The RETAIN Neonatal Resuscitation Game

Establishing breathing and oxygenation after birth is vital for survival and long-term health. Most newborn babies start breathing after birth without any help. However, 13-26 million babies worldwide need help at birth in the delivery room. Despite help in the delivery room ~1 million newborns die annually worldwide. Shockingly, half of these deaths can be attributed to healthcare provider’s lack of knowledge.
Neonatal resuscitation events are rare, high risk, and complicated. To practice their skills, healthcare providers can use simulation based education, this however is resource and time intensive and not available during the current pandemic. Therefore, we have developed the RETAIN Table-top simulator and the RETAIN digitial simulator as an alternative.
Studies have shown that RETAIN:
• 33% increase in performing the correct resuscitation algorithm
• 12% increase in knowledge and skills retention
• 92% knowledge retention after 2 months
• 70% knowledge retention after 5 months
• 95% reported enjoyment using the games for practice
