Very insightful conversation. As a black physician for over 20 years, I will say that just like any other avenue or profession in this country, racism, and biased definitely exist. Am I opinion, our best strategy going forward is to make sure that we find medical professionals that connect with us, respect us and listen to us. Also, I am asking all patients to try and be the best advocate for yourself by taking care of yourself and avoiding things that can make you ill to begin with. Most of the medicine that we practiced today is against treating and mitigating complications from chronic conditions most of which that are related to lifestyle choices too often we are making ourselves sick and the healthcare industry is full of chemicals to try to treat symptoms and complications from a condition without actually fixing the condition.
I had a heart attack on a Tuesday evening and the ER cardiologist wrote for me to return to work that Friday morning. When I had my daughter 30 years ago, I was discriminated against.
I had private health insurance from my job and they kept asking me for my medicaid card.
I told them, I'm not on welfare. Smh
They took my baby away from me asap.
I wanted to lay my baby on me.
I didn't see my baby until the next day.
Woke me up in an aggressive way.
Made me walk out of the hospital, wouldn't stroll me out like the white women.
Didn't give me the mommy classes I paid for.
It's micro ish like that that makes you angry.
The gaslighting is real.
Then they tell you to calm down???
😮 😟 😠 🤬 😡 👿
That's why they're upset with the clap back of the year... Bleached Blonde Bad Built Butch Body. 😆
I'm sorry but that gave us the lift the World needed.
Happy Memorial Day! 💜
I experience this all the time but no one believe me💔
Try to find a Physician that is your race. I have 2 and my care is much better with them than when i had other race Doctor's.
MIDWOOD alum! Blessings!
Microaggression declines overall quality of health.
Thank You Dr. Uche'. But who is really surprised?
She is beautiful and intelligent. Very informative ❤
I was waiting to hear her mom’s story
Her name is from Igbo language of southern Nigeria. Uche means the mind .
Thank you, Dr!
Bravo. Same situation in law especially in California.
Thank-You!!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
It’s a moral issue. Doctors treat us as experiments.
De Uche is Nigerian ! No wonder the excellence .
I’ve seen how “they” treated these physicians. Imagine how “they” treat the patients.
I know a few people lived in NJ state then got Cancer and died. It sounds like a good & factual book
🫡 Ty Doc!! Overdue indeed.
she is by no means the first person to write a book about this!
We need our own HOSPITAL, we act like we are slow. History is the best research to reward future behavior.
Seriously: when is enough-enough?
Giving black children preventative care for diseases that are more likely to effect white children versus giving them the preventative care against diseases they themselves are more susceptible to instead is an example of medical discrimination.
I'm not sure why this behavior is still this prevalent but this is America whether people want to realize it or not and this doctor said nothing but the truth. A relative is in the medical industry and has shared how other staff members instantly dismiss her until she shows her credentials then the tune changes. This is insanity! Gotta do better!
THIS IS SO TRUE CANT EVEN GET TO A CLINIC WITHOUT SOMEONE PICKING PN YOU JUST FOR THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN THIS IS SAD
Well, all I can say is welcome to the discrimination club as a black gay person. I know what you’re talking about. I told you we have a lot in common.
I missed how/why her mom died of leukemia?
Racism/prejudice definitely affects your mental and much more. I know this from experience and I'm still dealing with it now. I'm working on it by getting closer to God and practicing mindful meditation. Try
Wouldn't it be interesting if we all got to spend a month as a different race and gender?
yup.
Maybe a year or so. To really start to feel some of those nuances that are missed in general observation. All races included!
If that happened, a third of us would be dead and a third would be insane. The remaining third MIGHT live differently.
Great story.......Gail rocking Hanifa and almost got ot right!
Why tf are we having this conversation today.
Blessings
We need nurses like Sexy Red, Cardi B and Glo Rilla
Wowww😮😮😮 doctors all through the family from Harvard and whoa professor of medicine @ the very same time🤔😏
She failed at giving us TOOLS that we can use to improve our healthcare experiences. Saying that it's "unacceptable" is not enough. I hope there's more concrete information in her book. 😮😮😮
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
As a black person watching this video, it is depressing to hear this. I couldn't watch the entire video.
That's a lie there are significant physical differences between, melinated and non melinated. For a small example, watch a video called we are different by Dr. Afrikaans, we can not many of the prescriptions for Caucasians the American general of medicine is based on male caucaisins, and that's how these physicians are taught. Listen to how this quest speaks in her articulation clearly done to make the non melinated feel comfortable and not threaten.
Infinite needs, unlimited wants, but nothing is free. Somebody has to WORK FREE for someone else who is not working. That’s called slavery. And in this scenario only one group gets the free stuff…everyone else must suffer for them.
💜💜
I agree
I would like if just once someone would push back and ask for evidence on these claims of "racism".
