I just did mine.. 2001 115 Always a big mess PITA. Terrible design! BUT, it’s done LOLOL My thermostat was bad too. Your son is awesome helper!! All the best from NJ!
Excellent video; super helpful! my first outboard turns out to be the same exact engine. Thank you so much Wish you had some more on outdrive oil change and diagnostic software integration. 😉
May I suggest to improve the full draining of all contaminants, ease of removal of filter, run the engine to operational temperature on the flushing muffs. Also for the sake of the bearings and pump, please fill the oil filter with oil prior to fitment, so the paper element is soaked. You fill when you start to do the draining process, the oil soaks into element and there is barely any to spill when fitting. Starting on a dry filter creates a situation whereby oil pressure takes a while to build and bearing surfaces can get damaged.
Thank you for the video. Just bought a Yamaha 115.
Another favorite channel is Dr. Shawn Baker. He will set you straight.

Than k you for your comment about the environment! Great job. What’s your son’s name?
Very informative. Do you have one on replacing your water pump or impeller?
Not yet but will have one soon.
Great video...I have the same engine. Do you have one checking the impeller?
Dangar marine
Is this the same as winterizing? Does this engine need to be fogged? I have the same motor
I live and Florida and never had to winterize my motor. Sorry I couldn’t help.

No problem , great video
TIP FOR REMOVING ANY OIL FILTER: Run the engine to normal operating temp. Oil filters will be MUCH easier to remove.
