The effects were absolutely amazing. More than I've ever seen at a concert.
miss hide...hide sound better...
There is no-one quite like HIDE, even Sugizo, his "replacement" said that in an interview. That said, I do think that they're similar in a lot of ways. Sugizo is a a very charismatic guy (as was HIDE,) and a lot of Japanese fans see him as the best "fit" for X-Japan. HIDE was also a good friend of his.
I think he is a good fit especially for their new music. Although Hide's influence is irreplaceable, Sugizo's violin adds a unique dimension. On another note, I once heard that Jake E Lee had been considering an offer to join a really big international band. He's half-Japanese, and many years later he named his band Red Dragon Cartel, similar to Yoshiki's comic. His first solo album was called Fine Pink Mist, so there's another possible influence, from Hide. It seems like he was influenced by X Japan. He is so versatile, and could have been a good fit too.
Toshi and Yoshiki once said that Sugizo never replaces Hide. He is officially the 6th member of the group.
