+Philip Vonleipzig Better a dead hero of the Imperium than a multi-armed-snake-daemon-thing with a taste for things best left unsaid I say ;) In answer to your question I sold him, he is now in retirement somewhere in sunny California. Thanks for the comment :)
Philip Vonleipzig Yeah, I'm biased but you have to give it to The Gorgon he didn't mess about. Fulgrim on the other hand could not even get being possessed right and spent the first part of the Heresy trapped in a picture sulking while the daemon ran around with his body doing lots (and lots) of drugs. Just sayin' ;)
He was chilling/planning his escape just like abaddon had everything planned out when he failed 12 times to destroy cadia :P poor chaos needs some love too ;)
Excellent selection! You’ve picked some great miniature choices! The 10th legion is definitely one of the cooler & more loyal Heresy forces. Great black library fluff too. You do an excellent job of building your models as well. Great stuff & thanks for sharing!
Best video yet. great to see them up ready for the paint shop. i'm doing the same build first paint later. i plan to paint one squad them write down the how and what paints i use so the whole force looks the same. so when you put them out even a standard paint job looks even better. time to get building again.
+Richard Dunlop Cheers, appreciate you liking the video. Writing the paint scheme down is sensible for consistency, I like to custom mix colours which can make that tricky for me. Still, the paint range these days is enormous so if I can stick to off the shelf mixes I will to make things easier. What force are you working on? Thanks for the comment :)
I'm working on ultramarines and yes they get a lot of stick but in 30k they are very good no longer a vanilla marines but a very flexible force. not no mention are primarch is actual rather good he bluffs the army and gets stronger in combat. they also get on very well with iron hands. iron hands would off been my second choice.
+Richard Dunlop I'm with you on the Ultramarines in 30K, the Forge World writers did a great job of stripping away the 'Ward Effect' and presented the legion and it's Primarch in a balanced way, warts and all. Their list is also very good with some of the best unique troop options (Fulmentaris Terminators anyone?) and Guilliman is a subtle but deadly choice.
Very awesome, been subbed for around 2 months so it's cool seeing everything together after seeing the force previewed/teased one by one. Really excited to see the painting progress, it takes me a week to knock out a 5 man unit so I don't envy that aspect of your collection hahaha.
+Austin Essex Haha, sorry about that but I wanted to get everything built before doing the parade - off course I then promptly saw half a dozen little bits to finish off! The painting is a big piece to be sure, I'll save time on the vehicles by airbrushing them and perhaps I might get a helping hand with the infantry ;) Thanks for watching :)
I've watched this video loads of times, love to see these resin models on display. How's the Army looking now?? Have you managed to paint them all yet??
that is so sexy, im doining the same now.i starting with mechanicum and want to make fluff alies from 4 chapters. and I do the same way, build all first so everything is clear and read to go:) love the details you have put into this army , and hope you get a fun timepainting them😊 keep rocking boyo😎
+Jan Gunnar Hey, glad you like them! Loving your theme for the Mechanicum allies, tht could make a neat Shattered Legion force as well. Thanks for watching :)
+Brooks Sligh Thank you Sir! I originally only had the bare minimum 20 Tactical Marines (I used to joke that my most common infantry weapons were Volkites) but built them up for better flexibility and being able to field less armour-heavy forces. Thanks for watching :)
A formidable selection. Love the look of your Glave - it really is a menacing presence. Did you find there was a lot of flash to contend with on the bionic limbs? I have to say your Landraider Achilles is another standout element for me. Congratulations Sir! Job well done.
+Rob McCord Thank you Sir for your kind comments! Nothing quite says 'prepare for your Terminators to evaporate' like the Glaive and the Achilles Alpha is arguably the toughest non-superheavy tank in the entire game. It also fits really well with the Iron Hands given their fondness for vehicles and sophisticated technology. In terms of the bionic limbs I don't recall having an excessive amount of flash to deal with on the MKIIIs although some of the wrists are quite thin and therefore fragile. The finecast bionics were harder to prepare but that's because I find the material to be overly soft and tricky to file and sand. Thanks for watching :)
Very impressive army LC, i'm toying with either a straight 40k or going heresy. I've not yet decided. I quite like the old style of heresy kit and armour. I need to look into each a bit more before i decide. I don't envy you the painting of that lot tho :)
+Nat Wainwright Thanks mate! It is a big job but I've built it so the mountain half climbed. That's an interesting decision to make, are you collecting or gaming as well? The 30K lists are supposed to be compatible with 40K but some opponents might look at it differently. There are some 30K army builds that port straight over to 40K Marine lists like Pride of The Legion where Veterans can be troop choices. For me the choice would be 30K, but I guess that's obvious! Thanks for watching :)
I've actually gone and bought the Dark Vengeance box after writing that yesterday :). I had a look at the 30k boxes, and while you get a lot, i couldn't justify the price for it. I'll get hold of some Mk3 marines separately which may well cost more in the long run, but them's the breaks. I've been told there's not a lot of difference in the rules either between 40 and 30k? Now to sell the chaos marines i got in the DV box and buy some more space marines :)
+Nat Wainwright That's a very economical way of getting an army started - don't forget the Calth and Prospero games, Wayland Games sell them 20% off GW retail (about £74 a pop). I was toying with the idea of getting 2-3 Prospero games for the Sisters and Custodians and selling the rest. Then add the Coronus which went on pre-order today rather than getting ripped of £105 for 15 Custodians only in £300 army 'deal' FW put up today.
I know, year later it might seem like Necroposting, but Mk.6 on Iron Hands is just not very fluffy. Mk.6 was given solely to Raven Guard for field tasting, with Alpha Legion stealing plans and providing it for their own troopers before Heresy began (read Invasion of Paramar, HH book 3).
I like 'necroposts' as you put it 😊I've read the entirety of book three (well, all 7 books) and that is part of what makes me include a small quantity of MKVI in this force. Aside form the Rogue Trader homage this squad represents (see my video review on them) there are several fluffy reasons these Iron Hands have some of this armour: 1. The Alpha Legion had units scattered about all over the place doing all sorts of subversive activities. Who is to say a small detachment, or their supply train, wasn't captured by other Legion forces who then put their wargear to their own use? The Iron Hands are renowned for their technical skill so could quite plausibly bring such gear into service. 2) As the heresy progressed the entire legion supply situation became very messy and confused. MKVI was being manufactured by the loyalists and it isn't inconceivable some of this was sent out to frontline units. As my force is going to be modelled around Autek Mor's Red Talons this is quite plausible also. Note the Garro Oath of Moment audio plays which describe loyalists being equipped with be Corvus suits. 3) The shattered legions. After Istvaan V bits of the Iron Hands, Raven Guard and Salamanders where scattered far and wide. Who is to say that a Raven Guard logistics vessel didn't join Mor's large fleet when they realised they were cut off and without Astartes to support anymore, adding their materiel to the IH arsenal? The great thing about the heresy is it deliberately ambiguous to allow people to model all sorts of weird and wonderful units in their legions. This is well articulated in the first two books in particular that encourage players to use whatever models they can to build their legions. Hope that gives you some good ideas!
Oh, thanks for answering. Honestly, my fault only - I should have realized, army is set in time after intitial year of Heresy (duh, since Mor's name is mentioned).
wow! Simply WOW! Absolutely love it, mate. Great video. Mostly loving the inclusion of the Sicaran Battle Tank and Leviathan. Ever thought of a Spartan Assault Tank also? ;) I was so happy when the Iron Father was released, as it helped me build a Vaylund Cal conversion, all painted under Iron Hands colours. The Medusan Immortals also gave me a chance to build a Sternguard unit to bodyguard Cal. The Iron Hands MKIII Legion squad and Medusan models are incredible. Well done for changing the MKIII Iron Hands banner too. That must've taken some patience to achieve. I have to say that the Corvus armour is a very interesting choice. And BRAVO for kitting out your MKVI squads with bolt pistols, pouches and grenades. I've done the same with the Raptors army that I'm currently building. I feel it adds much more depth to the models, even the squad. A well-built army. How will you base them? I even used an unusual spot colour for my army, which was a neon-like yellow for lights, eye lenses, plasma coils. For me, it worked, as it felt unique and different.
+Dreamzkape Greetings fellow son of Medusa and thank you for the kind words about this force of iron and steel! Absolutely spot on about those Iron Hands specific units, in my opinion I think we have the best of all the FW heresy era units, well perhaps equalled by the Word Bearers. I have a video in my how-to list where I talk about the vexilia conversions in detail if you are interested. I added the MKVI for two reasons; firstly for nostalgia value (I first played 40K back in '88) and secondly to represent a force that was fighting after the Heresy broke out and post-Isstvan V so had started to get some new gear through (MKVI) but were also having to cut corners because of supply issues (MKV). Glad you like the equipment pouches and pistols, I wanted to make my tactical marines feel special as they are such an important part of the force from an objective capture point of view. Given their Fury of The Legion ability I also wanted to give an impression of them carrying stacks of spare ammunition. I'll got an interesting paint scheme to do using a few different metallics on a black base with blue as their visor colour. For bases I will go with a pale colour, possibly urban rubble or tundra permafrost... I've not decided that yet. Thanks for watching :)
I'll certainly have a look at that video, thank you! :D Absolutely agree with the additional pouches and holstered bolt-pistols. For me, it's just adds character. It was difficult, mind you, when you consider the poses too, making sure the grenades and pouches themselves don't look to static and look as if they're moving or whatever when the model itself it moving. Narrative forging. :) I do love that you're kind of telling a story with your infantry here. I always think it's a great thing and makes for the game and hobby to be much more interesting. I very much look forward to seeing them painted up and based. :) I did a snow setting, but then I'd been playing a lot of Dead Space 3. I ended up with an army nomination at a Warhammer World event (first and only nomination), which was nice, even though I wasn't completely pleased with my vehicles. Whilst they looked great with the white weaponry (which I took from the then-newest 6th Space Marine codex) and other colours, I hadn't highlighted the black that well on the Sicaran Battle Tank and Spartan Assault Tank (which wasn't a great kit itself), but they were impressed with a majority of the army to give it a chance. Ref told me that they're sometimes unfair to black painted armies as sometimes they haven't been highlighted or over-highlighted and/or the bases don't make them stand out. I would change a lot if I could repaint and rebuild that army now, but it was a lot of hard work in a short space of time, so I guess it was also rushed. THAT and my brother (with his army already ready) teasing me to jump on Titanfall. lmao! :)
+Dreamzkape Here is a bit more on the story my infantry tell. The rarest and oldest support weapons are carried by marines wearing the legion's favoured MKIII suits. The rarest of all (Volkite Culverins and Gravition Guns) are carried by long serving veterans of the Great Crusade who show significant cybernetic modification. The MKIV armoured Legionaries, a pattern perhaps less utilised by The Tenth, are carrying a weapon that is also less typically deployed; the Rotor Cannon. Here is how I did the equipment pouch positioning. I simply didn't consider it at all when building and posing the marines (the most important part) and added it all afterwards and fit them around the poses. I cut up pouches to get them to fit into tight spaces. You asked about the Spartan in your original post. I never bought one for my force because in 30K Iron Hands have to pass a morale check to charge. Staking 700+ points on a unit with troops that could fail due to a single botched dice roll never made sense to me so I stayed away. Plus I also felt the Spartan assault became a bit of a cliche and very overused tactic which didn't appeal to me either. Instead I built capability into my force to counter those Spartan assaults (lots of Graviton Guns and outflanking armour). Those events at Warhammer World are fun to prepare armies for.... you just have to watch out for members of GW's studio painting team coming along for the day as punters and hoovering up the painting prizes (I have seen this happen). Well done with your army nomination, it take lots of work and ability to achieve!
I build a Imperial Fist army with 2 set of burning of prospero which gave me, 10 terminators divided into 2 squads, 2 20 man tatical squads, heavy weapons squad with autocannons, heavy weapons squad with heavy bolters and then i got two Deredeo Dreanought one with lascannon battery and one with the autocannon Battery :) and then for hq i got the first horus heresy model they sold in gw stores plus the Primus Mediace they sold a few weeks ago ^^.
+Cadars Cool, you have a solid core there and alot of flexibility by being able to build your army in different squad sizes. I find Apothacaries are very useful to support tactical squads by giving them feel no pain. I bet those two Deredeos look boss :)
Wow what an army, think Iron Hands might be my favourite legion (but that seems to change with every novel I read in the HH series!) When do we get to see an update on the collection?
That's a very impressive collection but you've got quite a painting job ahead of you. I'm working on my first 2000 points of World Eaters but I haven't really done much recently as I'm pretty angry at FW at this point and it really puts me off. Come Monday it'll have been a full month since I ordered. I don't know if you recall I needed a good 60% of my total parts replaced and I've yet to start working on my new kits as I still don't have my replacements.
Egalogalis Thanks mate, and yes I do indeed :P Yes, I do remember you saying about your order, seems like a long delay on the parts, have you chased them up? I would as you might be getting queue bumped as they are getting stock ready for the Weekender and Inferno release - not that that is an excuse. What's in your World Eater force? Thanks for watching :)
leakycheese yeah I chased them up at the begining of the week I got a response saying the customer service rep had the order redirected to his desk so he could double check the parts and that they were posting it out on Tuesday just past so hopefully I'll get them today or tomorrow. As for my World Eaters sitting at 30 tac marines, a Leviathan, 2 contemptors, 5 man cataphractii command squad, a cataphractii praetor, a cataphractii primus medicae, an apothecary and a flamestorm predator. Once I get my parts I'll have a fireraptor, a javelin speeder and a further 2 apothecaries. I think I'll grab a second betrayal at calth once I've finish those to round out my contemptor talon and get some more power armoured bodies. I also found a set of tartaros terminators I bought a few years back but never built so I'll probably include those.
+Egalogalis Sounds fair, I've had the same response before and to be honest the FW phone people probably have the best perspective on quality as they must deal with requests for replacement parts on a daily basis. Your force sounds good, World Eaters need plenty of bodies to close to melee an get those devastating close combat bonuses in. How have you armed your Contemptors?
Now then Mr Cheese. Have you had a chance to try adapting the new Apocalypse rules to HH units? I think the idea has real legs, I've only played one team game of Apoc so far but it was a real blast. My Iron Warriors work just as well in 40k as they do in 30k, so for me it was easy. I would like to build and field my Iron Circle robots soon though.
The Turbanator Maybe at some point, my first choice would be a Fire Raptor Gunship, although I'm not that keen as I've heard some bad things about the kit. Thanks for watching!
+PraetorGix Haha, I know what you mean. I will be painting these guys over time so will hopefully reach the amazingness you desire. Thanks for watching :)
PraetorGix Is that a pitch for some work? ;) Just pulling your leg, I've done some commissions a long time ago, I seem to find it hard to get the time to paint so far with HH, I've been very focused on army building and gaming so far.
leakycheese LOL nah mate we're not even in the same continent so you're better off with a local painter XD Strange as it may sound I actually prefer people to paint their minis themselves, they are a personal expression and everything from which army you collect to how you pose them to the colour scheme should speak about you and you alone. So I say take all the time you need, in the end they'll look awesome and be more special that way.
Will you make a video explaining why you chose the iron hands? And why dont you get terminators? I'm almost certain that iron hands terminators can be upgraded to be given cyber familiars to give them 3+ invulnerable save..
Henry the 9th Yes, that would be a good idea for a video, although I have answered the question in one of the earlier giveaway Q&A videos (1K subs?) I guess it could be done from a force evolution perspective to add something new. As well as the Gorgon Terminators in this video I have five of the original Exo Armour models (aka Saturnine Terminators, the models I featured in my Retrohammer video) from 1988 to convert and add to this force. I will probably play them as Cataphractii for maximum toughness. Although it would be nice to give them all Cyber Familiars this option is only available to Iron Hands characters so would be sergeant equivalents only. Thanks for watching :)
+Henry the 9th I've toyed with getting a Vindicator Laser Destroyer but then changed my mind and bought the Coronus.... and then the Achillus plus bits when that refunded. Maybe with the new flexi-lists I might look again, my heavy support slot is currently very full. Thanks for watching :)
Hey, I'm just commenting to ask: why do you call Apothecaries 'Apothecarions'? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Apothecarion the name of the department, not the person or job? The Latin/High Gothic version of the word Apothecary would be Apothecarius, plural Apothecarii, and 'Apothecarion' isn't really a Latin word, it was made up by GW/FW. So is there a reason you refer to them this way? It sounds odd, as though you would call three individual members of the marketing department 'those three marketings'. Love your stuff, though, so please don't think I mean any disrespect, I'm genuinely curious whether I missed something.
chimp205 Ah my friend, not all of the Iron Hands chose to remain loyal to the Emperor during the Heresy. Some saw the death of Ferrus Manus at the hands of Horus's forces as a sign that he had failed through choice of allegiance and that the Warmaster was right through his might and joined his cause. I have played these guys as traitors on occasion, clearly without the leadership of Autek Mor. Thanks for watching :)
where is your ferrus? oh that's right he's dead sorry :P fulgrim!! :P great army though ;)
+Philip Vonleipzig Better a dead hero of the Imperium than a multi-armed-snake-daemon-thing with a taste for things best left unsaid I say ;)
In answer to your question I sold him, he is now in retirement somewhere in sunny California.

Hahaha
I don't know about that but I get why an iron hands player would say that ;)
Philip Vonleipzig Yeah, I'm biased but you have to give it to The Gorgon he didn't mess about.
Well done with your army nomination, it take lots of work and ability to achieve!
awesome.
Really nice army you got there :D, i myself are only up to about 2000 points :)
+Cadars Thanks my friend :) Two thousand points is a good solid core, what have you got?
Egalogalis Thanks mate, and yes I do indeed :P
Yes, I do remember you saying about your order, seems like a long delay on the parts, have you chased them up?
How have you armed your Contemptors?
leakycheese Chainfist and Kheres one has a graviton gun and the other has a plasma blaster
+Egalogalis Good choices, I see we think in similar ways on Contemptor armaments ;)
You need some thunder hawk gunships or something for air
The Turbanator Maybe at some point, my first choice would be a Fire Raptor Gunship, although I'm not that keen as I've heard some bad things about the kit. Thanks for watching!
you don't see much mark 5 armour around
Agreed, it's the least manufactured variant of space marine armour across the entirety of the Forge World and Games Workshop ranges.
Quite less impact from such unpainted-ness. With proper coloring this would be amazing! Oh well...
+PraetorGix Haha, I know what you mean. I will be painting these guys over time so will hopefully reach the amazingness you desire. Thanks for watching :)
I do commission mini painting so I can't help it lol. Looking forward for a cool showcase when they're finished !
PraetorGix Is that a pitch for some work? ;) Just pulling your leg, I've done some commissions a long time ago, I seem to find it hard to get the time to paint so far with HH, I've been very focused on army building and gaming so far.
leakycheese LOL nah mate we're not even in the same continent so you're better off with a local painter XD
Strange as it may sound I actually prefer people to paint their minis themselves, they are a personal expression and everything from which army you collect to how you pose them to the colour scheme should speak about you and you alone.
Thanks for watching :)
grate army please paint
Looooove
Perfectly said!
leakycheese I try
Why dont you get vindicators for this army?
+Henry the 9th I've toyed with getting a Vindicator Laser Destroyer but then changed my mind and bought the Coronus.... and then the Achillus plus bits when that refunded.
Maybe with the new flexi-lists I might look again, my heavy support slot is currently very full.
Thanks for watching :)
It’s too bad the apothecary set from FW are only 2 set
No, that's quite fine 😂
Duncan is disappointed
Alas i have to say, i would like this video if i were not a traitor to the core! For i am a son of angron !
chimp205 Ah my friend, not all of the Iron Hands chose to remain loyal to the Emperor during the Heresy. Some saw the death of Ferrus Manus at the hands of Horus's forces as a sign that he had failed through choice of allegiance and that the Warmaster was right through his might and joined his cause. I have played these guys as traitors on occasion, clearly without the leadership of Autek Mor. Thanks for watching :)
hmm nice army of unpainted
I know, I feel your envy.
