I believe this song is about his fight with cancer, and how you can't ever give up even how much "hope looks like a broken bridge", and how much "The rain refuses to stop". and it's just perfect with all the lyrics he uses. And this just doesn't apply to cancer I think. It applies to everyday life we go thru.
