    This has been an amazing series, its sooo funny that I've had problems trying to connect the neck to the torso for a couple years now and finally I found the solution to making it look more natural, definitely subbed and will be looking at more of your content. Thanks a bunch!!!

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks man! I'm glad it helped! Haha yeah laying out the bony landmark of the collarbone and then just connecting it straight up to the back of the ear I feel does wonders, very quick and easy way to get a decent result. I definitely am no anatomy expert though haha, that's the upper limit of my sculpting skill but it does the job!

      @@RussellMidfield Your approach is definitely effective! Also I didnt know shift r gave a more clearer idea of what the remesh is gonna look like so and thats another plus to get the job done. Also perhaps I didnt use enough polys to create the right amount of detail could also be my issue as well🤔 but its great to have found your channel😀

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RedninjaMultimediaProductions Yeah, Shift R is super handy now, your right, it gives a quick visual representation of what the remesh is going to be. Gone are the days of guessing and undoing four times to dial it in. Yeah it's all about finding that sweet spot of polys and what your scene can tolerate before your computer explodes.

    Would this be a good way to model the mouth if I wanted to be able to animate it later on with blend shapes? :) Thanks for the great videos!

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mmm, I would recommend modeling a slight opening in between the lips if you want to animate it. The way I've done it here is pretty limiting when it comes to animation. Thanks!

    What are the benefits of having a base mesh prepared, and how far can I adapt and adjust a particular base mesh for different body types? Like for example if I have a before and after of the same character where they gained or lost weight. Would I be better off making a new mesh for the fatter/skinnier version of the character?

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me the benefits are exactly that, you can adapt the base shape for anything. I made a "standard" male base mesh if you will like a year ago and have since adapted it into about 6 or 7 different other base meshes, female, skinny, bulky, dwarven, ultra muscular, etc. Once you have the modular base mesh setup you can push and pull and scale each component to make completely different characters. If you're making a large and small version of the same character I would use the same base mesh for both.

      @@RussellMidfield Cool, I'll keep that in mind! Thanks!

    Amazing stuff on this channel! One quick question: can the steps of the remesh be replaced with the union of the bool tools?

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Lisandro! Yeah you can use the union boolean function to join the objects together as well, is that what you mean?

    • @firelord52
      @firelord52 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RussellMidfield yes, that's it. I asked because maybe there are advantages or disadvantages to one method or the other. Maybe it creates problems on the mesh or non manifold problems

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm yeah that's a good question, I originally found myself using the boolean method, but a user in the comments section of one of my videos suggested the Ctrl+J and remesh method, as it is perhaps a little faster and doesn't result in the original geometry hanging around. I found that I like it a little more, and I typically haven't run into manifold issues too often since switching. On the remesh you'll get pretty gnarly holes throughout your geometry if you do have manifold issues though, so it's easy to spot I guess! I think both methods are totally valid!

    I don't understand why my Sculpt Mode shortcut keys for the tools don't work. Pressing M for Mask Tool does nothing, but the basics like Ctrl, shift, alt all work fine.

    • @RussellMidfield
      @RussellMidfield  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, you can check what your shortcuts are by going Edit -> Preferences -> Keymap -> 3D View -> Sculpt -> Sculpt (Global) and then scroll down to the Brush Select area. If you expand the Brush Select menu for the shortcut for M, you should see the brush that may be assigned to that button. I changed some of my shortcuts a long time ago, and it could be M is not the default for the Mask tool anymore. If you wanted M to be the shortcut for the Mask tool, you can just update the brush in this Brush Select area.

      @@RussellMidfield Thank you for the reply. I've got most of the shortcuts to work now, but realized that "Emulate NumPad" option overwrites some of the keys for the brushes :[
