    I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for six MLF Championships and won roughly a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

    The “how to” technique videos are incredible. I’m new to fishing, and I spend most of my time on the bank/pier simply wondering if I’m doing it all wrong. Thanks for the confidence boost… the time on the water is much better when we aren’t doubting ourselves!

      Try to get a kayak or small aluminum boat and trolling motor. You need to be able to move around the lake.

    I enjoy and consume your detailed explanation of what and why on Rods, reels, lures, water and line. It educates me how to target my spending as well as targeting bass.
    I’d like to learn techniques for different types of crank baits, large and small swim baits, glide baits, creature baits and worms.

    I was at a pond with carpeted milfoil about 6 feet on the ground and thick, a slow retrieve ticking the tops of that grass was deadly. I could see the bass just sitting on top of that grass so cool when you know what to look for and what bait gets them to bite in those situations. Top water/chatterbait/lipless/fluke or senko all work in those situations. Kinda want to try a hard jerk bait and put that bait right in front of them sure they don’t see that much with the thought of most people think they would lose it.

    Good video! I fish a vibrating jig quite often. I think of it as sort of a cross between a spinnerbait and a square bill. You’ve given me some food for thought on ways to find more productive retrieves.
    Thanks for your videos, I look forward to them every morning. I think back to when I first started fishing you only got bass fishing information on Saturday morning on the old Nashville Network. 👍👍

      We got it on Saturdays when Bill Dance and/or Roland Martin came on NBC or CBS. Good ole broadcast television. But those shows were mostly commercials for whoever sponsored that episode- no really good information was given. Back then everyone was still able to hide and thus lie about whatever they really used. You just had to learn to watch and read between the lines. I fell for my share of the gimmicks though- had me a helicopter lure, the flying lure, the dancing eel, and of course- the champion of all champions- the banjo minnow. And we all had that scent stuff they used to spray on their soft plastics but- I can't remember what it was called- good times.

    Very much enjoy & appreciate the how to vids. Have a whole box of inherited & 'collected/salvaged from branches' tackle that I don't know how to use correctly to get more than the occasional sheer luck bite. Always enjoy time on the water, but (of course) enjoy it more when getting bit.

    My favorite retrieve is one I found by happy accident. Happened to be throwing it with an 8.1:1 reel and with that high speed if you give the reel handle quick half turns with just a split second pause between them, you get a super hunting action out of the bait. You get the up, left, and right hunting action with the quick turns of the reel, and the split second pause gets you that drop action

    I’m definitely going to try this to mix it up! I do the same technique in the grass, but I make the same sweeping motion I would on the hookset instead of a pop. That way IF a fish bites while the grass is loading up the rod, they get the hook set on them. The vertical pop is a little more violent which adds one more variation to my toolbox. Great video!

      The micro is great with just a little swim bait and no skirt. When you pop the reel handle it shoots off to one side then to the other side the next time. It truly looks like a small panicking bait fish the bass come unglued for it.

    .Thanks Matt. Great video. What about retrieves for crank baits when you can't hit or don't want to hit bottom rocks etc. Are there certain scenarios when you try getting close, but not hitting? I've heard stories that smallmouth want the bait off bottom, then heard opposite. Is there a system to this? Thanks

  • @jersey4755
    @jersey4755 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video Matt. I have a question... Are you naturally right or left handed? I ask because watching the video, I noticed your reel is a left-handed retrieve. I also noticed that unlike a lot of other anglers, you are not switching hands after your cast. So I assume like myself, you are right-handed, but choose to use a left-hand retrieve reel. I do this to eliminate what I feel is the "unnecessary" step of switching hands. As well as to stay consistent with the retrieve of all my spinning rod/reel setups. I have only recently started using casting rods and bait casters, and the "regular" right hand retrieve felt very awkward.
