Many thanks for the video. I would like to remove the front headliner panel on my 1986 325e so I can install wire for a bluetooth mic. I was wondering how you tucked the roof fabric neatly back in place after pulling out part of the door weatherstripping. I experimented with pulling out a small piece of door weatherstripping, next to the front headliner, but I found that when I tried to put the weatherstripping back, I couldn't get the roof fabric all the way back in, the way it should be.
Where are you located, I wish I had a local e30 guy with as much patience and knowledge as you here in Miami, my sunroof is starting to rust and I wanna do a major overhaul and crank/cassette adjustment but am scared to do it myself especially with the headliner and panel removal
Thank you Raymond - very comprehensive. I now have to confidence to take on replacing the left and right cables and gates. ‘89 E30 owner

I got the Chinese one, it’s really tight I can’t push the nubbin thru , I’m worried I’m going to break it / any ideas other than push harder ?
I had the same issue. I used small metal files (round and square) to grind the hole in the crank wide enough for the nub.
Do you have a link to where you got the replacement crank by any chance?
The inexpensive ones are avail on eBay. Online auto parts vendors.
What exactly was wrong with the crank?
Retail for 65$... today a original from bmw is 250$
