I've listed to this song for years. When I listen to this song, its basically a metaphor that women are the forbidden fruit. When men deny the feminine divine, it ends up driving them crazy. I think that part goes without saying, it really is her voice and her vocal range that sets her apart from all the other "Bubble Gum Princesses" (ABRA's own words referring to other female vocalists). It is pretty special when music is so special that I can close my eyes and get chills, I hear the ghost of every great to of ever of came before ABRA, in every verse she sings. In particular, her vocals in "Fruit" are flat out hypnotic by the truest definition of the word, I have this track loaded in my MP3 player in my truck and while R&B is typically a hard sell to my white friends, every one of them has wanted to listen to her tracks over and over again.
