My CX-9 only has 66k miles and dealership says I need this done by next oil change. How can I tell if I really need to replace the tensioner? Great tutorial! I may just do this myself and save $400.
There can be a few different signs. If the belt is loose or squeaking/grinding it could be the tensioner. Mine was leaking fluid so I knew it was time or it would be very soon.
Where is the hydraulic fluid? Is it inside the tensioner? Dealership says mine is leaking fluid. But, I know that Mazda is a little different, other cars Ive had did NOT have fluid for the belt tensioner.
yes, there is a special plastic cover. remove wheel, remove plastic, then you have access like on video. remember to secure car, when lifted, don't risk your health as some force will have to be used
Would be easier to support the engine with a jack and just remove the engine mount. Thats how ive always done my belt tensioner work. A lot more room from the top
Mine just had a 20k mile service and dealership told me I had to replace it😱 Tensioner is dirty like yours, but I really don't know bc there is dirt everywhere in there!
I also have this clatter noise whilst accelerating hard , I had a new Tensioner fitted 12k miles ago and I think this one sounds louder then the last that failed .

@@homemechanics3349 Leaking fluid for 3 years already maybe i should change it now. Me oem pulley lasted 45k miles sadly.
This is a great video! How much mileage does this car have?
I’m at about 115k
Fantastic video! Thank you so much.
Update: replaced! Removing the wheel well cover was the biggest p.i.t.a. Your instructions were spot on.
Great video. Do you trust the replacement pulley not to have the same problem as the OEM pulley?
I couldn’t guarantee that a replacement wouldn’t fail eventually too, but the first one lasted over 100k miles.

Yes, they have hydraulic fluid inside the tensioner. If it’s leaking it should be replaced.
So did you go through the wheel well at all? or just come up from under the car. Want to take off as least as many parts as possible on my Mazda 6.

check for damper leaks and belt cracks. you can buy whole lart for 70$, i stead from Mazda. they use INA with Mazda logo
Did you ever hear a clattering noise coming from this pulley while driving?
I never have, no.
I have

Is there a way to replace the belt with a broken hex screw that relieves tension?
Not easily @EBdaBest
Man I broke the bolt 😭 😊
SubhanAllah
😭
Lol thats crazy. You had one job
