I watched this video last night and it was pretty windy today. I went with the lipless crankbait and caught my personal best largemouth at 4 lb 2oz. Thanks for the advice Matt and you have one of the best channels on TH-cam.

That’s crazy lol. I’ve caught a 4lbs 2oz bass as well a month ago😂 but nice catch tho, I used a frog in a hot afternoon on open water and got smashed lol

Matt. This is wierd to say: you created this video one year ago. Today, October 24, 2022 it is cloudy and windy (20 to 30 mph winds) in Illinois. I did a search on youtube for”fishing on windy day” and got you and Roland Martin. Its like you made this video like “Back To The Future” for bass fishing. 😮

Great info... my go to is usually a Texas rigged bait or wacky rig, so on windy days I tend to just stay home lol. I been trying to gain confidence in all these baits this year for this exact reason. U confirmed my theory on using moving baits (such as these) on windy days. 😃😃💪

I would have guessed three of your choice baits for wind. I love fishing spinnerbaits, chatterbaits or rattlebaits in wind. The wind puts fish where you know they will be and you can, in turn, put one of these lures there. I’ve used a jig in wind, but I think there are diminishing returns if too windy because it’s hard the keep the wind from influencing your presentation and feel. I have used a short Carolina Rig in wind before. I kept the leader short to improve what feel I had. The heavier weight kept the rig down where I wanted it.

I had a perfect setup a few weeks ago. The wind was blowing hard into a small pocket/dip in the bank line that is a flat that drops into a deep water. Between a rotation of 2 different spinnerbaits, a smaller profile crankbait and jerkbait I was able to catch over 50 in that one spot. Once I got the angle they wanted the baits presented in, unfortunately casting into the wind at angle, I spot locked and mopped up. I tried a few several different lures before the jerkbait but no luck. Flash was a must on the jerkbaits. They didn't want any true bottom contact stuff. I think because of shad being pushed into it the area, well not sure if it's necessarily shad being pushed in, them following their food source that is being pushed in or a combination thereof, but they wanted nothing that wasn't a shad pattern. Weight transfer systems in lighter hard baits are a huge difference maker when casting into the wind.

So...... what bait do you think has evolved the best over the last 25 years. One vote here for a today's jerkbait. Fly into the wind better than they ever did. Thanks for the vid.

🤔 never tried a lipless in windy conditions, I usually always reach for the spinnerbait box, followed by a jerkbait, I will try it next time.

How does (if at all) what season it is effect this?
Generally season does affect this unless the wind is pushing significantly cooler water into an area
I have always heard buzzbaits work amazing when there’s chop on the water caused by wind, and they should be fished the same way as spinnerbaits in those conditions
They work well as long as its not to choppy
Matt you need to record your videos with a little higher audio level. We can turn them down if we need to but all the way up and still can barely hear it is a problem. Only complaint I have.
