From a SAND conversation with Edward Frenkel, mathematician, Berkeley professor and author of the international bestseller “Love and Math,” hosted by Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo.
In this conversation, we explore the nature of reality and the fallacy of the naive ideas of determinism and computationalism. Drawing on the landmark achievements of modern mathematics and quantum physics, Frenkel makes the case that consciousness is not computational, that intuition and imagination cannot be captured by algorithms.
A regular presenter at the SAND conferences, Frenkel has long argued that the debate about the capabilities and dangers of artificial intelligence can be traced to the question “Who am I?” Hence it creates an opportunity for us to go deeper on the path of self-inquiry. To facilitate this process, it is essential to let go of the misconceptions of the science of the 19th century and to update our worldview with the paradigms of the science of the 21st century. A mind-expanding dialogue about the Infinite nature of consciousness, limits of knowledge, and the alchemy of transformation.

It’s when we resonate in silence « L’Impensée de L’Intelligible » that we are feeling the real connection of the Love we are.

I highly recommend looking into Michael Levin's work in bio-electricity. It may seem unrelated, but I'd say, it's by and far the most empirically grounded approach to really seeing the whole; how even simple algorithms, simple physical processes, are "not" just computational in the classic sense. It's very much a religious experience seeing the potential of even the simplest, humblest systems in nature.

Yes, I agree. Michael Levin’s work and approach is breathtaking and brings forth a sense of awe and the sacred for me often. I love his discussions/collaborations with people in different fields.

It's an innate trait to recocnize and utilize mathematics. Not only in Human behavior and creativity but, now being observed in the plant, animal, mycellial, mineral, and force behavior. The mathematical reach of interspecies communication also is a litmus for degrees of self awareness. The connection is ao primal and sacred math is a real thing.

We are a 'piece' of this universe...a "avatar" of 'consciousness'...the ultimate field for creation. So that "IT"... "CONSCIOUSNESS"... could have this EXPERIENCE in ALL IT'S manifestions. -namaskaram

1:35:07 Spot on! AI, that is absolutely true. AI is a fallacy. It's our ignorance that we think we can beat billion years of evolution. First, we assumed that intelligence is the most superior system of surviving, which is false. The ants, in terms of weight, have more than all other species combined. We define something that, to us, matters, and then we call it 'we got it.' The story of the Turing machine, that we said if we have a machine that can build and talk to another room, we did something godly. Moreover, the facade of AI is funny because over 1000 humans are working to give us the impression of AI. It's like someone calling Avatar real because it looks real; it has nothing to do with reality. We call a simple electric device a SMARTphone just for marketing purposes, and the same applies to AI. It is a pleasure to see people like Ed exist, who call out this thing. I, for one, cannot say thanks enough for your bravery and intelligence.

Your infinitesimal free will (in relation to absolute free will of God) is enough to give you the experience of freedom yet not violent enough to disturb God's mathematics, which determines everything yet allows everyone.

It seems that most objections towards Robert Sapolski are expressed in an anger-ridden dialog which never quite expresses tangible reason....just anger at the apparent accusation that Robert Sapolsky is being authoritative and dogmatic about his conjecture on no free-will.
