You didn't realize it seems that the Honda HR-V come standard with paddles that you can use to get the extra torque to get up a hill and use it for lower to slow down for a stop and get down a hill with more control and not having to sit on your breaks!!
My home town, we are actually going to test drive one today, but I keep waiting for Honda to put the turbo in the hrv, so far the cx 30 is our choice, maybe the Kona too.
Well I am biased but I prefer the Crosstrek. People who complain that the Crosstrek is slow have not driven a CH-R, its noticeably slower than a Crosstrek. The AWD on the Subaru gives better road feel/handling too, even on a dry road. CH-R is a fine car, it feels taller than a Crosstrek for whatever that is worth to you, but I still prefer the Subaru.

At 6'4", my son says he wishes the driver's seat of his 2021 HR-V EX AWD would go back another two inches.
