  • This is a cedar treasure chest full of locks (and candy) from M.L. in California. I picked the box open and found a great little collection of padlocks for future videos, as well as the challenge lock on the box itself. THANK YOU!

    For those curious about the key inside matching the American lock, it doesn't. It was just a key I had laying around that fit did the job of a latch.

      Great job Jeff, and some really cool locks inside. I've already videoed the Hurd and WB - both have weirdness to them that we don't usually see in padlocks. I'll post them later this week or early next week. Thanks again for the great box!

      Jeff Fischer is the lid able to open so bill doesn't have to be concerned about the contents again?

    • @jefffischer9322
      @jefffischer9322 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So when i had it locking in a way that sealed it tight the lid piece pulled up on the tail piece , applying tension from behind. It made it really, really hard to pick , and yes i considered leaving it but it felt like a cheat way to make a lock super hard. So i guess the answer is , no?

      Jeff Fischer I'm not an expert on BosnianBill challenge lock rules, but that would've been both evil and acceptable to me as long as the key turned

    I got all those locks (and the box) for next to nothing from estate sales, not garage sales, estate sales. The difference is getting to rummage through a garage that goes back sometimes 70 years. They never want more than a couple dollars for as many locks and doorknobs as you can find (not the attached to the house knobs)
    Also you will find ALL the files and bread knives you will ever need, again only dollars. Happy hunting all!

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You estate sales are different than the ones around here. Around here, they call garage sales "estate sales" to add an element of class to a used clothing sale.

    • @jefffischer9322
      @jefffischer9322 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bosnianbill Since I do estate sales for a living I thought I'd look in your (P.O. box) area for some estate liquidation companies. A map search reveals quite a few and found this one to have the kind of sale I'm familiar with. www.executorllc.com/
      And it's happening today and tomorrow, though the tools will be gone you may still find old locks and a door knob or 2. This one also had some guns! But they're gone by now also. This sale would have a good amount of stuff to help a lock guy out even if there aren't any locks and after a few you could amass a good collection.

    Is that the first time you've ever used "Master" and "hard to pick" in the same sentence?

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Probably is! But seeing as how those locks are over 70 years old, it was probably the last time...😀

    When I was in the Seabees I saw some locks like the Navy locks. They were used, amoung other applications, to lock up our large wood tool chests when we deployed. People wanted the knives from those chests. Electricians knives and stock knives made by Schrade. In my years in the Bees I saw one tool chest that still contained the knife.

    • @bosnianbill

    kind of sad, after my father passed away we cleaned up his garage and he had a crown royal bag of keys all for the older master locks like the 66 and 77 unfortunately all the locks themselves are long gone/lost.. brings back memories seeing those locks and how many my father had back in those days..

    The key holding the box closed could be the key for the american 7200 yes? i just find it odd that it would have been unrelated to the contents of the box. I recently lost my sparrow kit and locks to a house fire, your videos keep me sane! keep up the good work!

    If you have an electric pick gun, I would like to see it being used.
    I know these locks are ment for fun and SPP but it would be really cool to see if those nasty pins prevent a lockpick gun from opening a lock in seconds.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Believe me, if an electropick worked on locks like these (or bump keys, or snappers, etc) I'd be using them regularly. Unfortunately EPGs don't work when the security pins, threaded chambers, undercut chambers, multi-part pins, and super springs are installed. They work great on standard pins, but good luck with them on security pins.

    • @I_leave_mean_comments
      @I_leave_mean_comments 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've never seen the appeal of electric picks guns, or the manual trigger ones that are still around. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but they've always worked about as well as just raking for me.

    I did check my audio settings (since I use something to raise treble and reduce bass, so that I can listen at lower volume levels, while the sound doesn't travel as far away) and I set them to default, but that high pitched rattling sound still persists. I was trying to make a sound file of just the rattling, but for some reason, when I try to edit audio files, (no matter what program I use) ALL functions are lagging (including the most basic, before/after pressing Play) for several sections for each action I do, making it impractical. I've never had this issue before, so I don't know what's going on. However, you have the only videos on the internet that I watch, that have this high pitched rattle sound audio issue, so it has to be something in your videos. If it isn't your audio settings, then it could be that your microphone is blown and causing distortion.

    • @K1Locks
      @K1Locks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay H I hear it too. Do not fret my friend. I believe it to be something in Bill’s signal chain. Perhaps the mic pre he’s using or maybe and EQ setting. I wish it would go away too.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jay H & K1 Locks. Fellas, I hear you but, unfortunately, I cannot hear or SEE any anomalies on the sound file. I have gone to extraordinary and very expensive efforts to track this down (and will do a video showing the upgrades). The fact remains that only the two of you seem to hear these sounds - and they are not well defined. Depending on who is talking it is alternately described as a "high pitched rattling sound" or a "clicking" sound? At what point? Please give me an exact time hack in the video so I can look closer at it. The LockLab now resembles a sound booth at a radio station...complete with acoustic tiling.

    • @dsloop3907
      @dsloop3907 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sound can be heard most readily @4:00 - 5:00, 8:30--9:30 as you speak. Very high pitched scratching/rattling sound from my right hand speaker that only happens when you speak, and not all the time even then. It's like the pitch/tone/timbre of your voice is causing it as you say certain words. It is NOT the wrapping material on the locks.
      As the other guys said this is the only youtube channel I can hear it on, all the others do not have this quirk.
      I am using a Toshiba laptop that has Harman Kardon speakers. Have you tried listening for the reported sounds on a different computer, instead of your recording gear or smartphone?

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just reviewed the raw audio file and compared it to the upload. They are identical. Between 04:00 - 05:00 there are three spikes, each coinciding with handling of the packing material. Aside from that, nothing. I also looked between 08:30 - 09:30 but find nothing that would cause the sound you describe. It is odd you are only getting it from only your right speaker because I record in mono onto both channels. Right and Left are identical. Yes, I listen on high-end headphones to preview the audio. Again, I hear nothing other than the crackling of the packing material.

    • @dsloop3907
      @dsloop3907 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps the nice headphones filter the noise out, while lesser speakers reproduce it.
