Ontario Health Insurance Plan covers for most of the health facilities that you need while you are staying in canada. It will cover the medical expenses for people on workpermit, PR and citizens. Students have their health insurance covered through their College.

** OHIP covers many health services you may need, such as: **
👉 appointments with your family doctor
👉 visits to walk-in clinics and some other health care providers
👉 visits to an emergency room
👉 medical tests and surgeries
👉 ambulance services

** OHIP does not cover: **
👉 prescription drugs(Medicines) provided in non-hospital settings (e.g. antibiotics prescribed by your family doctor).
👉 dental services provided in a dentist’s office
👉 eyeglasses, contact lenses
👉 laser eye surgery
👉 cosmetic surgery

*** Only share your health card number with health care professionals who are entitled to have it, such as:
👉 doctors
👉 nurse practitioners
👉 hospitals
👉 chiropractors
👉 optometrists

You can use your health card as a form of identification for other reasons, but no one else can record or copy your health card number. If your health card number falls into the wrong hands, it could be used to access to your personal health information or for OHIP fraud.

👉 Collect the documents you need.
👉 Take your application and documents to your local ServiceOntario location

👉 a completed Registration for Ontario Health Insurance Coverage form
three separate, original (not photocopies or printouts of electronic documents)
👉 identification documents (see detail below):
one that proves your Canadian citizenship or OHIP-eligible immigration status (e.g. Canadian birth certificate, Permanent Resident Card, working permit )
👉 one that proves you live in Ontario (e.g. Ontario Driver’s Licence, income tax assessment)
👉 one that supports your identity (e.g. credit card, passport from any country)
