Sorry is a cop out. Its like if a dad not taking care of his kids for 20 years all of a sudden shows up and says I'm sorry. You had 20 whole years to fix your crap!
WWEGarzaSlam to true even the doctor is going to struggle with it because their jobs is to help lives but even they know that sometimes there is just nothing they can do for them and then having to go and tell the family is going to be the hardest thing they will ever have to do
Exactly...both of y’all are right and then when they come out sad because they know it’s going to hurt the family and I know deep down they feel just as sad 😔
Yep. The doctor knew my dad's time was coming. She shed tears because she had attended to him for 6 years. My father passed away from cirrhosis, and kidney cancer in 2013.
This is why boy meets world will always be better than girl meets world and is a cult classic. Boy meets world may have been a comedy / soap opera, but it took a lot of risks and was truly amazing with what it did and was truly memorable. I honestly don't care what people say Friends and Seinfeld can't compete. And neither can girl meets world.
TheRealBitterbub Dude, you can't compare BMW as adults to GMW as kids....do you not remember how cheesy BMW was when cory, topanga, and Shawn were in middle school? Give it time and then we'll see if it can compare. GMW has a lot to compete with though, no doubt.
Brittany White 1. I absolutely can make that same comparison. And who said I was JUST comparing the adult version to when they're kids? The argument of: Well they're kids now, and they were mostly adults in BMW doesn't really matter when I doubt GMW will EVER reach the same point or popularity of Boy meets World to where they will be older? Exactly. We won't see these characters as older versions of themselves again. 2. And, no. I watched Boy meets World from almost the beginning and never found it cheesy. 3. My big beef with Girl meets World, is NOTHING IS MEMORABLE ABOUT THE SHOW. The only good things about this show is quite literally seeing Corey and Topanga back (though I think Topanga looks nothing like she used to) and the reference to George Feeny in one of the episodes via poster in the subway. Honestly just watch this show get canceled within a few years if not sooner.
TheRealBitterbub They've had a lot more cameos in Girl Meets World: Harley, Minkus, Eric, Alan & Amy, Josh (although Morgan is nowhere to be seen) etc. It's a joy watching the old cast, and I agree that Girl Meets World plotlines are quite childish compared to Boy Meets World, but the writing has changed from the first season, as the writers are targeting the Boy Meets World old fans, since they are the majority of the viewers than the kids who watch Disney channel. Give it another season, I actually can't wait to see more of Shawn, since he's more involved now.
+TheRealBitterbub GMW has gotten really good. I don't know if you watch it. They just did an episode where Riley Matthews (Cory's daughter) was getting cyber-bullied what a great episode. Another time is where Tommy (remember Eric's child) came back and they had a closure of that sl. So don't you dare say Boy Meets World is better then Girl Meets World they are both great shows. And season 2 of GMW is great. Everyone has a recurring characters who was in BMW. GMW is this geneations BMW I think its great. so don't compare them.
i really like chet hunters idea of a present , giving his son a picture of him and and his 2 boys as a present is a message, hes trying to say that family is the best present that a person could ask for
I know how hard this is for them especially Shawn, who has a dead father and a mom who always has to run away admitting that she is not his real mother
TheGorilla127 She did. In "Family Trees" (S7) Virna gave Shawn the letter explaining that she wasn't his real mother. That's what made Shawn even more depressed about his family.
Shawn Hunter was the best actor on the show. He delivered comedy and delivered emotions at the same time so perfectly well. This is one of them. His emotions just came thru like that without him saying anything. And he made you cry here. Wow. Great acting by him.
I know that comparing shows isn't a good thing...but I really do hope that Girl Meets World does episodes dealing with the prospect of death among other thematic themes Boy Meets World touched on (especially sex, which I highly doubt but I feel sex is even more relevant in this new age)...here's to hoping?
That show is NOTHIN like boy meets world it will never be good enough nothin I mean NOTHIN can replace that show not even that stupid one that can't even come close to boy meets world!!!
TheGorilla127 I agree its def not like the legendary BMW. But girl meets world is fun to watch especially when they do BMW easter eggs and cameos. Then it gets more interesting and appeals to the older generation who lived on BMW.

I've been an insane BMW fan and have watched it 4 times over despite being 16 and only starting the series at about 15. It relates so much to me that I just can't stop loving it.
I know exactly how Shawn feels, when my dad died this September of a weak heart plus lung cancer and he was disabled I silently asked him "why wasn't I good enough to try to stay?" my dad was a smoker and had survived 4 heart attacks, when I was 12 he had to get his leg amputated and then over years his health decreased, then he got another blood clot and had to have another leg amputated, so then he was in a wheel chair, he was 53 and I am still so mad that he didn't feel like trying to stay or make healthier choices and it sucks because when I was a kid we would always go to the park and do things and he was healthy and strong and we were so close, we weren't that close anymore, it also sucks because I still have lots of questions for him but he isn't here anymore to answer them
im not very emotional. but having lost my own father and not really crying at his funeral. this gets me every time. and no the actor did not die in real life. he went on to do many rolls. even stuck around on this show till the last episode as a ghost. has even been in girl meets world as the ghost of chet.
+CureHime They did do a episode like this it was with that old lady who owned the little cafe under the apartment that Cory and his family live over she did and Riley did like a little tribute to her thne at the end of the episode Cory called up Mr Feeny
I remember seeing this scene as a kid, I can relate to Shawn for Chet being a drunk of a father and abandoning him during his childhood. Last night, Jan 24 2024, I received news of my father. All the hatred I had for him are gone and wish I was never that angry for over 20 years. This scene hits me harder now.
Damn this makes me feel so bad for Shawn. He desperately wanted to be with his family and did everything in his power to help keep them together. I just wish his parents appreciated how much he wanted undying love and support from them in the beginning. Crazy thing is people go through things like this all the time in real life which is one of the reasons why I love this show
Lets talk about the brilliant acting from the doctor, i feel like hes not getting enough credit in his delivery of bad news and of course shawn and jacks reaction was flawless, just wow...
I think one of the things that makes Chet’s death so impactful is the fact that he was one of the very few side characters with steady continuity throughout the series who never changed. Tapanga went through multiple Dads throughout the series (played by different actors) without any explanation why. Morgan was portrayed by two actresses. Mr. Turner survives the motorcycle accident but is never heard from again. And Joshua magically becomes around 3 in the matter of a few episodes. Chet was the only side character on the show with a constant story arch and same actor that was around for almost the entire series. He was always the absent father in Shawn’s life throughout the show, so the fact that he dies before they could finally become a family is really sad/impactful here.
KiwiBaby1988 When i was watching the season 6 dvd set I just got done with it today but last week i got done with this episode and my mom told me to wait for her to watch it cause she never seen this episode (it was on the night before on abc family but she was tired from working) so when she got home from work last Thursday night we sat and watched it and it was really sad and it was like the 1st time we cried really hard at show like that but then my mom told me that he is in other shows as well and she thought that he was alive (but what she did not know was that he was like a ghost) So today we were watching girl meets world and Anglia came back then at the end of the show he came back on it was sweet and sad at the same time
Even though there won't be a show like Boy Meets World, Disney needs to make a show like it. All this music, comedy, and magic is good for the younger kids but they need a show directed towards preteens and teenagers. This show had comedy, but it also had its tragedies. Basically, it had real world themes teens through. I know parental audiences would say it's inappropriate, but you let them play games like GTA and COD. Let's bring these types of shows back.
+Mariam Black OMG, GMW is not stupid or badly acted. It's only in its 2nd season, so why do you expect it to be heartwrenching and super realistic at such an early point. Have you seen season 2? So far they are discussing relatable and down-to-earth topics, and trust me when I say that the kids are growing as actors.
Sadest and best episode BMW ever did. I cried so much after seeing this. This was one of the best sticoms I've ever seen. The last really live sitcom to me. You know that looked live. I miss that in sitcoms.
I'm rewatching this almost a year after my father's death. I always liked Chet Hunter - he reminded me of my dad, well meaning but deeply troubled. He died before we had the chance to speak again. This episode is so hard to watch now.
This was one of...no....this IS the saddest episode in my opinion. I can relate to Shawn in some ways. But I cried even more after I lost my own father years ago. This scene along with Mufasa's death are ones that bring me flashbacks. :'(
As sad as this episode is, it helps lighten the mood knowing that Chet will return again making those comedic cameos as a spirit figure, across both shows. If I was the writer, I would’ve began the ghost stuff with this episode just for the sake of not letting things get too bleak on a sitcom. I would’ve included a funny scene over the credits where Chet’s spirit goes back to the apartment to get a piece of Rachel’s chocolate cake, even though it contributed to his demise, to take with him on his trip to the afterlife.
People compare this scene with Fresh prince Will's dad leaving. Yeah their both heavy episode but this one hurts more. Shawn and Jack's dad were abandon by Chett and so was will but what hurts worse is that Chett wanted a second chance to be dad to his son and amends but never got the chance. Will's father could've had a second chance but he Just walked away.
Full House Had Pam's Death Before The Show And Papouli Death. Home Improvement Had Some Deaths. Boy Meets World Had This, The Lunch Lady Death, Feeny's Appendicitis And Jonathan Motorcycle Accident. Family Matters Had Rachel's Husband Death Before The Show In Which He Was Killed. They Never Revealed It-I Found Out About It; They Had Aunt Clotilda's Death Which The Writers Covered Up With A Lot Of Humor Because Of It's Sadness; Laura's Boyfriend Curtis Williams Grandmom Was Murdered Which Is Why Curtis Couldn't Take Her To The Prom And With. Myra Having Pneumonia Laura And Steve Had To Go Together; Family Matters Had Carl After Convenient Store Robbery Felt Guilty About Victim Shot To Dead; There Was Carl Nearly Drowning When Ice-Fishing; And Carl Being Shocked From The Lamp And Was Clinically Death For No More Than 3 MINUTES; And Fresh Prince Had Uncle Phil's Heart Attack And His Father's Death. There Were More Episodes Of Family Matters, Fresh Prince And Full House Something Happened To Someone I Can't List All-Michelle Falling Off Her Horse/Stephanie's Friend Gia And Those High School Dudes They Went Joyriding With Were Severely In An Accident; Will Being Shot/Carlton Taking Pills From Will's Locker: And Steve And Carl Sharing A Hospital Room-Appendicitis/Shot In Ass After Taking Down 4 Gang Members And Almost Killed In Hospital/Steve Almost Died In Space Saving Earth From Explosion From NUCLEAR Satellite I Found Out.
This reminds me of my grandpa, he went out to the bar one night, (this was may 5th of last year which is also my moms birthday keep that in mind) He went back out to the car and had a MAJOR heart attack they tried to resuscitate him for 20 minutes and he didn't come back. My mom though it was his fault that he had died, she was with him from 6 weeks then came back to the us and the sad thing is he died on my moms birthday and she had to go back on her birthday for the funeral it was the most heart breaking thing he was the first family member I have ever lost and it is super sad knowing that my thinks its her fault and that she says she will never enjoy the holiday's or her birthday anymore because he's not with us anymore. But its not my mom's fault and I know it. Super sad 5/5/14 R.I.P grandpa
I lost grandpa in a similar way just last May. His heart just gave out, but he was at home and I tried to save him. If not for the LifeAlert on him, help wouldn't have come while I performed CPR. They said that I gave him an hour he wouldn't of had. I got up an hour early that day. To think, if I got up at my usual time, he'd be dead and there would have been nothing I could do. My neighbor worked in the First Responders as maintenance and called his wife to stay with me until my family arrived. My uncles and aunt took everything that wasn't willed to me, my siblings, and mom (he was her stepfather, but he was still grandpa) and ran off. Mom tried to buy back her mom's house, but they laughed in her face. All I wanted was the bedroom furniture he promised, as it was grandma's and she technically willed it to me already (they tried to contest it because it's a very expensive set) and some of his old shirts. They never bothered to talk to grandpa for years while we gave up so much to care for him. My sister, who worked the Covid Unit as an RT had an excuse not to visit, but she at least made sure that his needs were met when he came to her hospital, while they ignored call after call about him. I at least made sure he was buried in his favorite shirt and sis and bro made sure to keep the one grandchild grandpa hated (he totaled 3 cars, stole grandpa's and totaled it, too) away.
The look of shock and confusion on Shawn's face when he gets the bad news from the doctor is so real. Rider Strong is such a great actor - I think he was probably the best actor on the show. Shawn was a hard character to play - first a screwball kid who got into trouble all the time and then a sensitive and emotional young man who kept his emotions bottled up.
This scene hits hime. I lost both my parents and I remember that feeling when you get that news so seeing the pain on Shawn and Jack's face is relatable. You don't forget that day. That pain. That grief.
Once you have seen this episode, Chet’s apology becomes even more poignant because it was at this moment that he realized he had no chances to make things right with his Shawn.
As someone who's been a BMW fan for as long as I can remember and now a fan of GMW it's really rad to see so many new fans get into Cory and Topanga's story.
I Cried during this scene many times as well powerful episode of the series I am just glad Shawn and Chet were able to make peace before he died I Cant through the ending without crying .
Even years after this show has say "GoodBye" it is still one of the most popular shows today :) I still enjoying watching 'Boy Meets World' everyday. This particular episode still brings tears to my eyes !
i just started watching boy meets world, my mom says she watch it all the time when she was a kid. And i am just in love with it! This episode made me cry for three days straight!!
Me too. It gets me all choked up. I'm sorry. I know what it's like. I lost my dad last year, in September, only 7 days after my birthday and it's just unbearable. I'm truly sorry for your loss. =[
cant believe this was more than 10 years ago , time really runs fast. its really sad that we're not seeing more shows like bmw anymore a show that u can have fun watching and learn some life lessons from at the same time , most of kids shows these days are lame and pathetic with nothing useful to provide . so it makes me happy that I grew up with shows like bmw and home improvement being part of my childhood I consider myself lucky,
When Shawn starts to cry while telling chet how he feels and tells him that he needs him.. I got hit with the feels so bad. Man rock solid acting.. Everytime I watch this show I keep thinking "this show is amazing" It didn't need cheesiness, cringy one liners, almost every character having to sing to make a point.. It was just an overall great show. I dnt think they'll ever make a show like this again.
You never know, I prefer to take the wait and see approach. Its still Michael Jacobs producing Girl Meets World, same production company as well so I'm optimistic it'll take on just as serious topics should it stay on long enough. Maybe not in the first few seasons, but eventually.
Thank you for letting me know, ff. I remember first time I ever saw this, the entire immediate family were still together, then we went out to the living room, and I remember crying my eyes out after seeing the clip of his death announcement. I felt bad for them even though it's a t.v. show.
When Keenan moved away in that episode of Keenan and Kel and Kel didn't get to say goodbye and this episode were like the sadest things i had ever seen when i was a kid.
I think this is a life lesson for everyone. I am sorry for your loss. May God bless you and your family with angel wings. Fly high beautiful person with the angels.
Ok definitely one the saddest deaths in tv show history when Chet died it was almost like seeing one of our parents died his relationship with the boys particularly Shawn was so strong because no matter how ofton Chet disappointed Shawn 8n his life you knew he truly didn't mean to and that's why they ultimately were a family
Its way worse if you had no good memories with them, in next episode Shawn try to pretend like it didnt happeen. Just sad in general. Think its why its so important to be with your family and have good memories of them aslong as they live
This one and the full house episode when papouli dies. The episode from growing pains when Mike's sisters boyfriend dies he was played by matthew Perry. I think his name was Sandy in that one. The one when Dan has a heart attack on Roseanne. All amazing scenes. This is def up there for sure. So sad and heartbreaking and heartwrenching
The acting through this scene is rock solid. You can even hear the doctor breaking down a little bit when he delivers the bad news to the guys.
That's because it wasn't acting. The feels between everyone were real I'm sure. This is a BMW clip that won't be forgotten.
Thats because he died in real life, at the exact moment they were filming this scene
Clans Uhh no:\
+Emily_TheReader he just playing with you😂😂😂
Lol. I can see how that is possible, but I can also see a very confused person..... This show is confusing at first but then you get it.
His fathers last words was "I'm sorry Shawn" it's gets me every time, so powerful.

Rider Strong is superb in his role on this show! Fabulous and convincing emotions he shows in the saddest parts of his character’s role!
i know my cousins girlfriend lost her father too
This scene and Dan's heart attack in Roseanne get to me.
sorry 4 ur lose may ur father rest in peace
Jack’s sad but Shawn is just straight up in shock when they hear the news. That was a nice detail, I think.
This episode was really really sad I literally cried!!!
I felt so bad for Shawn.. He was my favorite I cried when I watched this.
The doctor played by Julio Oscar Mechoso. Wonderfully talented character actor gone too soon. RIP 1955 - 2017
I remember watching this episode and I didn't see this coming and as much older this still gets to me as a father now
When shawn yelled: DAD? DAD? DAD?
My heart began to hurt
its a tv show......
ghost noob Well yeah, but I am the kind of person to think: What if that happened to me? So that was really sad for me...
+AGSparkles 101 oh
15 years later and I still tear up at this scene.. lol
Shawn May Not Have Had His Parents, But He Always Had A Family.
This is one of the saddest episode of the entire serie
if you disliked this you are heartless! This is beautiful and sad, but definitely not dislikable
The 90s weren't afraid to tackle things like this. Boy meets world, family matters, full house, home improvement, fresh prince of bel air etc
I loved this show.. I remember seeing this.. 1 of the most powerful moments ive ever seen.. it was truly sad
Blake Clark was also in Home Improvement
I remember the first time I watched this episode. I felt like I was losing someone special in my life too. That is how much influence BMW has on you!
I'm not crying, my eyes are just sweaty.
Boy meets world is far better than any Disney show today. It really got into difficult subjects and that's what made it so great.
I know how they felt. i just lost my father not to long ago and the pain is still there. this scene really was emotional.
I experienced this last year when i lost my dad.
Shanda Johnson, like Bindi Irwin said, "It is a tough club to be in."
This really hits close to home for me. My dad died 3 years ago and I was there when it happened.
These are one of the most saddest moments in boy meets world!!!
Literally
I'm not going to cry
+John Etheridge your cried didn't you
+Jordyn Gamer,a few tears 😢😢
yep
Fun Fact: Chet is the voice of Slinky Dog in Toy Story
His made me tear up still. You could feel the pain they felt.
Bmw always gave the feels
This scene hits hime. I lost both my parents and I remember that feeling when you get that news so seeing the pain on Shawn and Jack's face is relatable. You don't forget that day. That pain. That grief.
Once you have seen this episode, Chet’s apology becomes even more poignant because it was at this moment that he realized he had no chances to make things right with his Shawn.
one of the saddest scenes ever...Rider Strong was superb in this episode...most of the episodes...but this always stands out for me.
As someone who's been a BMW fan for as long as I can remember and now a fan of GMW it's really rad to see so many new fans get into Cory and Topanga's story.
Omg. I’ve never seen the show before but I watched this and actually cried. That was so sad!!!!! I’ve rarely cried this much!!!😭😭😭
No matter how many times I watch this i still cry
I couldn't get over The Doctor flailing his arms every time he spoke..
Love how mr feeny always showed up for support when they needed it the most he wasn't just their teacher he was family
I wish we had more time with Chet Eddie jack mike Shawn Stacy and Vera
I Cried during this scene many times as well powerful episode of the series I am just glad Shawn and Chet were able to make peace before he died I Cant through the ending without crying .
Even years after this show has say "GoodBye" it is still one of the most popular shows today :) I still enjoying watching 'Boy Meets World' everyday. This particular episode still brings tears to my eyes !
i remember crying cause Chet was my favorite.
I'm a 24 year old male and still cry during this episode.
I bawled like a baby when the doctor came in and said We lost him and the audience made a sound there. It was too much omg. So sad.
i just started watching boy meets world, my mom says she watch it all the time when she was a kid. And i am just in love with it! This episode made me cry for three days straight!!
aww i feel ban for Shawn and his brother
hailey Laberdee bad not ban
Amber Medellin seriously?
Jamiilaa K, ever heard of a correction?
This is the very first episode I ever fully broke down and cried after seeing it and to this day I still shed a tear when I watch it.
Me too. It gets me all choked up.
I'm sorry. I know what it's like. I lost my dad last year, in September, only 7 days after my birthday and it's just unbearable. I'm truly sorry for your loss. =[
It's the voice of Slinky. He is so cool. Very sad. :(
that was a powerful scene
cant believe this was more than 10 years ago , time really runs fast. its really sad that we're not seeing more shows like bmw anymore a show that u can have fun watching and learn some life lessons from at the same time , most of kids shows these days are lame and pathetic with nothing useful to provide . so it makes me happy that I grew up with shows like bmw and home improvement being part of my childhood I consider myself lucky,
10? Say more like 20
My grandpa passed away when I was born
I remember this episode.. Sad
woah, 2 minutes of this clip and i'm sobbing.
When Shawn starts to cry while telling chet how he feels and tells him that he needs him.. I got hit with the feels so bad. Man rock solid acting..
Everytime I watch this show I keep thinking
"this show is amazing"
It didn't need cheesiness, cringy one liners, almost every character having to sing to make a point..
I miss shows like this and Growing Pains. The acting and content was one of a kind. Matter of fact, most shows were better in the 90s.
this and the final scene always gets to me
Thank you for letting me know, ff. I remember first time I ever saw this, the entire immediate family were still together, then we went out to the living room, and I remember crying my eyes out after seeing the clip of his death announcement. I felt bad for them even though it's a t.v. show.
I knew I shouldn't have watched this scene again. Hurts just as much as the first time watching.
When Keenan moved away in that episode of Keenan and Kel and Kel didn't get to say goodbye and this episode were like the sadest things i had ever seen when i was a kid.
disneyplus brought back such a tear jerker! lol
Tough club.
Its way worse if you had no good memories with them, in next episode Shawn try to pretend like it didnt happeen. Just sad in general. Think its why its so important to be with your family and have good memories of them aslong as they live
Aww I felt Bad for Shawn dad 😢😢😢😭😔💔💔 that How I feel When my Grandma's passed away 😢😢😢😭😔💔💔
As I watched this video and scrolled down... I see that Girl merts world brought the character back....
