    I can't help but feel that part of the reason why our Rick makes such a big deal about being the "Rickest Rick" is that he has a bit of an inferiority complex over the fact that this other guy has been consistently outsmarting him for decades. Given that our Rick outsmarted an entire civilisation of Ricks multiple times that's terrifying.

      holy shit, remember in season one when Rick said "it makes sense that the Rickest Rick would have the Mortiest Morty", he didn't mean that he had the Mortiest Morty (well he did but it wasn't the primary meaning), he meant that the best version of Morty was the one descended from the one version of him who he considers to be better than him

    The fact that Morty is the actual grandson of the man who killed Rick's wife adds soo much context to why Toxic Rick cares about Morty. Rick considers his attachment to Morty as toxic because his main goal was always about killing this Rick

    • @AzA609
      @AzA609 2 ปีที่แล้ว +386

      Jerry has always been cool because Jerry is the same as the old Rick who rejected the portal gun technology. Rick initially rejected it because he was content and happy with the chill life that he shared with his wife and daughter, until he watched them get blown up and die. Rick was once happy with the simple things and so is Jerry. Rick hates how Jerry loves his "boring ordinary life". Jerry being happy with the small things pisses Rick off because Jerry is Rick's old self from a time when Rick was naive husband and father. Rick misses that time. This is also why the Rick that killed our Rick's family is more dangerous. Our Rick still cares for his current family because deep down he is still that same simple Rick who values family as enough for him. The bad Rick abandoned his family and Universe the moment he gained portal gun technology, in other words, this Rick has ZERO weakness.

      C-137 Beth, Jerry and Summer were made out to be so feral and unreasonable by the show itself in the season three premiere, it felt a LITTLE hollow for Jerry to be chewing out Morty to be leaving them the second time. Honestly I don’t think Morty deserves blame for leaving his home dimension the first time. Rick did what he always does: Morty was traumatized and stunned senseless by everything that was going on around him, and then Rick grabbed the steering wheel his life.
      Morty definitely needs to be called out for commissioning a rape love potion, but the full-on apocalypse was Rick’s fault.

    This episode made me realise that the Smiths are technically an example of the found family trope. None of them are 'originals' to any others any more. Technically one of the Beths is summer's original mom but because of the clone it basically means neither are. The scene when Rick says he doesn't care about 'family' and they all call bullshit really feels like the trope too.

    I have to say I disagree on wanting to keep hermit Jerry around for more. At the end he served his purpose. Once Rick prime hinted that he was hunting HIS Morty, Jerry went in for the kill. He showed that despite everything he said earlier, he still very much cared about his son. If he really hated Morty he could have tried to kill him at any point just like he did with Rick. I think he served his final purpose well, to show that even at arguably the lowest point a Jerry could reach, he still loved his family as opposed to Rick prime who did not hesitate to kill him even if he was his original Jerry. The Jerry he acknowledged was probably the coolest Jerry around.

    I honestly like what Rick did with Morty, blending up the food for him so he could eat it. He's actually right, you CAN go into shock because of Refeeding syndrome. I really like how they brought this up, and had Rick eat the sandwich because he's clearly suicidal and self destructive. Though Morty didn't get to enjoy the sandwich, what Rick did for him was actually really thoughtful and the right move to make. Sure, boasting about how good it tasted may have been a bit insensitive, but it's not like he was doing it to purely spite Morty.

      the only question being why didnt rick just go back to his original timeline after making time travel?

  • @Tornahdo707
    @Tornahdo707 2 ปีที่แล้ว +276

    Small error in the video. "jacket" rick didn't kill C137's family because he would not join the citadel. He killed c137's family because c137 would not join HIM. This is supported by the fact that (as per season 5 finale) at the time of the death of c137's family the citadel did not exist and, most importantly, that c137 is the architect of the citadel. So unless time travel is involved (no direct evidence of it) "jacket" rick could not have been associated with the citadel in any way.

    • @WakenerOne
      @WakenerOne 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      It wasn't the Citadel, but it wasn't just HIM. It was a growing group of Ricks, as is indicated by him saying that Ricks don't turn this offer down, leading C-137 to conclude that he himself was a different kind of Rick. How would "Jacket" Rick (I wanna call him "Grendel Rick" due to him having the white streak at one temple, same as all of the avatars of Grendel in the comic by Matt Wagner) know that the offer never gets refused unless other Ricks had accepted it? Hence, an alliance of Ricks, existing before C-137 joined the fight against the Federation.
      I also use this rationale to reject the idea that Jacket Rick is the Rickest Rick. The point of being a rick is to be *A* Rick, C-137 once said. He maintained that not joining an alliance was what made him more Rick than anyone on the Citadel. That would also go for any Pre-Citadel alliances, and as has just been demonstrated, Jacket was part of just such an alliance.

      @@WakenerOne I wish maybe a couple words would have been used to name the two "factions" of Ricks there were before the Citadel. Like one for the organization of Ricks which Rick Prime(I'll just go with that) wanted 137 to join but wound up getting destroyed by 137, forcing Rick Prime into hiding, or the other organization that seemed to collect on the idea that 137 was a threat to all Ricks and then got converted into the Citadel.

    it's super crazy to think about how the Ricklantis mix up affects where the story is heading currently, we saw with simple Rick that they would destroy the lives of peaceful Ricks for cookies. It's crazy to think that our Rick should have been (a?) simple Rick himself, If not for... himself. It brings an incredible scope to Rick's self hatred, he knows himself, All of himself, every one of himself, and they are monsters. He is one of them, but he never wanted this, he hates himself, all of them.

    • @maniaxlives1126

      It's a warped viewed perception by the Rick's of a sort of social predator-prey deal with the smart preying and/or surviving with or without the weak. A 'simple minded' individual to them serves nothing more than shielding (Mortys) or literally food (Simple Rick). After last season and the current episode, this really gives scope to our Rick especially in his views of 'his' family? As we saw with the toxin episode, Rick views his feelings towards his family as toxic and this is likely because Rick despite loving them? Knows it's messed up and he shouldn't because they aren't his family, his Beth never lived to have her own. This is added on as originally he went to this family in hopes that his counterpart would show up and he could finally get some much desired revenge.

      What I think is Rick Prime is actually the Rickist Rick because his same universe has the Mortiest Morty.
      Our Rick is actually the Mortiest Rick, the Rick who was just content with living a simple life with his family. The extremely emotional and compassionate Rick.
      I thought Dufus Rick was the Mortiest Rick, but I think he's just one .01% possibility Rick. But now with this new information I think he was put in to throw us off.
      Besides being the Mortiest Rick doesn't necessarily mean he has to be a moron by Rick standards.
      The Mortiest Rick = The Rickist Morty (opposite perhaps? Maybe connected on his search for family's killer rick)
      The Rickist Rick = The Mortiest Morty (same universe)
      Our Rick for sure raised the Rickist Morty, but his universe's Beth died with his wife.

    I remember reading an interview the writers after the ending of Season 5 and why they were so hesitant to finish out the Evil Morty story. Because doing so would actually require a real shift in the status quo where they need to deal with the fallout. It does show in the last few seasons where it felt like the writers were dragging their feet, wanting to do just fun stories as much as possible without actually wanting to get to this point. Think getting the 70 episode order was ultimately a bad thing that hurt the show because it gave the writers an excuse to create as much padding as they could.

    • @RavenHaili
      @RavenHaili ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think on his search for their killer he coincidentally came back into the lives of the younger Smith family because he couldn't stay away and it just so happened to have the Rickist Morty.

Main Rick just chooses to handicap himself and be reckless most of the time, because he's suicidal. That's just how he's been since the first episode where he drunkenly nearly wipes out the planet on a whim before passing out inches away from the bomb that he just armed.
      There is, however, someone unquestionably above him now in play. Rick Prime seems to be a more experienced Rick that also has no morals and absolutely no reason to hold back. The Rickest Rick.

    I do find it interesting that Hermit Jerry tried to kill Jacket-Rick *after* Rick mentioned both Rick and Morty. It makes me wonder if Jerry, despite his big talk to Morty, *still cared* enough to take out this threat this RICK before the last remnant of his family became threatened once more.

    I love cronenberg Jerry, and how they killed him. That's how you make a memorable character. If they kept him around he would have never been as awesome or impactful as he was in this episode, and killing him off literally mid sentence when it seems like they could have kept him around just cements jacket rick as truly evil. They could have easily made cronenberg Jerry into a discount space Beth, but they made the hard choice and did us all a favor by making his appearance short and extremely memorable.

    The thing that almost nobody understands is that our Rick never wanted any of this crazy sci-fi life. The moment he was offered that life he immediately rejected it. Our Rick wanted to spend time with his family. And if you take the time to examine each and every one of his moves so far in the show, they all have the same goal: to return to a situation where he is having a sci-fi good time with his grandchildren. That's all he ever wanted. This show is the definition of meta storytelling and Rick is the platform that it operates on. Rick changes realities, destroys world governments and even deals with the show's big villains in a way that always secures his ability to have a good time with his grandchildren.
    Morty's original Rick is the exact same person, only he is a complete egotistic, pushing the show towards cannon material stories with big consequences. Our Rick is the sitcom one that wants every story to be its own episode. Awesome stuff. Cudos to the writers.

    That is the whole in the story line. Prime Rick (you call him Jacket Rick) killed C-137's family, but why? There was no Citadel yet - C-137 designed and built the Citadel after his war with the other Ricks, when he and the other Ricks declared a truce (they just surrendered to him). I'll admit there did seem to be a 'club', but this prime Ricj didn't seem to be a part of it. So what was his initial plan? to keep the other Ricks busy with his portal tech (which didn't need the citadel) and their club while he continued to develop...? Why now does portal tech not work - is it C-137's building of the finite curve that separated the Rick realities from all the other realities? Well at least there are future episodes to explore this...

    He could form a third point on the spectrum of Rick-ism, in that he might be the... Jerry-ist Rick (as the one that keeps getting bullied by the others).

    I swear that even as you make these elaborate and justified stances and opinions, you are almost as jaded, superficial and insistent as Rick personality and speech wise and it can wane on the audience after a while. This episode really freshens up the show in a hopeful and new direction by eliminating some things and then tidying up some other points and character dynamics and lore to try and create a new arc for the crew as well as whatever miscellaneous adventures they will go on as well as giving us a potential ultimate villain behind the scenes of it all that will eventually make their moat elaborate move yet and affect EVERYTHING so that everything and everyone is under their direct influence and that they are the definitive being of ALL beings and that no one will ever hold a candle to their omnipotence. No more potals or quick fixes or bails, so now things have to properly be dealt with in a more decisive capacity and to see how this new dynamic changes things even more than what they have already been changed up as.
