Personally I like the band of colour and texturing on these pieces. It has the look of a craftsman and an added visual interest. I don’t see many turners that use these texturing tools that you have. I like little details like this, it gives it that unique look. Another very beautiful project. 👍

Looks good. If you burnt the rings before adding the stain the burning will inhibit the dye bleeding through.

Good pointer. Also, make sure you can let go of the wire easily in case it gets trapped in the wood. Wire strong, , fingers not. Don't end up like the Wyoming Woodturner. He lost some bits of fingers on a saw, but the wire can do that too, beware! Best wishes.

Hi Tanya. I like the yellow/ orange stain on the textured areas, looks the part, really nice. If you haven't got one and you can afford one, get yourself a Spindle Roughing gouge if you can afford one (1") maybe. That will knock the corners off square long grain stock much more efficiently than a bowl gouge can. They are also a doddle to sharpen too. I've been looking at that Sorby texturing tool for years, but it's a bit pricey for what you get. Anyway, best wishes and watch your fingers.
I believe she has a 1 1/2" Spindle Roughing gouge already 😉

A Longworth chuck requires a VERY gentle touch. Light cuts are a have to. They won't hold nearly as securely as Cole jaws.. Nice project. I
rather like the colored band.

Did u just use a mica powder and mix it with denatured alcohol to make ur own alcohol dye? I might have to try that n see how it works. Great job it's nice to see different things now and then!!
I used this wood dye for this turn. I really like it because you can make it as light or dark as you want.

Great piece. Burning the grooves before colouring will prevent bleed out of the colours, as it seals the grain. Your lathe looks remarkably like mine. As I'm in Australia, mine was marketed by a local tool company called Hare and Forbes as a Hafco WL46A. What is it sold as in the States? I have just subscribed, BTW. Cheers, mate.
Thank you Ron! I will try that next time and thank you for the tip. My lathe is a Grizzly GO766 with a 22" swing and made by Grizzly manufacturer. It is a very good machine.
