For the people that don’t know, this song was aimed at her fans as an attempt to apologise (even though she didn’t need to) for her lack of “authenticity” in her sounds. Fans complained that she had given up on her original sound and gave in to the pressures of the current music industry (targeting the masses rather than your core fan base) so she made this song to inform her fans that she was going back to her old form of music ,which was what initially made her blow, in order to regain her core fan-base as depicted in her lyrics if you dissect carefully and also that nostalgic sound of the beat & her flow in concordance. More of a garage/edm/jazz sound.

I get it but as an artist the reality is an artist should not be boxed in by critics or fans. As artists our job is creative expression primarily and then we can appreciate the people who admire and support our art in our artistic journeys. As a music fan I get it, we like what we like and when we find artists that make what we like we tend to box them in, disregarding their creative process and journey. I fell in love with Kendrick's 2010 to 2012 approach to rap and music however if he was hindered from evolving he wouldn't have released Projects like To Pimp A Butterfly and Untitled Unmastered which in many peoples opinions (mine included) was his best work and not only revolutionized how we perceive Hip Hop but how we view music altogether. His music and ideas are subject to studies in Universities and even some high schools today because of his subject matter and manner of approach to these two projects in particular, and we can thank his creative freedom for that. Lord knows what music he would have released (or even who he would be) had he conformed to what his core fans or even the mainstream was expecting of him. IAMDDB took a risk in taking a more trap approach and I admire her for that, I just cant believe her fans couldn't support her in that decision.... She was about to change the game but her being her, I bet she still is.
@KillBilly13 what steared me away from her was the throwing money around in a video that was put out, I felt that set a bad example for herself, the fans and showed a detachment from what I tuned into with her. Also like you mentioned, the beat style changed... I haven't typed ddb into a search bar for almost 4 5 years. I understand wat ur saying about creative expression and an artist not wanting to do the same stuff for an eternity tho. Vibes come and go. Nobody should be trapped or boxed in but I do think artists should be careful of things they choose to embrace.. for example I don't want to hear slipknot jamming out barbie girl. All appeal ends and as a fan I'm instantly looking for the next best thing, when eminem started making commercial pop records with Rihanna so i found a whole new branch of grime, UK hip hop and so on. The symbolism that was in the video I mentioned didn't only alienate viewers it was massivly alarming leaving me to imagine wtf was going through her head. Why would such a wholesome person show something so vulgar... Imo amyway. Anyway good to see something positive here
I mean you're right but "carefully disect" is giving yourself a bit much credit lol. She literally explicitly states this idea in the intro skit. I appreciate the context as I didn't know, but it's not exactly some 5head shit.
