the-top 80s when it came to excess (violent action, drugs, etc.) especially with that intro. It gained new life just in the past 20 years and I’m so glad many recognize it for its brilliance. IMO this is one of the best Xmas movies ever!
Nobody in history has enjoyed their job as much as the ghost of christmas past. Also Bill Murray when he actually turns up for the role rather than half assing it is brilliant.
@@LordVolkov The key to it is that most people who work with him film the good guy parts at first and then the jerk parts later, because he becomes notoriously grumpier the longer the filming goes on.
This is my go-to Christmas movie. I love every bit from the light horror, the comedy, the three ghosts, to the really heartfelt monologue at the end. The words kind of shaped parts of my life. So glad you loved it too!
Watched this when I was in mid teens...its the only movie I absolutely need to watch every season...keeps me at least a little hopeful for the world. Campy in parts...but a good sort of campy and think it came from a good place.
I saw this movie in the theater when it was first released. It was a packed house and yes, we all sang along at the end like happy tone-deaf fools! 😚That night still ranks near the top of all my favorite movie moments. Karen Allen is also in 'Animal House'. Good movie!
I am so very glad you enjoyed this Ads and that you finally got to this. It's one of my have films and a decent adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL with a truly tour de force turn by Murray (one of my fave humans) and he was fantastic and IMO, Oscar worthy, balancing humor and drama. FYI : during production Murray was struggling with his mother's battle with cancer and she succumbed shortly before his final climactic speech and you can see it really affected his performance because he really nails all the feels of it and those are genuine tears (he was very close w/her and it nearly crippled him). I was also lucky enough to meet Karen Allen at an anniversary screening of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK and as I got her autograph I asked her how it was to work w/Murray and she paused and beamed with the biggest smile and said "It was everything I could've hoped for!" Wishing you a very Merry Christmas Ads! xoxo
There was a joke when Frank dumped water on the waiter. He said, "I'm sorry. I though you were Richard Pryor." It didn't age well but referred to an incident in which Pryor accidentally set himself on fire while doing drugs.
Besides Bill Murry being a LEGEND of a vibe. The movie when i did watched it whole.. my god i could not help but to have the same fears. Not telling the person i love , that i love her, not holding the people that needed and the worst part feeling alone in dread for not letting go of all the things that i know i would go to hell for. It touched me to see him about to cry when he felt the anxiety lift and his happiness show compassion, its cheezy but its great!
Addie so glad you did this reaction. Fun movie. Bill Murray does a fantastic job as Frank Cross. Saw this with a friend when we were 13. I love it. It's hilarious that the ghost of christmas present looks like an adorable fairy, but she constantly beats the crap out of Frank. It's insane Frank ever broke up with wonderful Claire. She is so kind and loving. Actress Karen Allen is perfect to play Claire. The ending is emotionally moving. I also like the song at the end. Put a little love in Your Heart. Especially in the music video Sung by the amazing Annie Lennox & Al Green. Merry Christmas Addie 🎄
Addie, I'm so glad you watched this unique classic! Bill Murray is at his frenetic best, and I still get misty every time when Calvin says that iconic line. Great reactions as always! Merry Christmas to you!! 😊
I saw this for the first time in the theater with my family and it was one of the best theater experiences of my life. The entire theater sang along and clapped when they were singing at the end (which was the intention - hence Bill Murray asking different parts of the theater to sing). I love this movie and watch it every year around this time.
Easily my favourite version of Christmas Carol. Does it have flaws? Sure. But the vibe, Bill Murray's acting, the way the ghosts are represented, it just doesn't get better.
Hilarious take on "A Christmas Carol", and still kept in the spirit of things. Bill Murray with his wit and sarcasm was perfect. His older brother, Brian Doyle Murray, played his father, and his brother John played his younger brother. Carol Kane being the Ghost of Christmas Present was the funniest part of the entire movie. IMHO. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and all that jazz, Addie.
One of my favorite Murray movies. I noticed that both here and in Groundhog Day, his character reached an emotional turning point upon meeting a dying homeless man. In fact, if you go back & watch his rant at the frozen man, it's easy to see he's really yelling at himself. Carol Kane really cracked me up as the Ghost of Christmas Present. There's a McConaughey romcom called Ghosts of Girlfriends Past that, while not a Christmas story, follows the pattern of the story (warning ghost; past, present, and future ghosts). A pleasant variation, and IIRC Emma Stone's first major role.
I had the same reaction the first time I saw this movie, way back in 1988 😂 It immediately became my favorite Christmas movie, and I have watched it at least once every winter since it came out. So much more than a simple retelling of the story, and a lot more emotionally gratifying than I ever expected.
I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but early in the movie-the scene where Frank and his brother are walking & talking on the sidewalk-there is a band of sidewalk musicians playing. In that band are Paul Shaffer (former bandleader for David Letterman's shows) and Miles freaking Davis. Already a lot of star power in the movie, but come on 😂
@Addie: because I'm a man of, ahem, moderate age, some movie references you might not have gotten. 1) the actor playing Bill Murray's dad was Brian Doyle-Murray, his real life brother (and who is in pretty much every movie Bill is in) 2) Marlin Perkins was the host of a popular tv show in the 70's called "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom" that was a show about wild animals across the world (referenced in the mouse staple bit). 3) The Ghost of Christmas Past actor has an alternate stage name of "Buster Poindexter" and had a few music hits 4) Mary Lou Retton, who played the fake "Tiny Tim" was a famous gold medal Olympian gymnast from the 80's. That's the short list, but there were several fun cameos in this movie of actors who were known (and pretty much type cast) for one character they played at some point in the past (including a couple of Star Trek actors) so it was nice that they got small parts in this movie.
I'm so glad you loved it! Scrooged has always been my favorite Christmas movie. Now that I'm pushin' 40, the ending gets me emotional every time I see it! And I've seen it hundreds of times!
Fun Fact: The actor that plays Bill Murray’s Dad, is actually his Older Brother Brian Doyal-Murray. He’s in quite a few of Bill’s movies one of them being Ghostbusters 2.
27:32 THIS is why I chose to watch this reaction with you today. I've always loved that the most beloved line came from the character who never said a word through the whole movie. Merry Christmas, Addie. 🌲
😺Addie!!! 😺 One of my favorite scene's is when they light Calvin up!!! The whole theater was laughing! Her name is 😺Claire 😺 and his name is Lumpy! lol I loved this one since I saw it in the theaters! Runs the whole gambit of emotions especially laughter! Great mix! 😺Ollie!!! 😺 Its a great movie!
Addie, your reaction made this movie even better! You're adorable and so sweet! I loved when the kid spoke again and you mouthed the words in advance! "God bless us, every one!" God bless you Addie and Merry Christmas!
Bill Murray and Bobcat Goldthwait in the same movie? Yes, please! It's a shame they never made any more movies together. This is one of my favorite Christmas movies. Murray slipping as he left the restaurant was not scripted. The floor was wet but they decided to keep it in. The last part of the rant at the end was ad-libbed. The director told Murray to just wing it.
Karen Allen was outstanding in "Starman" (with Jeff Bridges). Highly recommended! Alfre Woodard was wonderful in this film. She has the most beautiful eyes.
This was an inspiring movie to me. I adopted the ways of frank cross. I became ruthless in order to obtain my goals. Then I learned compassion. When that happened my success rate declined. So I went back to ruthless uncaring ways and am successful again. I turn this movie off after the ghost of Christmas future portion before he gets compassion. Don’t compromise your dreams.
As always a great reaction, not sure if anyone mentioned this but in the scene with Claire he blames the experience on some bad clams. Murray in his time with SNL in the last 70s did a sketch called Bad Clams, just people sitting around complaining about clams.
The wonderful and exceptional Bill Murray. Love this film, but I do have to very highly commend another film he is in, much more recent, and that is 'St Vincent'. Had me in tears at the end.
Great reaction Addie! Scrooged is in my top five Christmas movies. It was really fun watching you react to it. Merry Christmas. Keep up the great work.
I'm so glad that Scrooged (1988) warmed your heart, Addie. I plan on having a Richard Donner double feature with Lethal Weapon (1987) and this movie, tonight.
This is my favorite Christmas movie, and I'm so glad this movie made a real impact. You continue to be one of the few reactors with whom I want to watch just about anything. Keep up the great work.
Hey Addie. If you want to see Karen Allen in another great movie, watch Starman. Jeff Bridges got an Oscar nomination for his performance in that movie. You'll ❤ it ☺️👍
One of my top three Christmas movies (along with The Muppets Christmas Carol and a little known British film called Bernard and the Genie). Growing up, this was one of the movies my siblings and I would watch every year without fail. Glad you enjoyed it.
Addie gets this movie! Finally! Some reactor's just sit there with a dumbfounded look on their face after watching this. It may be dark, it may be twisted and it may be a parody but in the end it has heart.
As a young child in the late 80s, this movie was mind blowing to watch, I had never seen anything Christmas related before so dark and twisted, it’s definitely one of my top five Christmas movies ever
You forgot way Funny AND definitely 'different.'
“For a few hours out of the whole year, we are the people we always hoped we would be” is the best line in Christmas movie history.
The ghost that was Bill Murray’s old boss still holds up to this day. He really looked fantastic.
The true proof of Bill Murray's initial rancor was getting Addie to swear on camera. 😂
"I know nothing! I see nothing!" 😂
Interesting that she muted 'bitch' from the movie, but not 'asshole' from herself. 🤔
It's a sign of intelligence.

Love this film, but I do have to very highly commend another film he is in, much more recent, and that is 'St Vincent'. Had me in tears at the end.
Karen Allen is in The Sandlot
And "Animal House" (her first movie role).
Great reaction Addie! Scrooged is in my top five Christmas movies. It was really fun watching you react to it. Merry Christmas. Keep up the great work.
Great version of this Dickens classic!
AND HOLLY CRAP! Is that not the most terrorfieing Ghost of Christmas Future EVER! Loved it!
You'll ❤ it ☺️👍
I second that.
One of my top three Christmas movies (along with The Muppets Christmas Carol and a little known British film called Bernard and the Genie). Growing up, this was one of the movies my siblings and I would watch every year without fail. Glad you enjoyed it.
This is my favorite Christmas movie, thanks for the reaction, Merry Christmas!!
Carol Kane is my favorite part of this movie! She is amazing and hilarious!
Merry Christmas, Addie!
Hi Addie, it was so good to see you enjoying this film so much. Glad you enjoyed it !! :)
Have you seen the movie ELF? Zooey Deschanel's first movie I believe. Another one is almost famous with Frances McDormand and Zooey Deschanel.
OMG! I can't believe my ears! Addie, you said a$$hole!! 😂
Addie gets this movie! Finally! Some reactor's just sit there with a dumbfounded look on their face after watching this. It may be dark, it may be twisted and it may be a parody but in the end it has heart.
My fave Christmas movie. Great mixture of schmaltz and dark humour and I always sing along at the end. :D
So glad you loved this Addie. So many reactors don’t for some reason.
*THIS* is my favorite holiday movie.
