Your natural hair coming through looks so beautiful - it really brings out your eyes and makes the skin glow Do you think you could do a video on the process? There’s a lot of us with dyed hair who find the concept of change difficult.
I would love to see you do a video on Allison's 3 words method and your 8 style roots or even Rita's 4 style essences. You lady's are changing things around for the better 😊❤
Hey, Ellie! You definitely are not the only one, who "saves" the clothes , in order for them to last longer! This is such an issue for me, I'm trying to work on it in therapy. Also, if (more like WHEN) the body weight fluctuates, the clothes may no longer fit either - so , in this case - ends up not being worn as much as could, or loved as much as possible. Thank You for the video!
I'm guilty of this. I sometimes even deliberately wear my "less than" clothes although I deep down know that I dont feel that comfortable in them. Working on that, too. It makes such a huge difference how I go about my day when I wear clothes I feel 100% comfortable in. A good indicator for me is if I forget about what I'm wearing (vs constantly fussing around or checking my outfit). Things that have helped me: The Ten item wardrobe (Jennifer L. Scott) has reduced my scarcity mindset and therefore the need to spare my clothes. Planning my outfits for the week ahead (roughly), so when the day comes I actually wear the garment more likely. It has hade the reverse effect of sparing my clothes: wanting to wear them beforw washing day so that they are ready to wear again for the next week (Hannah Louise Poston: garments are meant to "wash and wear"). The fact that clothes actually don't deteriorate that fast. I have had many of my favourite clothes literally for years. Also, you can expand their lifespan by mending.
i just had my last MAJOR declutter a year ago and it was insanely monumental to honing in my person style. essentially my husband and i were moving across the country with no movers, moving trucks, etc so i had no other choice but to be extremely picky with what i take with me. it helped me stick to certain style parameters that were important to me. also the house we moved into had the tiniest closet imaginable lol so this forced me to be even pickier with clothes i had, everything else had to go in storage. but what helped was watching your style root series, deleting instagram and downloading pinterest to discover what my fundamental style priorities are. it's been such a fun and fulfilling journey!!!!
I appreciate the less pressure on getting rid of piles. I always make a box of things that have issues so I'm not going to wear them but I just label the box with fix, upcycle or go and leave them there and if I've not done anything wih the stuff after a few seasons then it's time to get serious! I do keep my sentimental things at my parents' house like wedding bridesmaid outfits and childhood faves or important gifts.
Hey Ellie! New sub here ☺️ Getting rid of clothes or decluttering is truly a hard job for anyone who are into styles. So it is okay, you can feel sentimental and in a long run you can get "closer" and are ready to sell/donate it. I have decluttered my wardrobe almost two years now. It gets more and more your perfect wardrobe every time you declutter as well as you buy something you really love to wear. Thank you for this video! Have a good weekend!
I've definitely noticed a shift in my approach to silhouette, cut, and style as my pregnancy progresses--I need clothes that move with my changing body rather than pushing against it or restricting it (goodbye to cropped blouses and bodycon anything). I've been wanting to declutter my closet for ages, so this video came at a great time. Thank you! (I've acquired a dress in deep plum that I enjoy wearing every so often; the trick is styling it in fresh ways. It helps that my partner enjoys watching me twirl about in it.)
Congrats on your coming baby! I started a capsule maternity wardrobe during my first pregnancy. I only bought things I loved. Second time, I added just a few more. It's great to only have to look at items I really like to wear.
Rather than donate the clothing that isn’t working for you now, consider putting it in a bin or something. You may be ready to wear it again before long. Anything that felt even a little snug before pregnancy (including shoes) is probably safe to declutter for good, though!
I am also storing clothes which I don't use. It is a very good thing. I don't understand or recommend anyone throwing clothes away immediately. Im also sentimental and very indecisive. Also many times I have noticed that I have missed some of the clothes, so it is the best way for me to store them. There is usually one carrier bag size full of the "what if"-clothes. I go through them every 6 months, when I change seasonal clothes in my wardrobe. Sometimes I pick up something from there to give away. Sometimes I take a cloth back to use again. There are also clothes that stay there cos im still not sure about them. But the amount stays decent.
I just got done going through my closet using this system! I have SO many clothes that I love, and I know my style and have inspiration, I just don't wear them enough. I'm moving away from more sun styles lately so a lot of my bright colored things ended up in the no never pile.
I’m in the midst of a life transition and most of my wardrobe has been in storage for nearly six months. I can’t wait to get them out of storage next month and look at them with fresh eyes! Videos like this will help me so much! Thanks Ellie Jean
Thank you! Going to pull the clothes that are never going to fit well (and too nice to DIY tailor, or too difficult for me to tailor) from clothes that do not fit well now, but will likely fit some time in the future (bc my weight fluctuates). Never thought of that before! I also have a hard time letting go of clothes, the set aside method has been working well for me to figure out if I will regret letting it go. And giving away to friends who have shared clothes etc with me and donating to local church clothes closets really helps! I know it has the best chance of getting worn and helping community members in need.
I have noticed that I love dresses but don't wear most of them because the big thing for me is needing them to be midi length, a breathable fabric or at least a poly knit and have a cute detail somewhere. Partially a fantasy self thing and partially what I do want. That area is definitely a style goal for this year. I'll be trying this system tonight.
I used to not wesr dresses and skirt really often altough I loved them. Until I worked somewhere were we had dresses for work (kinda like a uniform) and now I wear dresses and skirts all the time troughout the seasons. Maybe make it a challenge to style one dress once a week or once every 2 weeks. If you feel like you have nothing to wesr with ot try to think outside of the box.
I rarely wear dresses and feel even the few I have don’t deserve a place in my wardrobe - they take up space but don’t work hard. I find skirts to be more versatile. Going forward, I will not buy more dresses.
This video!❤️ I got some "how" that i'd love to wear but i don't use them not only because i don't know how to style it, is because i don't have seasons in my city and is mostly warm 😭 i love modest/earth root style but I'm learning to style it with 82+ temperature 🌱🌼☀️🍄
Hi Ellie-Jean! I noticed that a lot of your videos aren’t available anymore. Have you decided to private these videos are are they no longer available to be viewed in my country? All the best!
I’ve been using this method for years and it always helped me a lot! Didn’t realize this is a whole concept 😂 I really want to do this again, but I am pregnant right now and I have different needs, so I won’t be able to get rid of anything, until I will have my pre pregnancy size again. 🍒😘
I’m also one who saves my favorites so they don’t get worn out or stained😂 This goes for most of my new clothes too- I love wearing them, they’re perfect (since I’m now very intentional about the pieces I buy), but I want them to stay new😂 and so the pile of clothes I wear all the time are mostly not my favorites.
There was a news couple of decades ago that a certain celebrity in my country had her whole wardrobe burnt down, that she had to hire a stylist to buy new styles and re-arrange the remaining. Sometimes i feel like she did it on purpose because, girl, my clothes are out of style and piling on top of others.
I’m excited to do this soon! The weather is pretty much the same in my country through the year so I don’t have a problem with the seasonal clothes :) Do you have tips on how to manage buying stuff that you’ll never use again? I struggle with this cos I often declutter my wardrobe then end up buying more clothes after 😅
REALLY interesting to see your red mary-jane Vivaia shoes in the 'I'm not sure / not in love with this' pile! I wore mine out this weekend and when I saw myself in a photo, I thought they looked odd. (I'm also a Soft Classic, a True Summer, and am the same height and size, roughly, as you). Sad, given I paid so much for them :(
@@elliejeanroyden Ooh, which ones?! I love the black almond toe baller flats I got for work but would love another pair in a more Summer-friendly colour.
I dislike these systems so much. I have so few clothes. I absolutely hate what I wear but I have no choice because of where I live and work. So these systems tell me to get rid of any clothes I like because I dont wear them and to keep all these things I absolutely despise. Which I have to do anyway because i dont get a choice. I'm getting where I absolutely hate clothes.
It sounds like these systems aren’t designed for your circumstances!! I think of practicality items that I hate but need as a uniform (I grew up with school uniforms because almost all schools in my country have them). That minimises the hate for me because it makes it feel like part of my life instead of part of my self expression. Then everything else gets treated differently! When possible I try to make occasions that allow me to wear the things I actually love 💕
