Still amazes me when i find a new youtuber that I love. Loving your mix of level takes, critical eye, obvious love of games and the industry. Subscribed.
Brilliant take Mike, you know my thoughts on Journey to Foundation and how much I love that game, especially for all it's wonderful intricate interactions. I read through most of the reviews on the quest store and wonder if big influencers posting bad reviews (maybe because the game doesn't fit their agenda or taste) could also be a huge factor, mainly because you mention the word of mouth aspect... It would be such a shame if a small group of people got to decide what makes a great game or a poor game.
I didn't want to call out any creators for being honest in their opinions on the game, but frankly I think the top creators in VR generally fit into one of three categories: shooter fans, rhythm gamers, and social VR users. I can't help but notice how average to below average most of their takes are on single player games that don't fit any of those buckets. Having said that, Reddit players were not kind to Journey either. That example I put on screen was one of over a dozen I found in just a few minutes of looking. Sad ending to a longtime developer in the space and a stinging indictment for those of us who enjoy these kinds of games.
Damn, man. Earned a sub in the first minute. Yes, the constant VR hype channels do us a disservice. They cannot even really critique game's flaws. It's always endless hype. They are just chasing that Meta partnership and views. No integrity.
Full disclosure: I'm in the Quest Creator Program and have been for some time. Take one look at my channel and you'll see it doesn't stop me from being honest in my criticisms. No company should be above critiques.
AC Nexus did great for a VR game. Only Ubisoft was upset with it because its Ubisoft and they have extremely high expectations for every one of their games, WD S&S did great for VR the 2nd one just didn't do good cause of the game being rushed. Hopefully Behemoth isn't like that. Attack on titan is still the number one game on Quest, same thing with Among us which both games are doing great for VR marketing. Medieval Dynasty New Selltlement has done great and that's a great flat game. A lot of people are playing Cities VR and now that came has a following after they did updates to it. I do think big IPs are good for VR gamers. I think people just need to have different expectations, same goes for companies making these games as well. Not ever game is going to be a fortnite or ROBLOX or Gorilla Tag. But you can be profitable in the VR space even if you have a decent size dev team and it doesn't have to be a little experience or gimmick, but can be a story game. If youre trying to tell a story game then you need a good publisher, but if you're selling a multiplayer game then if you're a small team then you can do that. Just set realistic expectations for each game and studio or publisher
Oh totally, that's why I said "bad" results for Nexus. Did a whole video about Ubisoft not having realistic expectations for a VR game. I am PRAYING Behemoth is more like S&S 1 than 2. 2 is still a broken mess. The big thing about the examples you named (and I named Among Us) is that they're exceptionally well made games. My larger point was that with an IP, it's not okay to be average, because the expectations of gamers seemed to be raised thinking that big IP = AAA game and that's not the case. Journey was a perfectly average game, and that seemed to be its downfall. And if AoT had released at full price, no shot it's the number 1 game. The $5 price helped a LOT with that. I agree on the realistic expectations though. I think the Quest 2 explosion during CoVid skewed things a bit.
I'm enjoying journey but then I am more about story than combat also played some of triton I need to get back and finish that one is sad to see these dev companies go under but they need to stop releasing an unfinished game and then come back in a few weeks with a q3 update it is too little too late they need to launch with a finished product
In their defense, the game released two weeks after Quest 3 released. No game that released within 3 months of Quest 3’s launch (that’s 29 games), including Meta’s own Asgard’s Wrath 2, was Quest 3 enhanced. These texture upgrades take months to do and test, which is why you only saw existing games with upgrades in the first few months. Every game in development had to release as is, then go back and upscale.
The problem is everyone is looking for the new shiny game and I’m just as guilty. People buy them but don’t continue to play them. I’m feel bad for these devs. I hope Meta is not changing their platform from good VR game to just Social Media. If they do, they will lose me as a customer. These layoffs are not good!

Wow, thank you! More to come soon.
Damn, hope these Devs also find a new job soon. Scary times in game development.
Very scary.
Do you count ratings or reviews when calculate the average of 30 purchases?
Reviews was the rule of thumb I was told.
Got ya. Interesting.🤔
I didn't realize this was coming to Steam and now the studio is closing. :(
Yup, been out awhile now. :(

Very well put Mike and I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head there.
The way you stare at the screen I have to put caption on to see
The script you be reading from
No script. I have notes and just cut out the bits where I look down at them.
Is it possible Monopoly go have to come to VR in different worlds
I'm sure it exists in VRChat or Rec Room

How's it going Mike?
Trying to get back to regular uploads. I have a backlog of news I need to weigh in on, so no shortage of content.
@@liveopenmike Cool. Look forward to it.

Well this one in particular had nothing to do with Meta really. It struggled on 3 platforms unfortunately.
Com’on we new this they just didn’t it doesn’t work in any aspect of life to bring back life
uhm... okay?
