Happy new year thank you for all the wonderful videos and support and kindness you helped me through the year appreciate all the things I have and not buy the latest and greatest things ❤ I have the eos m, and my iPhone 12 Pro Max, and my t6s with a kit lens 18-135mm and I still enjoy life 😊❤🎉 love from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
If I didn't have any camera, I would buy this Z50 II, but since I have a Nikon D500 and a D3300 I don't see any advantage in buying a Nikon mirrorless. But if I'm going to migrate to a mirrorless system, I'd prefer an APS-C system from Canon or Fujifilm. But why don't the big camera manufacturers invest in more advanced APS-C lenses like the lenses for full frame sensors? Thanks for the honest and enlightening videos! Happy 2025!
Simple: they want to push people into the more profitable larger sensors. Personally full frame is obsolete, today APS-C is the same and a lot less expensive. ThaNKS!
The fact most newer full frame cameras keep increasing their mp. They're also lowering noise performance down to APS-C levels. Full Frame is becoming more and more niche as they do this. Also there's a handful of APS-C lenses that can surpass full frame. Like the Sigma f1.8 series art lenses. They don't have VR but you don't really need VR when they can open up +1.3EV more than say a 24-70 f2.8. The perceived DOF will look like full frame at 100%. If Sigma can make f1.8 mid range zooms, so can Nikon, Canon, and Fuji, but they don't.
Thanks for this tutorial. I've got mine 2 weeks ago. Let's see, what it can do tonight. ;-) About the mechanical shutter (@ 12:55): I've read that you can only choose it when you use a non VR lens. I've tried it with an TTArtisan 56/f1.8 and it seems to be true so far. Have a happy new year. CU in 2025.
I just added this to my written user guide at www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/z/z50-ii-users-guide.htm#grids Let me know if it works; this is what Nikon's manual says but I never got it to go! Thanks!
This is really helpful, Ken. Thanks and Happy New Year! BTW, I go back to 1973 when I got my first Nikon, an FTn. I started following articles or websites you long ago. When did you start sharing tips and info on Nikon? I'm too old now to remember!😂
I’d avoid it; the 28-400 isn’t that great at 400mm and a DX camera is likely to tax it even more. Stick with the 18-150 or 50-250 DX - or ideally the Canon EOS R10 and the excellent RF 100-400mm. Full reviews of everything at KenRockwell.com.
I've been thinking of upgrading, I can get a brand new d7500, for £500 ($600) which will mean i can still use all of my lenses, if I go, z50ii, more expensive and then I'll then have to outlay more cash for lenses, is there that much of a difference in picture quality, that a returning photographer would notice, not used my camera gear for about 5 years, but trying to get back in to my old hobby
same pictures. if you want to go mirrorless, I suggest a Canon APS-C rather than Nikon as Canon has a much more complete system actually made domestically in Japan with better support. Look at the EOS R10 and others at www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/compared/r7-r10-r50-r100-compared.htm Thanks!
@KenRockwellTV I have just spent a week up on the Isle of Skye 🏴, stunning scenery, (old man of storr, kilt rock, the Cuillins) herd's of deer, White tail eagles, buzzards, wild winter hares, and no camera, apart from my phone, time to upgrade 👍
All shown at the written review at www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/z/z50-ii.htm which I update regularly (I cant' go in and edit a YT video once published). Thanks!
Do you have any Nikon lenses? Or friends with Nikons? I switched from Pentax screw mount to Nikon when I started working at a newspaper in high school. They would loan me lenses, but never a body. Nikon was king then. Now, it's nice to have what your friends shoot with. The amateur market is dominated by Canon. You'll find many more of them!
For what? No one can answer this intelligently without knowing you and what you want to do. Actually the best answer is the Canon R10! www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/r10.htm Thanks!
Happy New Year Ken! Your website is the best source of information for us casual photographers.

All GREAT cameras. The person using them is far more important than the camera, eh! ThanKS!
@ eh! Canada 🇨🇦 you right! It’s about the person thank you for inspiring me to be happy 😊🥹🙏😭

For me the Main reason is Nikon Cloud Service and the easy way to Share pictures.

Thanks for this Ken!
Z50ii is on its way!
Question; can you set the U1, U2, and U3 settings independently for photo and video mode?
Happy New Year!
Thanks!
Excellent explanation. What I can't find is how to set the grid of thirds or quarters, both for photo and video. Thanks.
I just added this to my written user guide at www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/z/z50-ii-users-guide.htm#grids Let me know if it works; this is what Nikon's manual says but I never got it to go! Thanks!
Ren Kockwell your my hero
You’re awesome, Thanks!
This is really helpful, Ken. Thanks and Happy New Year!
BTW, I go back to 1973 when I got my first Nikon, an FTn. I started following articles or websites you long ago. When did you start sharing tips and info on Nikon? I'm too old now to remember!😂
On air since 1999! Thanks!
What about Nikon Z50ii with Nikkor Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR lens? I believe it could be pretty nice combination.
Active d-lighting only applies to jpeg files
It works if you open the raw pictures with the Nikon Software first, and convert to tiff.
Of course! JPGs are images, raw files are just data. Thanks!
Does it overheat when shooting long video clips like 1 hour
Sir i am nikon user, which is best body for wildlife photographs Nikon Zf or Nikon Z50ii. I love photographs
Z50 II is much newer. Get it. Thanks!

...must be physical design of lens aperture because you can't use 135mm Plena in Mechanical Shutter only either.
Beats me! Thanks!
Nikon z50ii mak 2 price

z50 2 or Canon r8?
R10 is the one.
@@kennygeorgeonline I'm leaning towards the r8 with a 35 and 50 prime. Maybe get the 28-70 later.
For what? No one can answer this intelligently without knowing you and what you want to do. Actually the best answer is the Canon R10! www.kenrockwell.com/canon/eos-r/r10.htm Thanks!
@@KenRockwellTV Full frame, lightweight, travel and architecture. Guessing the r8 is the way to go.
Tamron 70-300 for nikon is twice the price of the same for the Sony one.
Tamron? Honest? Thanks!
Nice kit but Canon R10 is the one to beat.
Agreed. Both are about equally good cameras, while Canon is a much better operation and the R10 is part of a much more complete system. Thanks!
Way to small for my hands it would feel like a child's toy
Small cameras are better. Thanks!
Grip extenders are available.
