Under Virgin, you used to be able to get an advanced first class ticket between Glasgow and London for as little as £55 on quieter trips. Lowest I can ever find now now is twice that. They've also converted some first class coaches to standard premium which is basically a first class seat without any of the complimentary food and drink - costs £20-30 more than standard so not really great value for what is in effect only a slightly bigger seat. I think they've also stopped doing the cheapish weekend upgrades to first class.

Yeah, there is little chance I would pay full price for Avanti's first class product, considering the price and the difference in service it seems to have from various reviews. Funny that the standard premium now is what it often cost for first back in the day with Virgin.

After Preston it certainly wasn’t normal service. No hot meal? And the sink full? Poor overall. I travelled the opposite run last November when I was over. Lovely breakfast and lots of hot tea. Avanti still not up to scratch. Ok, can you tell the departure time or did I miss it? Nice vid. Subbed.

You want to try EMR if you think Avanti's not up to scratch. They have "enhanced" the 1st class service that the previous operators provided. You get a sandwich and snacks during the day, they seem to run out of the vegetarian option quickly, so no sandwich if you don't eat meat or that particular meat (in the case of ham sandwiches). No hot food. No alcohol. Breakfast if you can call it that is a bread roll with a sausage and a half, plus breakfast snacks- yoghurt and packet croissant. oh and they've got rid of all the crockery but I suppose they don't need it anymore with the enhancements.

The departure time was 18:30 from London. Annoyingly had I known about the limited service I could have took the 17:30 departure from London. On my way down to London I had breakfast and it was excellent, with staff constantly offering more tea/coffee and snacks. I have heard such variation in the service offered too.

Was all that stuff you got in the lounge free because I heard for some stuff you have to pay but that might just be alcohol

Most stuff in the lounge is free, apart from the alcohol behind the bar. Scones, wraps, snacks and soft drinks were all included.

So prefer the old style seats in standard and first class compared to the new iron board seats

I find them a slight improvement over LNER's seats however.

I had poor service out of Liverpool to London. No meal service, no tea. So poor.

Hit and miss in my opinion, sometimes I’ve had really good service and other times it’s been poor. I don’t think there’s any excuse though considering how much tickets retail for.
