I think you're the first to actually do a commentary on Threshers! I've never seen a TV program do one on these for some reason. I know they're rare, but I didn't think they would be as difficult to get on camera in contrast to rarer sharks (ie. Goblins).
2:38 "The captain drives the boat with just the throttle on a string and a long pole to the rudder. Without any electronic or GPS, the captain finds the seamount with just experience and knowledge of the local waters, even though we are miles from shore, with no landmarks on the horizon." 4:48 "Amazingly, the captain has anchored us within 50 feet of where we were yesterday! How does he do it?" MABUHAY MGA MANGINGISDANG PILIPINO! 🇵🇭🇵🇭 (long live Filipino fishermen)
The thresher shark was my favorite shark in my childhood days because I thought it looked cooler than any other shark. And I still think that to this day.
Great video, are you doing this for a living or just for the fun ? I really would love to go diving, I think I'll take a dive when im in egypt again, there must be awesome animals in the water :)
Oh my goodness!! I can't believe that I am your fan and I comment with one of your great video and then it came to my surprise you've reply!!! Geez, you can observe our Rare Nautilus here in the Philippine Seas or our Horseshoe Crab, Dorado fish, Butanding, Sun fish, Rays, Napoleon fish, clamps Turtles and even our Dolphins. Many great fishes are living in the sea here in Philippines. Would love to see your documentary.
Hello Jonathan! I'm a fan of your videos, shark videos in particular! I hope to see one in the wild one day. Speaking of sharks, you should go back to Malapascua between January to April, for you'll most likely see an aggregation of hammerheads on a new seamount called Kimud Shoal. I know you're not new into hammerhead aggregation since I saw your white-tip reef shark video, but perhaps you might wanna go back to this spot. :)
A pregnant thresher washed up on the beach where I live just outside a friends house I didn't realise that they were this rare so awesome love your videos!
I keep coming back to this video because this is my favourite, and also one of the firsts I've seen from BlueworldTV. The past few days I've been diving in Malapascua and was also fortunate to see these thresher sharks. They are so beautiful 😍 and because of the pandemic there weren't a lot of divers. In fact, I think there were more sharks than divers during my 3 dives. They swam above, below, and next to us, closest must be around 8ft. They didn't seem spooked that much and I tried to control my breathing but how could you breathe normally when something this stunning was floating above you. Ahhh I can't stop talking about it lol. I also did nitrox course while I was there. We didn't see the manta ray and the octopus but we saw one or two white tip sharks. Thank you again for inspiring us to dive! Before this video I had no idea what thresher sharks were or that they could be found in the Philippines.
This is one of the most beautiful & special creatures that exists on our planet. It deserves fully protected status. Who knows even what damage the catch & release fishing of this species may be causing. Not to mention the consequences of fishing them out just because they have larger fins. The Whitetip Oceanic is another shark seriously endangered by overfishing, as well as Blue Sharks. These deep ocean sharks that live far out to sea are the cleaners of the wider oceans, as well as being apex predators in their environments. We continue to over fish & pollute the ocean at our peril. Somehow, it must be stopped. The general populations of this planet need to take these issues very seriously & demand change or we won't have a home. A few will destroy it for us all.
i agree with you it is recorded that Puerto Rico, China and mostly taiwan has over catch the Shark for its Fins because of demand of Fin soup. yet they care what is the effect of their over fish. they ignored the consequences of their action. if the shark extinct due to over fishing it will kill also the other sea creature. i am guessing they have no idea about it, what they only think is making money.
This dive site is still amazing until now. This morning we dive there and we saw 4 Thresher Sharks circling together, Lot's of divers too. Thanks Jonathan for uploading the video. This is amazing!
@@BlueWorldTV Seems like that. :) Unlike Manta, Eagle, and Devil Ray shows up once in a while and disappear in the area. Days ago we dive there again and saw a giant devil ray. It was really amazing seeing those creature.
great video of what we have in our country. i hope our marine seas will be preserve as pristine as they the nature should be through your educational documentaries. i appreciate you for exposing our beautiful seas and whats in it. Love the vid
BEAUTIFUL! Thank you so much for opening the eyes of others about their perspectives about the sharks. I know to myself that sharks are friendly 💙 i love sharks 💙
This is a great presentation of deep sea life. Johnathan Bird is like a real-life Steve Zissou. There’s an almost Wes Anderson-esque quality about his videos - this one in particular moreso than his others. Very enjoyable, thank you!
I love the ocean and I'm trying to convince everyone that it's not as scary as what they think. My first snorkeling made me love the ocean even more. I like Philippines because of the variety of sea creatures. The coral reef is so vibrant and it mesmerizes me. Be careful with the jellyfish tho.
The reason why I like this guy: He is trying to convince the world that half of the ocean creatures doesn't want to kill you.
LOL
Hahaha yeah but really the superior ones really do- including the octopus
"WE" are the one killing it.
Just half? Still nope
Well duh the dude is a professional diver. You should try it yourself and let's see if your dumbass won't become an entree for ocean creatures.
My father is a Filipino diver and he always mention thresher shark when we talk about under the sea.
you have an awesome father then!😍
What does your father say about thresher sharks?
Lol that tail is just a food in the Philippines haha its kind a dry fish the taste of that thresher sharks tail is good.

They are cute, but they aren't seatigies...
Go17Gabe They my favorite too
Look on to their eyes bro its silently cute
I like the way he narrates. Talking about the marine life and the ocean enthusiastically like there's no danger lurking in the deep.
Thank you! At least someone likes my narration!
If you didn't know. Threshers are so cute
they have cute eyes
Blue sharks is more cuter than the thresher sharks i think
I really do agree I draw hammerhead sharks and thrashes the most. These two animals are my most favorite animals in the world.
