Well one of Oda’s big themes when it comes to bad leaders is their irresponsibility. The responsibility of being a ruler is big and many squander that for their own benefit.
So I do think it would be super interesting to have a subversion of that where the bad thing happening to the culture is the stripping away of their ideals by a good-natured king. For a good comparison in this analogy I could see Elbaf’s people as being the Celestial Dragons (hear me out) whereas King Harald is the Donquixote Homing.
Doing something for the right reasons that is just completely unheard of and considered utter blasphemy by the people they come from.
So maybe Loki existed to be the townsfolk of wherever Homing lived and crucified his dad first like the citizens did to Homing, Doflamingo and Rocinante?

The subversion of Elbaf from our expectations, as well as its cultural identity now vs then, could be a great opportunity for Oda to tackle "Heritage" and "Cultural Identity" on a much larger scale, and showing the net negative of pursuing pacifism in a violent world, as well as showing the flipside of relying on the violent pride of olden days; how "pride" is but a capsule of the time it was made in, and to bring back said pride can uproot the balance of a peace-leaning world (not the One Piece world as a whole, but a culture pushing away from their past). I also think the subversion here, as made clearly by a lot of ppl covering their thoughts on elbaf, is to make the conflict that's to come upon the shores of elbaf all the more poignant, with consequences that can't be unrung (like Kuma *Potentially* getting his memories and identity back, partly hoping that's not the case, that's me just spitballing) . The Pride of Elbaf can be both a call for joy and tragedy, not just for those unaware of its existence, but those pushing for its return.

It will come to a head if there’s an actually dangerous situation- if the Giants outside of the Giant Warrior Pirates’ groups react by doing nothing as the kids are potentially kidnapped or if they start getting killed- then the issue really becomes apparent.
A persons true character is shown when you take them out of their comfort zone

If Loki wasn't chained to a tree, I'd say he would be a good one. Then again, his existence could function as a reason to keep the warrior spirit.... in case he escapes.

One interesting little thing is that for a little while Hajrudin was completely forgotten due to the Toy Toy Fruit. It is easy to imagine possible consequences to that period of time but also hard to actually notice its effects right now. It's an interesting thought experiment.

I think one of the things Oda is going to tackle in this arc is being too pacifist. Because you can be so peaceful, you can become complacent, and it feels like Elbaph has swung too far in the other direction.

I’ve noticed a pattern, the 2 islands that were hyped up the most (wano and elbaf) have been the exact opposite of what we’ve been told they were, swordsmanship was outlawed in wano and elbaf is no longer a war hungry nation. There’s one other island that has been hyped up, laughtale, I no longer think that the one piece is on laughtale, it’s probably under Mariejoa but Imu can’t do anything cause they’re not a d clan member or something

I believe it will be Usopp who restores Elbaf's pride.
Elbaf has to be Usopp's arc and this would be the greatest moment he could possibly have, to restore the honor of those he held highest and reverse their roles, having them look at him as a figure worthy of admiration and finally cementing him as a brave warrior of the sea.

My personal theory is that 1: harald was king during the flashback, 2: knew what caramel was actually doing, 3: was working with the world government, possibly preparing elbaph for annexation.

It’s good stuff. I think if you’re gonna talk about what happens in a OP arc you need to reverse engineer from Luffy’s eventual end goal. Which is freedom happiness and a party. Maybe the oppression on Elbaf is being forces to stick to any singular identity?

Loki said he would defeat a pirate crew for luffy, so it seems that he might have a code of honour that only allows him to defeat 'evil' pirates indicating he has good morals. I can't really see taking him up on that offer tho. So what might happen is that luffy frees him and Loki himself notices a pirate enemy and goes to take them out as a way to pay luffy back. I think this enemy pirate crew could the Blackbeard Pirates, and this way BB can kill Loki and steal him DF.

Seeing how the kids were so quick to dogpile on Collon for being violent actually makes me wonder how they treat the older giants, a majority of which seem to still be warriors as far as we can see. Like is it the norm on Elbaf for the kids to be frightened or scornful of the adults? That sounds both incredibly stressful and pretty sad.
And then there's Dorry and Broggy who Luffy and Usopp adore, but are probably nightmares to the kids of Elbaf. Imagine knowing nothing but peace for most of your short life and all of a sudden these two strangers who have been gone for a century fighting each other and decapitating dinosaurs show up. Kind of reminds me how some little kids are terrified upon meeting Santa, if Santa was a giant burly viking.

There is a theory going around that says Mother Carmel was the one who convinced King Harold that Elbaf should become a peaceful land in order to weaken them so the World Government could take over. Idk if it makes sense, but knowing what we know about Mother Carmel i don't think it's impossible.

1st? Sick timing. Also wonder if the loss of their pride is tied to the scourge of Loki making the younger people and parents reflect on their warrior ways as antiquated and self destructive, wanting a safer future for their kids

Fun and possibly related fact. While the vikings that sailed west got the barbarian reputation that modern pop culture make them out to be, the vikings that sail east towards Constantinople were at the time more known as traders.

I hope Oda won't waste an opportunity to show that it's not okay to be scared of war and it's not okay to vage wars for fun, you need to be in the middle. As the quote goes "Only strong can be kind." I see the moment where Colun defends other children and shows them that you can be peaceful, but you have to be strong to defend those who you love and care about. All in all, that's just Shanks's philosophy, everything's cool until you fuck up and attack, then I fuck you up.

    • @regiman222

Peaceful doesn't mean defenceless or meek, it just means you won't be the one throwing the 1st punch.
Shanks is actually a great example of that kind of idea.

I'm still not sure where we're going with this whole pacifism-thing. It's great that we as the community already opened a discussion about it, that's what we should do. But I'm curious if Oda will take a stance and lean on one perspective: Criticizing or endorsing this change.

I’m actually glad Oda explored this because, since Little Garden, I never found what Dorry and Broggy did-fighting to the death for 100 years over a silly reason-as a noble or honorable thing. It’s beyond stupid. Imagine your father fighting to the death for a long time over something so trivial. You’d call that stupid. But no, the fandom defends it as noble because Oda said it’s noble and honorable. Objectively speaking, though, we all know it’s very dumb, stupid, and reckless
