Reasons I regret formula-feeding my child

  • ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️....

    I don’t. 👀

    My decision to formula-feed Ryaan was due to physical complications during his delivery and my decision to stop pumping. I made the best choice for Ryaan, myself, and my mental health. (but really, parents don’t need to give a reason to NOT breastfeed as this in itself can create formula stigma)

    Three years later (and even within that first year) I had zero regrets about this decision because as an IBCLC and Pediatrician, I know that we are lucky to have formula to feed our babies!

    Through this decision, I discovered how important it is to support mothers, fathers, and caregivers to make the best choices for themselves and their babies-free of guilt.

    I encourage you all to listen to your own desires as you feed your babies.
    ➡️ Maybe this will look like breastfeeding past your child’s second year of life.
    ➡️ Maybe it will look like a combination of breast milk and formula.
    ➡️ Maybe it will look like solely pumping.
    ➡️ Maybe it will look like solely formula feeding.
    ➡️ Maybe it will look like tube feeding.

    How we feed 🍼 our infants may be different, but one thing that is common is our love for our babies.

    For baby on-the-way, I am still deciding if we will formula feed or exclusively pump. Those are my two decisions as of now and I know we will make the best decision for our family.

    How did you feed your baby? Either way, your child was fed, loved, and safe. 💓

    I had also very low milk supply .. my inlaws introduced bottle very early even though i didnt want to .. still I maintained my pumping schedule and it has helped with my supply. Thank god after 40 days of stay at my inlaws . i went to my moms house. And she encouraged me to bring my daughter to breast every now and then .. after trying millions of times when my daughter was 4.5 month she was suddenly on exclusively breastfeeding. It was not less than a miracle for me
    To all the ladies i say just take that support you want ..talk to someone and share your desire to feed your baby your own milk.
    If i can do it after so manu things like nipple confusion rejecting breasts.. me and my baby has finally made it .. she is now 5.5 months old . She is exclusively breastfed now . And i feel empowered and confident as i can nurture my baby with my own milk .
    So dont loose hope just keep trying 🙏🏻

      Nah breast fed babies are way healthier and stronger generally speaking. Because the nutrients they get from their mothers are natural and they get antibodies from their mothers milk which helps strengthen their immune systems to fight of germs and bacteria. My baby is both breast and bottle fed but if I could it would make it solely breast.

    I feel you! I had so many issues with milk supply. One of them wasn’t producing any and it messed up the production of the other one. They put me on medication but I wasn’t able to operate machinery on it, and I had to go back to work full time, so I unfortunately had to go to formula. I had been doing every other feeding with breast milk but it just wasn’t enough as she grew older. I would wear the pumping bras all day and night. Man was I sore and bleeding. And I’d only get like 6 oz a day. I remember the day I went to formula. Baby was crying so much and I was so tired. I finally decided to try one of the cans of formula I was given. She was so hungry. I cried from relief that she was getting fed and I cried even harder thinking about how I must be less of a woman for not being able to provide for my baby. She’s been on only formula for about 4 months and she’s 8 months old now. She’s 23 lbs and she eats about 30 oz of formula a day now, and my mental health has significantly improved since I can now do my job, come home and be a mom, and take care of my house without the added struggle of taking a bunch of medicine and having to eat lactation cookies all day, and have bloody nipples for only a few drops of milk.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved. If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Honestly hand expression done properly is amazing for increasing volume and even for emptying the breasts far better than pumping. With all the recalls and health issues linked to formula I'll be sticking to the natural method of feeding my baby. Beyond that...breast milk is Magick stuff! Replaces so many unnecessary products for both baby and momma. I wish we were better educated on these things by the hospitals before going home with newborns. No judgment ro the moms opting for formula...we all do our best&many situations are different. For those able to physically produce it though...nothing compares Honestly.

      It's unlikely related to the formula, standard formula has the same caloric intake as breast milk and babies come in all shapes and sizes. And they all reach milestones at different times

    • @dr6124
      @dr6124 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@pedsdoctalktv9960 not the "same caloric intake".... It will have the same calorie density as breastmilk but will lack the hormones found in breastmilk and therefore the signals to baby that they have had enough food are less and they will take in more calories. This is why babies when bottle fed usually throw up their food more, because the don't know when to stop.
      Isn't it convenient that babies will take in more than they need from the powdered milk which is made in a factory and sold by companies for profit?....I'm sure those companies regret making excess money 🤔

    Everyone, i am a mother who had exclusively formula fed my baby from month 1. I don't have even a table spoon of breast milk. Even though I'm thankful for having an alternative option like formula, i regret having to have fed my little one with that. With the high infant diabetes rate and amount of added sugar in baby formula, i will never recommend this to anyone unless it's an utter necessity.
    I slowly started substituting formula with cow milk when my baby turned 6 months. I know doctors don't recommend this. The same doctors recommended the formula milk with highest added sugar content in my country( the sweet nestle). And that same is what i had given my baby for months before doing a thorough study on this.
    If anyone wants to really know why i switched to 'cow' milk and what all were my findings, let me know here.

      I just gave birth to my 9th baby, he is being supplemented with formula. I have breastfed 7 babies with no issues. The last two I have needed to supplement for their health. It was either supplement or sacrafice their needs. Trust me this grieved my heart both times as I have been adamant about nursing. Currently trying to get my body to get my body to make enough milk for my 1 month old, who is far behind on his weight gain. Going through this I could absolutely see how a mom would feel the need to entirely switch to formula. I have considered it more then once, because I want him to be healthy. And trying to balance between formula/nursing and not knowing how much he is getting is so very hard.
      Your reply is incredibly unkind to those who have made a different choice then you. I am a strong advocate of breastfeeding, and do think there can be selfish reasons for a mother to fornula feed, but we do not know the circumstances or levels of support another mother may have. Or the body issues she may struggle with.
      Please do not use my Lord and saviors name on your account if you are going to be so viscously unloving. What are the two greatest commandments?
      As for people in the past, yes they did have healthier food then us, but wven then women could not always provide milk for their babies. People would get wet nurses, neighbors help, or animal milk, or in very unfortunate cases where they had no access to help their children would end up very sickly or possibly even die.

    Go with European formulas like Hipp if you cannot breastfeed! European formulas have a better safety standards and cleaner ingredients. American brands put too much sugar/maltodextrin and other harmful ingredients in baby formula now. Make sure you do your own RESEARCH and be thorough! ❤

    Wow what a beautiful baby. I hope you are a praying woman in the name of Jesus Christ. There are some psycho's in this thread. One comment said now im gonna stay your baby and the other said the baby was crazy. That ain't nothing that Jesus can't take care of because the devil is a liar. Stay prayed up and be viligant when it comes to the babies and children. God bless y'all.

    The formula lacks the essential antibodies, and it is clearly stated on the packaging that there is no substitute for breast milk. However, if there are no other viable options, it is acceptable to use formula.

    Not breastfeeding is selfish

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      Totally disagree. You don't know another's circumstances. There are many valid reasons people don't breastfeed including but not limited to medical contraindications, baby feeding difficulty, lack of resources and support, parental mental health and more. I'd encourage you not to jump to judgement and criticism but instead be curious and supportive of others you may know very little about. I'm sure you'd appreciate the same grace❤

      @@pedsdoctalktv9960 if able to breastfeed and choose to do not, i think it's selfish. It's fair to not if there is a valid reason why they can't (e.g. mum can't produce milk) but i think for the vast majority it's a choice to a large degree. If children in Africa and India are almost exclusively breastfed compared to western countries, trust me, it's a choice. "My nipples hurt too much" and it being "not convenient" are both selfish choices.
      Breast milk has antibodies and hormones, Nestlé protein powder doesn't. People just can't make sacrifices anymore, not even for their own little baby. It's sad.

    • @pedsdoctalktv9960
      @pedsdoctalktv9960  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Nestle protein powder is not equivalent to formula. And why should maternal mental health not also be a priority? How can we expect a suffering mother to adequately care for an infant? Babies can grow and thrive on formula, you have to look at the whole picture of everyone's health and it's a personal decision that most moms do not make lightly, especially with so many judgmental opinions out there similar to your own.@@dr6124

    • @dr6124
      @dr6124 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      @@pedsdoctalktv9960 I'm calling formula 'nestle protein powder ' because it pretty much is. It's a supplement at best, that's why it says "it's recommended that you breastfeed for the first 6 months" on every container of formula.
      If the mother is mentally ill, and 'suffering' as you put it, why do you think carrying on through pregnancy, giving birth and not caring for a child afterwards is a preferred choice than say abortion? It sounds a bit unfair on the child but you may be against women being pro-choice?
      But going back to what i said, there is no way that the difference in formula fed babies in USA vs developing world countries can be explained other than mostly frivolous choices i.e. "don't have the time" or "it's too sore".
