    I agree with you about keeping John DeFilippo. I think he's good for the UFL. I could be wrong but to me it seemed like he struggled with the "XFL" rule changes a lot. That is something he will need to work on. But hey there are some positive things for the Memphis Showboats, first of all they will have the number 1 draft picks in each round. Also the owner of FEDEX is interested in becoming an owner of the Memphis Showboats.

      I feel like Flip deserves another shot and can help build that team.
      I keep hearing about the FedEx owner wanting in, but I think the UFL still has to create something he would want to buy.

    I think they should implement some sort of system where coaches pay is related to the previous season's performance. So have a base salary, and a bonus for making the playoffs, and an even bigger bonus for making the championship. That way the coaches who earned the money get it.

    • @johnlewissports
      @johnlewissports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Definitely should be some inventive laden contracts and maybe some of that stuff is in there, but coaches making 6 figures no matter what is insane for a fledgling league. Love that idea!

    I know coach Becht seems pretty invested, but do you think UFL ownership might be reconsidering his position with how big of a market STL is and how he really hasn't been able to get the team over the hump and win the big games? I know AJ was hurt down the stretch and in the XFL championship game, but I feel like the talent on the team kind of carried them a bit throughout the year and that their coaching staff really got exposed in the championship game, especially offensively. They also had major problems offensively getting key players the ball (Ateman and Peezy). I like Becht, but wonder if a change at the position is maybe what's needed to get them over that hump and start winning the big games.

    • @johnlewissports
      @johnlewissports  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Diehard fans would probably have more insight, but it seems to me there would be a huge pushback if the franchise got sold and Becht wasn't part of it at the time.
      You make some excellent points: it seems in two seasons, they've been right there but couldn't win the big one. I'm chalking last year more up to AJ being hurt and some curious calls by Gradkowski.

    As a Battlehawks fan I want to see Becht return. He's still the least experienced head coach in this league with only however many games the AAF lasted of being a TE coach. There is room for growth, though I think Reid is right that perhaps some evaluation needs to happen. But I believe it will, he did still improve this year after all with a playoff berth despite one less ga.e with AJ than 2023.
    As for the rest of the league, they can come back but except for Johnson/DiFillipo. Stoops needs a change at DC. DC fans want Barlow to go I know but there's no way the league cuts ties, better that they get a new QB than HC.

    • @johnlewissports
      @johnlewissports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It certainly feels like Becht is invested and poised to return. I do wonder if the Battlehawks might opt for a new OC.

      Who are these DC fans who want Barlow to go? I'm a Defenders fan, I want the whole coaching staff to return for 2025.
      Only coach I would get rid of is CJ Johnson. Bring the rest back if they want to return.

      I grade all of the coaches on a curve, honestly. Last offseason was disrupted by the merger, so none of the teams had a normal, routine offseason.
      Under the circumstances, I think all of the coaches should be proud of their efforts.
      I just hope the UFL isn't scared to pay a little more to retain their coaches. We'll see!

      @@JamesENichols Agreed. The rush of the merger caused so many things league-wide to be less-than-optimal.

    If and when expansion comes the Roughnecks needs to put into the XFL division. They are an XFL team, not a USFL team. No one is buying into them as a USFL team.

    Defilippo was my guy on the Eagles and with the Breakers however He's Emotionally a bit unraveled and cuddles his players too much. He's gotta pull that back some and be less bothered and over appreciative of good plays. Wonder why they just didn't transfer that Whole Breakers team to Memphis. Miss the Breakers over that imposter Showboats brand.

    I still don't understand why the league would tinker and destroy such an iconic brand, like the Roughnecks starting all the way back from XFL 2020. For the Rock to even change that brand and for then the UFL to again damage that brand with a different roster should have never crossed the Gamblers with the Roughnecks they should have scratched the Vipers all together like the Wildcats and transferred the Gamblers to Las Vegas kept them with the USFL Conference. This league is just destroying and sabotaging their own success. You need teams that are good to stay consistent, so God bless the Birmingham Stallions.
    UFL year one should have been a full merger since now we see cutting 8 teams really didn't boost anything and kept all the teams and just worked through the hard parts. Retracting damaged fan/league relations and that's why attendance was low.
    Just imagine the turn out if they kept all 16 teams. Found homes for the hub teams. I think Fans would have respected that as a power move but cutting 8 teams made them look scared and uncommitted to their own mission. They should have Went all In on themselves. Since they didn't go all in, the Fans didn't go all in.
    They need a public figure how has some juice to really gather attention. Dwayne cares too much about being liked. He cares too much about approval.
    UFL needs smart bad assed leadership. Vince McMahon was perfect. Everyone Respected XFL 2020.
    This league needs that type of presence.

    • @johnlewissports
      @johnlewissports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      16 teams would have been too much. Look at the rollout of just 8 teams. Learn the lessons on a smaller base then build from that.
      And keep Vince McMahon away from anything of value.

    John, before I listen to all 30 minutes of your podcast, I've got a question for you .
    How would MY Stallions do playing against CFL teams . And you may want to couch your answer as to which rules we use American or Canadian. I asked your pal Reid Johnson, he was somewhat evasive.
    Of course no one knows for sure , but, that's what we do in the deep south on hot summer days. 😅😅😅 Now , on to your podcast.

      @@gregorycrawford5105 That's a lot of levels of football and a lot of teams! I don't think there's any UFL team (at least in 2024) that would beat any NFL team, but I would certainly take the Stallions over a lot of college football teams if I had to bet.

You seriously think any of those teams could beat those grown men playing for the Stallions? I don't think so .
      Heck , with that defense the Stallions have I'd be hard pressed to see any of them being able to score .
      Not bragging but I seriously think the Stallions are the 33rd best football team on this planet. At our current projection we may be able to Crack the top 30 in 3 to 4 more years. Hey just saying.
