the late 90s/early 2000s were QUITE the time lol. Like, Destiny's Child was playing at malls at one point and that fact just blows my mind!

Thanks so much for doing this. PLAY should've been so much bigger and Faye was/is incredible vocalist she literally carried the group on her back vocally and was giving Christina Aguilera jr all over the Replay album my only nitpick is I wish they had gotten more original songs rather than secondhand covers but i digress.
Of course 💗 Thank you for watching! Totally agree with everything here. Not a fan of the covers either lol I've noticed a lot of girl groups outside of the US were a bit heavy on the covers. I've been meaning to deep dive on it

Faye ended leaving the group again and Anais and Sanne got another girl but it didn’t last very long due to fight’s between the girls.
I’m 32 now and this was my favorite group back in the day! I remember when I bought their documentary on DVD and I was sooooo excited and watched it a million times. I loved their music, fashion, voices, etc. back in 2000’s there was zero social media and I would talk to my friend on AOL instant message and we would talk about the album and our favorite songs 😭 I miss those days!

This was awesome! I'm so sad Faye ultimately seemed to grow so disenchanted (understandably) with the industry to the point that she'd leave it completely whilst still being so young. Her vocals were incredible and she really could've gone far. Also, Remember to Forget is AMAZING, should've been a single. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Don't Get Down Like That.

So Anna actually released a book in 2020, it’s only in Swedish right now but the title of it translated is “You are Replaceable” and it speaks to her time in Play. I get the feeling the Faye wasn’t the only one felt used/betrayed by the industry 💔
@@maggierolseth2375 yes even though I'm not swedish from the little bit I was able to gather it seemed that Faye and Anais were bullying Anna (when Anna already had a history of being bullied sadly prior to them), and upon the reunion when Faye returned, on their side of the published article of the story they said it was because anna lived in the usa that they didn't have her back, but Anna had said Faye called her and told her they didn't want her back. Then apparently Rosie thought that was wrong and said if they don't want her back I'm leaving too and that's exactly what happened. At least Rosie was a real friend or better friend to Anna it seems. Smh it's a real shame what happened. But that's all I could gather as there's no translation and I only speak English.
I unironically stan Play. I even emailed Spotify cuz they have two different profile pages on there currently: one with their first three albums, and another with their last two albums. And both of their profiles have singles on it that aren't even them. A mess. They deserve better!
This was well done! Play was such an underrated group. Especially the original Lineup. Hell,even their third lineup was very promising with Faye,Sanne and Anais.
I agree but I did enjoy the lineup Janet homegirl could sang just aswell as Faye she didn't have the strongest material but i'll save that for part two.
They had soooo much potential! It literally hurts me that they didn’t go as far as they could’ve!

When you realize you know everything from this documentary..looooved play sooo much..bought all their CDs at Target, bought their documentary DVD, burned their songs and made my own mix, talked to my friends on AIM about them..wow
I can say as a whole grown man, that i used to listen to play a lot lowkey from my little sister and grew to love them. As a young boy i never talked about it much because you know...stigma when it comes to boys listening to girl band music back then. I actually had my jaw on the floor because i forgot Faye was such a powerful singer and for so young. But this was such a great video to watch and all my childhood memories came flooding back. This is very well done!

fun fact faye left in the middle of the hard knock video so amanda lameche the older sister of anais filled in for her this is the girl in the grey hat this is also why you only see anna ansis and Rosanna Faye filmed some scenes but they are looped over and over again and through out the video only anna Rosanna and anais filmed together

I was so in love with PLAY. Obsessed. I would go on their website www.playcentral.com every single day waiting for new music and music videos since there was no social media back then, yet. Only AIM. My favorite song is Honey to the Bee/ 11 out of 10 and hopelessly devoted . Favorite member was Anna.

I'm a fan from the US who had their first two albums! Whole Again has been a favorite ever since! I want Anna to publish her memoir in English so I can read it. Anna was my favorite member probably because her dancing was the best.

I didn't know they had more than 2 songs. I'm the same age as them, I remember thinking they were so tall, I was like 5'5 at age 13, and they were like 5'9. The redhead had the vocal range of a grown woman at age 13, the dark haired one could sing pretty well too.

Then when you click on the year it'll reveal the full 12 month calendar...the blue dots represent available "snapshots" of the website as it was during that time. It really goes to show to me that Play was fully marketed to the US and had their Europe marketing scaled back massively. Otherwise they would’ve never given them material like ‘Whole Again’, which was one of the biggest songs Europe-wide in 2001, and ‘Honey to the B’, which was huge in the UK in 1998.
I remember Play (in the Netherlands, major music market at the time) only for ‘Us Against the World’, which was on heavy rotation on music channels, and ‘I Must Not Chase the Boys’, which received only some attention but had the benefit of being released in the early boom of consumer internet.

I’ve been listening to these groups lately, because I was born in 93 and I didn’t really get to listen to these groups growing up. I’ve been caught up with A*Teens lately (formerly Abba Teens), which I think is just even more of a interesting group and also Swedish.
Omg I love A*Teens they are actually back together for right now and Amit actually sent me a message when I messaged him when I was in the hospital after I overdosed first my sister messaged him telling him how much that I love him and told him about what I did and when I found out that he actually messaged my sister a few times I messaged him I was happy that he actually messaged me back that made my year even though I was going though a lot he is such a sweetheart I love him

The first mistake was to sign with Matthew Knowles, who ruined the career of three of the members of Destiny's Child and the career of promising girl group BLAQUE. Also, not you dragging my girls of Atomic Kitten when ms. Natasha Hamilton murdered that Whole Again song... they had to film the music video on a white screen because the prior single flopped, LMAO. And NO, they were not locals, Whole Again was #1 on 18 countries.
