Well, swedes are a little sneaky, we spend the 80’s scanning the music from USA and Great Britain and then in the 90’s we took it all and made it better and dominated the world! (Evil laughter!) I was a deejay in the 80’s so the music people listened to was mostly music from the dance floor, it was before the internet so we as deejays went to London and bought all good records we could find and that is one explanation why we had a lot of British good music. And in the 80’s you could as a deejay play everything from rock to disco and people danced
In Sweden, we have been listening to pop and rock from both the USA and Great Britain since the 1950s. Early on, we had many good rock bands in the 60s who sang in English. They were the ones who laid the foundation for the great The pop wonder now

I didn't count, but around half of them, perhaps 60%, were Swedish, and we have always been interested in music from other places so I don't think that's bad. Also, this was a list of music that was popular with the general public. Most of them were disliked or even hated by me and my friends

Loved this video, I'm also from the UK in Kent. However how have you never heard of enough is enough by Donna Summer/Barbara Streisand???????????? How do you not know who Johnny Logan is-still been on TV/radio, social Media gets mentioned etc + why wouldn't Our House-Madness be really big in Sweden because its very British lol How the hell have you never heard the Bond theme tune-A View to a Kill by Duran Duran-you been living under a rock!!!!! As for Rick Astley- how did you not know he had other hits in the UK lol
Curiously, it was not popular in Sweden, it didn't even reach the top 20. But hey, that happened in Sweden with many classics, even by huge stars. For example, Michael Jackson's "Beat It" barely made it to #19.
You knew artists and songs from other countries ? Why a suprise that Swedes knew them aswell? Britain isnt the center of the world .And you surrely know that Europe is a Swedish band ? The final countdown ….
Exactly what I was thinking, and some of the songs he said he didn't know are classics and still play on UK radio/on TV programmes like TOTP 2 + music video channels on Freeview etc Also many other Swedish acts also had top 20 hits-but he was just playing number ones. I'm from UK in England BTW
Gyllene tider band member Per Gessle (singer) is one half of Roxette and he wrote "Listen to you heart"
He probably thinks Roxette were american. He tends to belive lots of things from Sweden are american.

Magnus Uggla is very famous in Sweden, like an icon against the system in different ways in the 1970-80th.
The system? Sounds too political. Not Uggla.
@@erikhassler9459 not the political, more about the social systems and the issues in the usual life.
@@niklasherneryd4754 But you wrote the system, and that is more like the political system.

A lot of the Swedish artists were singing in english, like Secret service, Europe, Lillie & Suzi, Jerry Williams etc.

I'm sure there will be more Swedish artists (singing in Swedish) if you check the number 1 songs in the 60's and 70's 🤔
If you’re the rocker, I am the roller. Go Magnus.
A lot of songs stay at the nr 1 position for many, many weeks..
I'm surprised that Dexy's Midnight Runners" and "Come on Eileen" wasn't on the list . . .

wrong year on John Fernham, the song was released in 1986
Swedish artists had about 30% of the market, but not many number ones, apperently.
